Looking for fabric or other ideas

Post by morgans4 »

I'd love to make a "life" quilt for my daughter for Christmas. One thing I want in it for sure is a raccoon. Either in the fabric or maybe a patch. My daughter is an animal whisperer. She can get wild animals to come to her. It's scary.
This past spring we had a little bandit get into our backyard and "treed" by our dogs. It stayed there for days although we bring the dogs in at night and it could have left at any time. IF it ever came down for food or water (that we left at the bottom of the tree) it did it during the night and returned to the tree. Maybe it was waiting for its mother to return, which it evidently did several nights later.
In the meantime, my daughter climbed the tree, much to my horror, and talked to it. It came down to her level and turned so she could scratch his back! It really smiled and closed its eyes while she did it. When she stopped, it would turn and look at her and purr so she would do it again. It was the cutest thing I've ever seen.
So, in this quilt, I would really like to have something to represent that memory.
I'm having trouble finding any fabric though, and thought that perhaps someone has seen some somewhere that might be appropriate.
Or any other ideas... pieced or paper-pieced raccoons... any of your ideas would be most appreciated.

I put raccoon fabric into search and all kinds of things popped up. This one has dozens of diff fabrics with raccoons on them. Check it out. Good luck. Sounds like a cute quilt and a wonderful DD too.

God bless you both as you quilt. Hugs, Shirley Mae

ps where abouts do you live in KCMO? Send me a pm with area, don't need the address exact. We are moving to KCMO area as soon as our house here is sold. We are just renting but have a lease until it is sold. Our son lives in Warrensburg. Maybe we can meet after I get there.

There is a pattern - or group of patterns in one packet - called Small Forest Critters designed by Debora Konchinsksy. I just Googled it and there is one on e-Bay for $12.95. It has 2 different raccons as well as chipmunk, squirrel, rabbit, 2 beavers, 2 opossums, and a fox. They are raw edge applique and batiks work well for them along with some accent stitching.
