I am new and I tried to sew two triangles together
Hi,
I am really new to quilting and I cut out a couple squares and then made two triangle things and then tried to put two triangles together with another two and they keep looking weird like not lined up. I am not sure how to do it right.
Thanks for your help in advance

They are called half square triagles, online they are called HST's. So, you put 2 squares RST(right sides together), drew a line from corner to corner, stitched a 1/4" FROM the line on each side of the line. OK, when you piece them, they will look wonky because you have a built in 1/4" seam allowance. When you finish, you will have nice points. If you cut them, when you finish piecing your block, your points will be blunted. What block are you making? When working with HST's, make sure you have a perfect quarter inch, it's super important.
I used to make mine the way you are, now I use the WonderCut ruler, it's awesome! You just sew 2 strips together and cut-that's it!
Keep going on your HST's, they will look fine when you finish, just keep a good 1/4". Amie

Hi Kathy. Amie gave you some good advice.
Since you are new, you might want to go to this website and just look it over. It has a lot of free patterns and useful advice/hints.

Thank you so much for the advice. I am trying to make a Dove in the Window thing. I have just started quilting in the last 6 months mostly getting all the stuff I need and I just love all the fabric and designs. I have sewn my own clothes and made crafts for years and it never occured to me to try quilting. This truly is a passion.
