problem with flannel backing

Post by sewzsum »

I've pinned and repinned again and when I sew a straight line from one end of my quilt to the other end, the flannel backing is puckered badly. What am I doing wrong? Or is there some adjustment to the machine I need to make? Thanks.

Are you using a walking foot? Maybe lessen the pressure on your feed-dogs...

Maybe Maryz will see this and can help. She uses flannel backings on a lot of her quilts.

Always sew from middle towards edge. So on a diagonal line, you would do each line in 2 pieces. This way you work puckers towards outer edges. Also are you pin basting it enough? i would use a basting spray.

put the flannel on the bottom. The feed dogs should "gather" it in. Like when you use a bias piece. It may stretch on the top, but the feed dogs will handle it.
