applique

What is your favorite thing to use to put on the back of the applique to make it stick. I am clueless.
Thanks in advance

Hi Kathy! I don't have a *lot* of experience with applique', but I have used Heat'N'Bond Lite with good results.

Hi Kathy...I have had really good luck with Steam A Seam II (Lite). It's very light and doesn't gum up your needle.

I use Roxanne's Basting glue or Clover's Embroidery glue to hold the appliqué firmly until I sew it. I put a tiny drop of glue every 1/4 inch around the edge. It holds instantly and no problem with sewing, ironing, or washing. It's cheaper than lining the whole appliqué with a product. Sharon Schamber uses Elmer's School glue for her appliqué. So I started using that. I highly recommend the metal glue tips that fit Elmer's glue to give out a teeny tiny drop at a time or one skinny line.

Sewbug, when you glue, do you then hand or machine stitch the applique? I'm wondering if glue would hold under machine stitching.

I machine sew. I iron Elmer's school glue to dry, no problem. Clover is permanment glue and will stick and hold instantly, just a tiny drop is all you need of that. Roxanne's is like a magnet, you can lift and reset. I use Roxanne's glue more for matching points/seams in a complicated block. But I'm not past gluing the whole seam first if that's what it takes to get it right. I'm an on point person. Cut off points and unmatched seams bug me when I do them.
