SUNDAY, December 21st

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Dec 21, 2025 5:15 am

Happy Sunday morning!

We're 40* this morning with rain expected this afternoon. Imagine that! Rain!

LYN - How is Garry's level of consciousness? Activity? Awareness? We love our families and love to have them come to visit, but sometimes the sounds of silence are to be savored. I hope you find Garry's eggnog. If you can't find a small bottle, take a quart - most care facilities have a fridge and can keep it. You - or the staff - can give him a glass a day. Don't forget the nutmeg! If you need a break I think Laura's Library in Bee Cave - you know the place! - is having a one woman quilt exhibit ( All the quilts I've made for Autumn and Amara :D ) going on right now. I would call and make sure if you thought of making the trek, but if you do, my daughter has a hug waiting with your name on it. Do you still talk to Velda much? If so, please tell her I have all the beautiful things out that she made me as my Secret Santa one year and we're enjoying them.

MARY Q - NOW is all your holiday shopping done? I think ours is done except on Christmas Eve we - I've been using the royal "we" a lot lately - probably Bill needs to go to the store for a hostess gift for Susie - I'm thinking some paper whites or maybe a bouquet of tulips - something springy. Has your family decided what everybody is doing for Eve and Day yet? I've been keeping some frozen appetizers in the freezer for surprise invitations/company. Or a bottle or two of wine works, too. Saves last min run to the store. Did you sew anything yesterday?

VAL - The longer you wait to do something with your hip the worse it's going to be. Nothing is fun but none of it is as bad as doing nothing. Acupuncture helped minimally and temporarily. Drugs help but don't fix. Chiropractic - same. Cortisone shot helps the most, but again, IF it works it's also temporary. The longer you wait you risk compensatory pain to your other hip and your back, and possibly altering your gait. Our friend, Tex, waited so long to get his knee replaced that he permanently damaged his ankle and now has to wear a brace 24/7. And then there's insurance. If your insurance now is through your DH's work, isn't he retiring in another year or two? Just some things to think about. Not trying to talk you into or out of anything.

JANA - happy heavenly birthday to your personal Santa. And aren't those Art to Heart stockings & tree the same ones Lois made a year or two ago? I have the patterns, too, and every year plan to make them. I do have good intentions though!

JUDI - you sound very prepared. In fact, everyone I know, here and here, seems every prepared this year. Even me! Time to relax and enjoy your pretty applique-ing.

LOIS - sorry your foot is bothering you again. I can see why, if you are up for long, it would begin to swell again. And swelling is painful. Did they ever say what is actually wrong with your foot? I've forgotten.

Yesterday was a big day here! After my shower, Bill helped me upstairs and I worked on my CW's. I sat at my machine and sewed some of my finished sections together, pressed them, and hand stitched more colored windows over the seams. I played for about 5 hours upstairs!! My friend, Carol (born day after Christmas, hence her name) came by for a tea/cookies visit and brought me a beautiful Christmas themed planter. After she left, I decided to come back downstairs. The last 6 steps I tried using a cane instead of Bill's hand and I made it! He walked backward, in front of me just in case. Every day - small victories! We had Marie Callendar's chicken pot pies and salad for supper. Turns out my hubby is a top notch salad maker! I told him from now on he's in charge of salads. We'll discuss tonite's supper after we get some coffee, which he is serving up now. He's a jewel.

Today is the shortest day of the year. They are calling are calling it The Big Dark. Tomorrow - more daylight! Yay!

Good foggy morning here.
To the both MARYS--thank you for posting my pic. It was fun to make.
Every time I write a long post it goes POOF and goes to never- never land.
The holidays for some of us are a dark place with family members health issues. I hope you can realize that you are never alone. Your sisters here on this site stand behind and besides you in prayer with gentle hugs!
Diane

Good morning!

Another gray day with some kind of wetness. Which you get, depends on your altitude. We're on the in between, so may be rain, maybe snow.

Today church is short. Just our Sacrament meeting. Lots of music, short talks! My friend is the choir director, so she's doing most of it. Me, I'll just do the opening and the Sacrament hymns. And then sit in the pews. Normally I sit next to the organ in the choir seats.

So not much else. For fun, we took a ride on a new road that just was completed. This road is being built in segments and soon will connect to a major interstate and skip all the SLC traffic. There is already a freeway that goes around the slc mess and now this new one, here on the west side of the valley, where I live. Getting around this valley takes a lot of patience! Utah drivers are the worst! So glad I learned to drive in California!

Do fun stuff!

Hugs,
Jana

I woke up this morning and started making my mental list of phone calls. I read the Bible verse that comes up on my phone then look here and found it's Sunday. Those calls are for tomorrow.

MaryZ, No activity, he's aware of where he is. The longest I have seen him awake was after eating lunch one day and the TV was on and he watched a show he likes. From what I see and what staff sees, he's maybe awake 2 - 3 hours total in a day.

MaryZ, It's good to hear that you're getting around and up and down. I just might visit the library. Carol and I could use an outing. It's been several months since I talked with Velda. I should call and will pass on your message.

Flo, I'm happy for you that things are smoothing out with DIL.

Velvet, I'm sorry you're having posting troubles. Maybe post a paragraph at a time. Then we'll get to see you lots. I, for one, appreciate your comment. Please keep sending the prayers and hugs. Your Nativity quilt is Lovely.

Judi, I have become disappointed in Hallmark. I am watching the Great American Family Channel, GFAM. Candace what's her name that used to be on Hallmark helped start GFAM. It's more Christian based. Several of the actors left Hallmark, who didn't like the spin they were adding to every movie, and are at GFAM.

Chriss, I have tried to go back and read your posts, but haven't found, what happened to your Dad's leg? Maddox Elf is leaning against the TV sound bar, keeping an eye on me.

MaryQ, A heater in your garage is a good idea.

Hello to everyone else. I better get moving. I think I will help Garry with lunch and spend the afternoon. Then get back to Minnie. I have the little Christmas tree out that I have used in the MH. I will put it on a table between a bookshelf and the fireplace console that sits under the TV.

Hope everyone has a Blest day.

Good Morning Girls

Ok, so I slept a little again,.... but what the heck... why not! I still have a nice full day ahead of me with no real places to go or things to do so I can just enjoy it!

Maryz,,, Yes... I think I am DONE shopping! As long as I have stuff for the kids, I'm not really too worried about any body else! Shawn and Kris's plan for Christmas is no plan at all. She's going to make food and who over shows up.... shows up! I should have made a plan of my own. I'd have invited everybody over here, but my house probably can't hold the 12 people I'd love to have all together. In my heart, I would just love to have my grandkids together to give them gifts and to heck with the adults. I bet it felt so good to be up stairs and in the sewing room and kitchen again!!! Your downstairs is such a cozy place, but the sewing room is where the magic happens right?

Diane... You said it perfectly---you are not alone. All throughout my day I think of everyone here and send thoughts and prayers, especially in difficult times but truly every day. Y'all don't know how often I "brag" about my "quilting buddies"!

Judi.... I think in my whole life I've only watched one Hallmark movie. I kind of kid that they are so sweet they make my teeth hurt!  I always have TV while I sew and think that I have watch every episode of NCIS about 10 times, every episode of JAG (remember that one!) and every episode of Stargate SG-1 (only because Richard Dean Anderson is so cute and he's from Minnesota) That's my criteria for a good TV show---if the guy--main character--is cute! Congratulations to all your hockey players!! I'm waiting for my Nolan to have a game at the hockey rink near my house so I can go watch him play!

Flo.... Glad to hear things are improving with DDIL. How fun to have total chaotic birthday party for DGD, I bet she loved it! Gotta love a man with dishpan hands--Lots of thanks to Joe for cleaning up.

Jana.... Have you ever driven through Iowa? Now those are the worst! Idiots On Wheels Ahead! But I have to say, I've seen some pretty scary drivers in Minnesota that don't realize that a red light means you should stop! Man they zoom right through them. Little Enoch is still safely tucked inside? Zion doing better? Was he able to go home?

Lyn... You and Garry are most definitely on the top of my "thoughts and prayers" list.

Chriss... I know you are out there somewhere?

Well, I suppose I should get in gear. Kevin just called to remind me that Nolan is singing in the boys choir he used to sing in this afternoon at the church right up the street from me. He was out choir for a little while until his voice finished changing. I'm anxious to hear him sing in his deep voice!

Need to do a little shine up in the kitchen, which will require more coffee!

Wishing you all the wonderful Sunday

Maryq - shared your Iowa driver definition with Mr G. He had a good laugh! You see, in this house, there has been a phrase for many many year, that Mr G has used. It's Go back to Iowa, when there was a bad driver or to much traffic on the roads. Yours fit perfectly!

I have to add my 2 cents on Iowa, since I was born there. The definition used by our friends is,
Idiots Out Wandering About
