Friday December 19th

Post by grammiequilts » Fri Dec 19, 2025 4:37 am

Good morning it is icy and cold again we were at 50 yesterday, Liam s team lost the game last night and I was off to bed early this cold is hanging on with the hacky cough, Wakes me up. I think tonight I will try a hot toddy.. I was told the cough lasts a while. Nothing to do but let it ride...
I need to take Val to her last MRI It is an hour long and they give her a sedetive so I must drive. I am hoping the roads are good...we had quite a thaw yesterday then rain then freezing again, but the roads outside my house look ok.
If the roads are good I need to go and buy one last white elephant gift today...Im not looking forward to it,,,I looked on amazon till I was blue in the face and nothing jumped out at me...It doesnt have to be a serious gift something funny will do. but I wanted it to be different, I still have the heating pad and the rechargable hand warmers from last year,
Jane is a complicated quilt but I love the challenge,,It will be a long time before show and tell.. I just got block one ( the biggest) finally gluebasted and the layers stitched,,,next to applique the whole thing to the backround,
I donr regret the hand sewing desision It will look amazing and so much better than machine stitching,,,It has a puffy look with the hand work...In between stitching I will load a veterans quilt onto the LA and do that,,,,Gloria has finished hers and binding and label. it looks very nice for her first one. She has 2 yrs to make a second for her daughters 50th birthday,,But other than quilting she can handle the assenbly her self now...She says that will be the last quilt she ever, ever does.
Well I need coffee and get myself presentable I need to leave her in about an hour and a half...Val lived 10 minutes from me...
Hope you all have a great day XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

Good morning,

What a great night's sleep, after one of the craziest football games I've ever watched. At halftime, I texted my DBIL that it was a ho hum game. Then in the second half it really exploded with all kinds of twists, turns, and weird stuff happening. Hawks finally took it in OT. I think they were as surprised as everybody else!

FLO - a new dress! What is is going to be like. I have fabric and pattern in my sewing closet for a dress, too. From 2003! Never started it. Maybe one day . . .

LORI - I'm so sorry your arm is hurting so much. It's so hard to sleep with pain like that. Are you any better today? When do you go back to PT? or your doctor?

CHRISS - that's too bad about the chicken and eggs getting forgotten in the car. Our elderly friend, Lois, onc forgot leftover fish in OUR car. We didn't find it for an entire week. But I bet Dad appreciated a new batch of eggs! Two more sleeps and it will be Elliott Day!! We have a split level house so it's 6 stairs up to the landing and the front door. Then a 180* turn up the last 7 stairs to the LR/DR/K, and sewing room!! And I did it!

MARY Q - Orange and black jelly beans together sound like the best Halloween treat you can have that isn't chocolate/nuts/caramel. AKA a Snickers bar. I did make it up all those stairs!! Hooray!! And I did squeeze into the sewing room just to look around and tell Bill my hiding place so he could fish out his Christmas presents. Doorway was tight with my walker, but I'll made it! But I couldn't get into the closet where I'd hidden all things Christmas.

JANA - lucky you found those cards! sorry about the lecture. And the milk! But you did get even with the jab! So, have you told us, or did I miss it (highly possible!) what your family is doing for Christmas Eve and day? Your house? Sarah's? How is Kate feeling?

TINA B - Back in the day - I always made 12 different kinds of cookies/candy. It had to be 12. I felt I failed as a mom/wife/woman if I only made 11. And of course, all were double batches. I made a lot of cookie trays back then. Plus 6 braided coffee breads. I stopped baking cookies years ago except a single batch of oatmeal craisin for Bill. Sometimes I miss all the baking frenzy and sometimes I'm relieved to not be doing all that any longer. Sorry your SIL seems oblivious to simple courtesy. Maybe a book by MIss Manners should appear in his stocking - along with a lump of coal!

VAL - What did you take to your Open Sew yesterday? When I have so many irons in the fire, I have to make a paper list and try to put things in order of priority. I literally once made a list of my lists, I had so much going on! But lists keep me on track. I love the satisfaction of crossing things off with a bright pink hi-ligher. I'm a bit OCD on lists - not so much on the things ON the list! lol! I think it's good for you and good for Tony to ease up and take a bit of a break. You've been there for him through it all but it's good he's learning to handle things himself now. Your little birdie is learning to fly!

JUDI - Sorry your cold his hanging on. There are a few nasty viruses out there and they are racing through the country. Val is so fortunate to have you there for her. Will you take some handwork to do while waiting? I love white elephants. I have usually found some good gifts in thrift shops. I've never gone actively shopping for new stuff.

LYN - is everyone gone now? Glad Dean survived meeting the fam. It's a bit step! How is Garry doing now? Was he able to be responsive to the family?

Yesterday I did make it all the way upstairs!! And burst into tears! I'd been homesick for my upstairs and never realized it! I'd forgotten how pretty all the decorations are. Bill had the tree lit up for me everything was LuLu Clean! We hung around up there for about an hour, putting bows on a few presents and tucking them under the tree. made a grocery list, had a hot cup of tea and sat in my chair. I did visit my sewing room just to do it. Then, after about an hour, I managed to get back down again! My world has expanded!

This morning I have appts with surgeon and chiro and this afternoon my friend, Carol, is coming to visit. And we can now sit upstairs where it's clean and festive, nibble on Costco tinned cookies, and sip tea like real ladies!

I'm almost to the point - 5 more windows! - where I'll need to lay out my CW quilt to make sure I put the last few sections together correctly. That will be machine work and I can do that now that I can get upstairs! Then I'll put more windows over the seams and hand stitch them down. As the sections go together this project is too much to do by hand in my lounge chair. The big seams go better if I lay them out on on the dining room table and sit and stitch them there.

Our dog is all barky this morning and he simply won't shut up. We think there is a coyote bedded down in the woods behind the house. And Scottie, ever the vigilant watch sheltie (   ) is having none of itI

And a thankful P.S. My brother and Terry made it safely to Wasilla yesterday to my nephew's house. It had to be a rough trip and I was so worried. Flying would have been so much easier and safer. But then I realized, driving in Alaskan winter weather - that's Gene's jam! 5 million miles driving his semi and not a single accident! Half through worse conditions than yesterday. So I relaxed and put my faith in his experience. Now to get him through whatever tests he's undergoing at Providence Hosp in Anchorage. Thanks for all your prayers.

Have a super day! I plan to!

Good Morning Girls

Happy Friday! Man this week has gone by fast! We are back in the deep freeze here this morning. Yesterday "they" said it was going to get to 40*. They lied! I thought, yeah, I'll go make one more mad dash to WM since it's going to be nice. Nope... freezing rain, turned into snow and high winds! I now have a drift on my patio!

Judi..... Do you have time to check out a Goodwill or Salvation Army or thrift store for a White Elephant gift? I'm guessing that might be a good spot to find something. One year, I thought it would be fun to exchange gifts that ONLY came from thrift stores-- a way to recycle instead of buying all new! Did you get your eyes checked yesterday and try to the UnDilate stuff? Your Jane quilt is going to be beautiful all hand done--I applaud you guys that can do those quilts--they are stunning, but I'm afraid I just don't have the patience!

Maryz... Congratulations getting up ALL those steps!!! I'm guessing Bill was right there beside you all the way? The next milestone will be doing them all by yourself! Good news that Gene made it ok to Anchorage. I think Eli was born at Providence Hospital and probably had all his broken arms fixed there. I know right where it is.

Girls... I'm going to have to come back and check in later. For now I have to go do face and hair as I'm going to Peggy's for coffee this morning and a stop at the PO and Walgreens--didn't make it there yesterday! I'll come back when I get home

Good morning. It's going to be a beautiful day today. Rumor is that it will be 57* today but start raining tonight.

Moose decided I needed to be woken up at 2am yesterday and 4 am today. Not sure what is going on with him, but he is snoring on the couch now.

Got my grocery shopping done yesterday and not sure yet what today has in store.

Lori, so sorry you slept wrong the other night. That shoulder is really being a booger. I will definitely let dad know when I send food from now on. Deviled eggs are his wages for working here.

Judi, my grandma's advice would be a shot of bourbon for that cold. Of course a shot of bourbon was her advice for everything. Good luck with the white elephant gift. I would have no clue what to buy. Hope the MRI goes well

Maryz, woo hoo for mastering those stairs. Can't stop you now, you're going places. hope the doctor appt goes well.

Maryq, we were windy here yesterday. Still a few leaves refusing to fall. Enjoy your coffee date.

Dinner tonight will be leftover steak with mushrooms and brussel sprouts. You all have a fab day,
Chriss

Good morning!

Looks like round two is almost here. This storm is coming from south of Maryz, more like Valerie's neck of the woods. Snow in the tippy top of the mountains, rain on me.

We'll be good now, we have milk! Matt took Mr G shopping last night, uptown to the very fancy mall, City Creek. Mr G wanted a special store there. It's pop up store, only for the Christmas season. It's Gumps from San Francisco. This store has a reputation of not marking the price on items, and if you need to sk the price, you can't afford it! Well, I want just the box they use, so Mr G went and got something there for me, just to get the box, The store is Gumps Christmas shop, so they are known for hand blown glass ornaments. We probably can float a loan for one! 😀

Maryz - yippee all the way up! No stopping you now! That game was a doozy! I, in all my years of football, have never seen the rule on a lateral 2 point conversion ever used! Never! I wasn't sure who I wanted to win, it mattered more what would be best for my 9'ers!

Judi - saw your Redwings are doing very well, until the upcoming Utah Mammoth won the other night. My boys are turning into hockey fans.

I might head down to the very lonely Batt Cave, it misses me. But first , I have a list of nurse duties for Mr G. Still needs that flu shot, hopefully that will be quick.

So I'm off,

Hugs and prayers,

Jana
