Where to find Christmas Tree Skirt and Stocking Patterns

Post by grniydgrl »

I have a brilliant idea that next year, I would like to make my family quilted Christmas tree skirts with matching stockings. My problem: I can only find a limited amount of patterns online. I know some of you here must know where I can find patterns.

El has a free pattern for a stocking on her website.... I can only suggest "google-ing" for a tree skirt pattern.

welcome to the forum, hope you have as much fun here as I do

Thank you Chriss. I have googled and googled and have not had much luck. Was hoping someone could give me the name of a pattern I could hunt for.

I am making Christmas stocking for us. I want them to match, but not all be the same. I have bought a couple of Eleanor's books and I am making them so that each one is a different pattern, but same backing, lining, and some of the same fabrics, and the same pattern to cut it out. I did one last year for gs, this year we had a new gs, so I did his and one more. This year, I hope to do the other three. I have the backings, batting, and linings cut out. The books I used were Bear Paws Ranch and then one that has four stockings on the front. I don't have it where I can get the name but it's some like Christmas Stockings. It's here on this site. I bought them when they were 50% off. Karon

The Bear Paw Ranch book is wonderful!.. For a tree skirt I have seen ones that are square that look lovely. They look like a lap sized quilt with a split 1/2 way up one side. You could use your favorite block pattern, add a flying geese border and have a great skirt. Check out the free blocks on the Homepage the Kites would be fun or maybe a signature block with blank centers and a little note could be added each year in one of the blocks or have the little ones sign their name each year...oh what a treasure that would be!

I have made a lot of tree skirts. I buy lots of different Christmas fabrics and cut them into 4 inch squares, then I sew them together and take a small tablecloth and cut out a nice circle and then finish them. They are very beautiful and everyone loves them. For the stockings I do the same but vary the patterns. On some the the ladies stockings I alternate with white with holes (can't think of the name now) and sew a ribbon across the white squares. You will think of lots of different ideas but use the different fabrics.

Hi Ladies: Do you know how to save the websites that others find for you on here without stopping to write it all down and then not being able to find the paper you wrote it on? Can I tell you how I do it. Place your cursor (arrow or whatever) on the sight and right click, with luck a drop down box will "drop down" and one of your options should be "Add to FAVORITES" or words to that effect. Make a "file" inside your FAV's for quilts only and save the Web addresses in it until you are ready to look. They'll stay there until you delete them. As for Christmas Stockings, use some newspaper or scrap paper bigger than you want your stockings, look at a picture or use your imagination and draw a rough sketch of what you will be happy with. You may find that you are very creative on your own. After doing this, cut four pieces all the same size with YOUR pattern adding a seam allowance of at least a quarter inch. The four pieces should consist of the front. the back and two linings. If you want some sort of cuff make a separate pattern piece for it or use other items like lace ribbons what ever to decorate it. You can make them any way you want to. I also like the one in the QIAD book. Hope this helps at least one quilting lady. BYB
