HELP, PLEASE

Post by quiltingangel »

Ladies, I really am hoping someone can help me. I made a very nice friendship braid quilt for my grand-daughter using all bright colors. Bordering with a bright red fabric (which I did not prewash). It is now at the quilters. Yesterday I took a scrap of it and washed it and it bled. Is ther anything I can do to keep this from bleeding. I will need to wash it as she is going to use it for the baby. Thank you for any help/ideas. Will not make that mistake again.

There is a product out there that is called - Color Catchers - it will catch the red as it bleeds and will not let it get on the rest of the fabrics - it goes in with the wash when you launder it. They do work -

Hope that this saves the quilt -
They are made by Shout.

Yes - Shout color catchers. I used them on some coats that had been discarded from a local feed store because they had been splattered with pond dye - very potent. I used double the amount of color catcher sheets and they absorbed all of the pond dye and the coats were good to go.

Add me to the list of Color Catcher fans! These are AWESOME! And, like Karlene, I'd use at least 3 or 4 sheets when you wash the quilt. They absolutely work!!!

Ladies, thank you all so much. Do you have to use them every time you wash the quilt?

I would - I still have reds that love to run even after many washings - just to be on the safe side!

Needing help. My 16 year old niece wants a quilt with zebra print and bright pink! Any suggestions on a pattern that is easy enough for me and for her to help me with. I have limited experience with quilting! And these colors are very new for me also.

Ladies, I am definitely a color catcher fan. Washed the quilt with the color catchers and nothing ran. Thank you all for these suggestions. My precious little great-grand-daughter, Kaylee, arrived on October 18th.
