SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Feb 20, 2023 6:57 am

Good morning,

We are in for a wet and windy day. Of all weather extremes I hate wind the most. And Bill will be gone to Oregon for at least 3 days, probably 4. If we lose power, that's OK. I can build fires, cook on the wood stove, fill bathtubs for flushing, and open wine. But it's just nicer to have him here.

I have 5 quilts in the QQ and they now all have backings pieced and are ready to go - whenever "go" happens. Three have bindings made and the other two will have bindings made from leftover backing so they have to wait until after quilting. I started a tote in Mickey Mouse fabrics for my younger sis's birthday but now have to set that aside until my fusible fleece arrives. I only had half what I needed. I'm also looking at my shirt patterns for Christmas gifts for my grandsons. I haven't made shirts in probably 25 years. I used to be quite good at garment sewing, but my skills are rusty. Crossing fingers here!

While Bill is gone I plan to give the whole house a good thorough cleaning, go shopping for a few new clothes, and maybe hit Joann's for new shirt patterns. I'll keep myself busy, for sure. I always do. :D

VELDA - your fabrics you've found so far are great! All my favorite colors! Yes, Autumn is still working full time. And also going to school, working on an MBA. She already has an MLIS but needs the MBA for the new position she will be taking next year when her boss retires. She is exhausted all the time. The baby is a girl and they may have already decided on her name, but they aren't telling yet.

CAROL - your quilts are awesome! Congratulations on all that hard work and such beautiful results! I can't believe you did all that intricate quilting yourself! You said you had a Handi-quilter. How long is your frame? No baby shower yet that I know of. I've asked Antonio if he knew of any being planned but he never answered me. There is no one here but me for a shower, but I suspect her staff will hold one for her. I have gifts all ready to go - soft baby cowboy boots, a cute little outfit, and I plan to order diapers and have them delivered to her. LOTS of diapers!

LORI - wow! That's a lot of sewing in just a couple days! Glad you've found your sew-jo again!

BECCA - glad the shower was fun and they got so many needed things. Babies can really go through stuff! I know you're going back to your house today - a 3 hr drive if I remember correctly. Part of me is going with you. 💗

Last night was baked chicken. I made a side dish of rice and broccoli - sort of a 'divan' dish. I didn't follow any recipe but just tossed in some uncooked rice, broccoli florets, mushroom soup, mushrooms, leftover cheese sauce, diced onion, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, some milk, some water, and S&P. And it turned out and Bill loved it!! :o lol! Something I can probably never recreate. So leftover chicken and rice will be my supper tonite. Bill will probably have a hamburger somewhere in Portland.

What are you having tonite?

Good Morning! Happy President's Day!

Maryz - Thank you for the compliments. I have a HandiQuilter Sweet 16 which is a stationery sit down machine with no frame. I move fabric rather than the machine. I really looked forward to the weekend and showing the quilts but am now very happy to have them home with me. Safe travels for Bill in the next few days. We too are expecting a storm this week and it is cold, so you are probably seeing it first. If I had a few days to myself, I would clean house too. Funny how we are about being alone.

Becca - Safe travels to you too as you go back to your house. My prayers are with you. This is a difficult time for you.

Meanwhile the weather today is expected to be beautiful. I intend to take it easy, go for a lovely walk and sew. Dinner tonight will be chicken. (Maryz your recipe sounds very good maybe I will try it.)

Good morning everyone!
I've been coming on and reading past days trying to get caught up but then I get distracted and don't get back and there goes another day or 2. So I decided today that I'll just post and then try getting caught up reading past days later.
Mary, I hope you don't lose electricity. I can get along without Frankie for a few days too but I'm like you, I prefer him here. Are you going to be quilting any of the quilts in the QQ while he's away or are they for him to quilt?
I made the California chicken club ring last night for supper and when Jazmyne found out she was asking to come over for supper and stay the night LOL she loves it and it has kale in it LOL
Carol, your quilts are gorgeous!
Velda, love your group and what you all do ❤
Lori, I'm glad you got your sew mojo back.
Becca, I'm so glad you're back with us ❤
Jana and you all, I'll have to go read and see what you've all been up to.
I'm doing better, still use a walker but mostly so I don't limp so bad it helps me walk smoother, the limping makes my hip and sciatic nerve kill me.
We have pork roast with all the fixings and the chicken club ring leftovers so I'm thinking supper tonight will be leftovers.

Hi everyone! For supper, we still have sausage gravy left. The never ending pot. LOL.
I think I will have it on toast tonight instead of heavy biscuits. I am in the mood for a lettuce salad, too.
I have been piecing batting like crazy. I hate when I get it puckered. One of them, I clipped into the pucker and then restitched it down to help it lay a bit flatter. I ended up with 8 in the 60x80" size we need. That saves us money, as we have to order the batting with donated and funds given to the group through the church budget.
I think the lady who donated all these scraps is the one who is quilting my quilt. Some people must just pay her and have her furnish the batting. Pieces were very long. Some were like 20" wide and 80" long. Anyway, very nice of her to donate all that.
Guess I will start another quilt top after I get back from quilting tomorrow. I have fabric washed and sorted by colors. Just need to cut strips.
That's all I know for today.
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good almost dinnertime!

We'll have baked chicken and artichokes. Artichokes are a Karlie favorite! My chicken is a bread crumb, garlic parm coating, not too heavy and baked.

I got my talk on the computer from my hand written paper. Need to add a bit more time, I'm about 2 minutes short, so I need to expand a little. I can do that. Timing our talks is a Michael thing. They don't want us to run over, but we could, but Michael is a retired railroad man and the train runs on schedule, period! LOL!

I sewed more stars today. Only have seven or so more FQ's to cut up and then sew. Then I'll count and see how many more stars needed and then go back to previous FQ's for what I want.

Kate is hanging in at fire camp. It's down right tough! She's dragging each night, and still has book work to do at home.

Well, time to prep dinner,

Hugs,
Jana

Jana, that's funny about stick to the schedule.

Vel, I use the fusible strip the binds the batting pieces together.

Tina, good to see you post. Glad you leg is getting better.

Carol, I bet you are tired today. Quilt shows are a lot of work to put together.

Mary, hope Bill's travels are uneventful.

I've been working on a cute little Bee quilt and realized that I sewed the wings wrong. So I'm unsewing them and fixing my mistake. I caught it after I but 2 Bee's together. I think I've done more unsewing with this pattern than sewing. I guess I should pay better attention to the instructions.

Dinner was cereal

Sleep well.
