Stencils

Post by SuesQuilts »

Does anyone know of a how to video on how to make templates out of plastic? I have the plastic but I'm thinking if you use a exacto knife how do you mark it after you are finished cutting since the cut is only as thick as the blade would be. Does this make any sence? lol

Will the blade not cut all the way thru the plastic? You can buy plastic or whatever it is made of that you can cut with scissors.

if you google how to make a stencil you will probably come up with some answers.

can you xacto knife score the stencil on both sides before cutting all the way through? or can you use a jug saw??

how thick is the plastic you are using...

I have cut my own stencils before using an Exacto knife - you just have to make two passes to widen the area. Remember to leave small areas that are uncut to hold the stencil together.

Also they have out on the market a stencil cutter - it burns/melts the plastic so you have a opening. They work very well. There are different width tips that you can put on the tool.

Another hint - using the knife is to use a straight edge to guide your cuts. You will have to free hand the curves - but go slow and work in a small area at a time

Good Luck
