Cotton Batting

Post by kbs_style »

Hello,
I am using cotton batting for the first time. How do you go about pre-shrinking the batting?

I have never preshrunk batting, but I think I've seen the instructions on the packaging.

Mine didn't come with the instructions. I Think I just soak it in hot water then press it out between towels and lay flat and air dry but I'm not sure.

I put mine (Warm and Natural) in the kitchen sink and let soak for 30 minutes in warm water. I squeeze out what I can and then put it in the washer on spin. Throw in the dryer and dry. Works great.

I have NEVER prewashed my W&N, LOL :o) What makes W&N what it is is the shrinkage yoo get after it's washed with your cotton the first time. It shrinks and puckers giving you that fresh vintage feel and look. I just love it, Amie :o)

If I don't want my quilt to pucker and have the antique-look, I've washed the batting in my washing machine and never had a problem doing that. I have one of the front-loader machines, so there is no agitator and is gentler on fabrics and clothes.

I don't ever pre-shrink either. Didn't even occur to me:)
