I recently purchased a copy of "Sew Smart" by Clothilde and in it she writes to use an old wool blanket as the bottom layer of the board cover. Take an old wool blanket and cut it up. Make it four or five layers deep. Them make the cover out of 100% cotton-heavy duck cloth. She writes that "wool has excellent resilience and that Mylar ironing board covers reflect heat and my cause scorching". I paid $2.00 for wool blanket at a garage sale and made this cover. While it was a challenge to get it all together, I did and LOVE the cover.

Also, the book Sew Smart is an GREAT book. I have been sewing all of my life, and I learned a lot of tricks from reading this book. Worth the money!!!!!!
