I Spy Pattern

Post by Chrissy1 »

I saw a few I spy quilts done here with octagon blocks. Is there a pettern that uses just squares or rectangles?

Chrissy, if you google I spy quilt pattern, you may be able to find what you are looking for. There are several places there.

A simple I Spy quilt could be made by cutting the I Spy fabrics into 4 1/2" squares and alternating them with a solid color square of fabric the same size. Or make them the center of a 9-patch.

I saw an I spy quilt in a magazine that was done with raggedy edges and in flannel. It was really cute and done in squares. ON a TV quilting show this morning they showed how cutting the ragged sides of a raggedy quilt at an angle (45 degrees) instead of straight lines will give the sides a more wavy effect. It was really cute.

I also saw a raggedy edge quilt that was a 4-patch and then the outside of that block was done raggedy sewn to next block. A little simpler maybe to put together but really nice too.

Kids (and grownups too) love the pics no matter how wild or thrown together the quilt might look. As long as it is made with love it will be appreciated no matter how you put it together. Have fun and post a pic when you finish.

Happy quilting, God bless, love and hugs, Shirley Mae

Chrissy, I saw a really cute I spy made using the simple method for an orange peel quilt. The circles were cut of feature fabric on one side then just a plain for the back. When it is sewn together it is already quilted. Just an idea.

I've helped make a lot of I Spy quilts with print in center: 4 1/2" square of bugs, or whatever, surrounded by complementary colours that are 2 1/2" X 4 1/2" to each side and 2 1/2" X 8 1/2" on top and bottom. Very bright and cheerful and EASY! Most are a couple of primary colours that go well together but I've also seen them with all colours surrounding the 'spy' square different. I'll add a couple of pics for you to see.
