crinkly (sp) fabric

Post by Abbigail »

My granddaughter has a couple of toys that have things like ears or leaves that she can pull on. On the inside there is a fabric that makes a kind of crackle or crinkly noise. She just loves them. Does anyone know what the fabric is? I'd like to make her a small blanket or something that she could play with that has that fabric in it.

Do you think it is actual fabric or is it something like a wadded up plastic grocery bag or something else that would make the noise?

I've heard that it is a mylar type plastic, like the foil balloons.

I'm not sure what it is but it holds up to her chewing on it and it being washed. Thanks anyway ladies.

Brenda, I think it's just thick cellophane between layers of fabric. Should be able to stitch through it with a heavy duty needle to secure it, so it doesn't bunch up and shift. I'd do some practice runs first, too, to see if you have to adjust your tension settings.

It's probably a special cellophane. Whatever it is, it would have to be safe for kids is the stitching happened to come undone.

Sandy, I looked at the web site you suggested. Good one! I think that's what Brenda needs.
