We're 40* this morning with rain expected this afternoon. Imagine that! Rain!
LYN - How is Garry's level of consciousness? Activity? Awareness? We love our families and love to have them come to visit, but sometimes the sounds of silence are to be savored. I hope you find Garry's eggnog. If you can't find a small bottle, take a quart - most care facilities have a fridge and can keep it. You - or the staff - can give him a glass a day. Don't forget the nutmeg! If you need a break I think Laura's Library in Bee Cave - you know the place! - is having a one woman quilt exhibit ( All the quilts I've made for Autumn and Amara
MARY Q - NOW is all your holiday shopping done? I think ours is done except on Christmas Eve we - I've been using the royal "we" a lot lately - probably Bill needs to go to the store for a hostess gift for Susie - I'm thinking some paper whites or maybe a bouquet of tulips - something springy. Has your family decided what everybody is doing for Eve and Day yet? I've been keeping some frozen appetizers in the freezer for surprise invitations/company. Or a bottle or two of wine works, too. Saves last min run to the store. Did you sew anything yesterday?
VAL - The longer you wait to do something with your hip the worse it's going to be. Nothing is fun but none of it is as bad as doing nothing. Acupuncture helped minimally and temporarily. Drugs help but don't fix. Chiropractic - same. Cortisone shot helps the most, but again, IF it works it's also temporary. The longer you wait you risk compensatory pain to your other hip and your back, and possibly altering your gait. Our friend, Tex, waited so long to get his knee replaced that he permanently damaged his ankle and now has to wear a brace 24/7. And then there's insurance. If your insurance now is through your DH's work, isn't he retiring in another year or two? Just some things to think about. Not trying to talk you into or out of anything.
JANA - happy heavenly birthday to your personal Santa. And aren't those Art to Heart stockings & tree the same ones Lois made a year or two ago? I have the patterns, too, and every year plan to make them. I do have good intentions though!
JUDI - you sound very prepared. In fact, everyone I know, here and here, seems every prepared this year. Even me! Time to relax and enjoy your pretty applique-ing.
LOIS - sorry your foot is bothering you again. I can see why, if you are up for long, it would begin to swell again. And swelling is painful. Did they ever say what is actually wrong with your foot? I've forgotten.
Yesterday was a big day here! After my shower, Bill helped me upstairs and I worked on my CW's. I sat at my machine and sewed some of my finished sections together, pressed them, and hand stitched more colored windows over the seams. I played for about 5 hours upstairs!! My friend, Carol (born day after Christmas, hence her name) came by for a tea/cookies visit and brought me a beautiful Christmas themed planter. After she left, I decided to come back downstairs. The last 6 steps I tried using a cane instead of Bill's hand and I made it! He walked backward, in front of me just in case. Every day - small victories! We had Marie Callendar's chicken pot pies and salad for supper. Turns out my hubby is a top notch salad maker! I told him from now on he's in charge of salads. We'll discuss tonite's supper after we get some coffee, which he is serving up now. He's a jewel.
Today is the shortest day of the year. They are calling are calling it The Big Dark. Tomorrow - more daylight! Yay!
