pattern storage

Post by quiltingangel »

Hi to everyone. Just wondering where/how you store your quilt patterns. I have a note book I use to put patterns I get off the internet or in magazines in, but I have several patterns I have purchased from quilt shops and am looking for ideas for storing them where I will be able to find the pattern quickly when looking for it.
Thanks!

I store all of my quilt patterns in my notebooks. I put them in vinyl sleeves and then put them in notebooks according to the type of patterns they are for - Christmas, baby quilts, etc. On the outside of the notebook, I write a note to let me know what kinds of patterns I have in that particular notebook. Hope this gives you some ideas as how to store your patterns.

I use the same method as Dollyquilt but am not quite as organized... I did recently go through and get rid of patterns I will never use.

For things I print off the web or copy out of a magazine, I put them in a binder. Patterns that come in the ziplock bags i have stackable baskets in my quilt closet and one basket is for the patterns.

I also use binders to store my patterns & ideas. When I get some slack time, I plan to get them all out and get more organized, but for now, 3 binders are it. And for things that are smaller, like the size of a dress pattern, I have a pretty, sturdy gift box, about the size of a shoebox, that I stand them up in.

I have about 5 years worth of magazines, too, and I gfound plastic mag holders at the Goodwill. On the front of each magazine, I have a page from a sticky tablet listing anything in there that I'm even remotely interested in.

All my books, binders, and magazines reside in a small 2-shelf book case in my quilting room. It might take me a while to find the pattern, but at least the search area is confined! lol!

I have an accordian file for patterns I print off the internet. I label each slot with some identifying info like technique, kids quilts, gift ideas, blocks, quick and easy, etc. When I am looking for a project I pull out that section and go through it, sometimes tossing some that give me that what was I thinking feeling.

I also use a binder with dividers. For the patterns that are packaged like regular sewing patterns, I keep them in a magazine storage box.

Last summer I went through my magazines and took out patterns I thought I might do. I slipped them into plastic leaves and into a ring binder notebook.

I put my purchased patterns into magazine holders labeled with - wall hanging, baby, table runner.... The binders and magazine holders went on my book shelf.

Any patterns or magazines that I didn't distroy - I passed on to my sister who was recovering from surgery - I cleaned my sewing room and my sister was able to pass the time enjoyeing the magazines.
