Problems with a Quick trip quarter quilt using 24 quarters

Post by MissMolly »

I'm new and tried to make the Quick Trip quarter quilt. Sewed into strips and then tubes then cut. Then sewed agan but it seems that the one side isn't straight like the other it kinds curves and another thing - what did I do wrong? Could it be something stretched when I sewed? When I cut the strips & sewed together the bottom of the quilt top seems to be off too. Do I square this up also.
Please help - I'm frustrated but want to quilt...

HI, I live near Binghamton Ny so not to far from you. I am not sure what you are trying to do but it sounds like the strips were all sewn in the same direction. When sewing many strips together you should reverse the direction each time to avoid the curve in the fabric. Maybe if you went to the local quilt shop and asked you question someone there coulc help you. good luck and keep on quilting

Mic-pa Hi Neighbor:
Thanks for the information. I will remember it next time.
I'll check with the quilt shop to see what I can do to fix.
I am hooked now - got 5 grandchildren I want to make quilts for.
I guess I jumped in should have started smaller.

Thanks again.

hi, i think what you have done is a classic mistake which makes a piece 'bow' like a banana...

when you get to the end of sewing 2 stips together, add your next piece and this time sew from the bottom up...
then add your next piece and sew down from the top, just keep going like this.

never sew from the top down all the time... as you get a 'banana' every time lol...
as yummy as they are!!

good luck!! xxxxxx jacquie xxxxxx

My problem was that when I cut off at the seam..this took 1/4 from each of the squares, and then when I laid them out..the strip was shorter cause first that 1/2 cut off, and then another 1/2 of new seam allowance. I solved this buy just using the seam ripper and taking the seam out, instead of cutting it(and the allowance) off. Problem fixed.
