SATURDAY, November 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Nov 22, 2025 6:04 am

Good morning,

I had to look at the calendar to see if it was Saturday or Sunday. Guess I've got this retirement thing down pat! What I do know is it's November 22, the day President Kennedy was shot. I was 12 years old, in 7th grade. and we had to go pencils down, hands folded on desk, and listen while the principal played radio news over the intercom system. A sad day.

TINA B - you are such an upper to wake up to! You are a cheerleader! It does sound like things are looking up for some of us. But we still need all those prayers! Your getaway sounds like it's going to be relaxing fun!

FLO - glad your new pup is settling in. I'm guessing she has found a very happy forever home! So nice that she has a safe back yard, too, with room to roam a bit.

DIANE - such good new! I was kind of holding my breath for Joe, but now I can breathe again. Good news on you both! How are your arms/shoulders? You were having trouble lifting them high, weren't you, and then you got some PT . . .

JANA - Happy for Mr. G! Always best to get unpleasant things over with ASAP, I say. Praying his angiogram goes well. I've got him on my mental calendar. (because my kitchen calendar is so full already!). I hope those labs put a rush on your new teeth so you can have them by Christmas which is only 33 days away, in case anyone is counting. Are you still working on your JA? How far along are you? I see Judi is finally taking a peek at hers.

LORI - you are right about Alz patients and their false memories. My DSIL did the same thing. Which shoulder is angry? Your dominant one? Have you done much handwork lately before your mitten project? I know when I haven't done any embroidery or cross-stitch for a while, and pick it up again, my shoulder likes to 'tap me on the shoulder' and say, "hey! What are you doing to me?? I was resting!" And you are probably right - I won't be doing a lot during my immediate recovery period. But since I don't really know what to expect I want to be prepared. I've been told no stairs for a week, so I'll be confined to the lower level of our house - garage, fam room, bed & bath. I'm going to set up a "nest" around my recliner with some books and a couple different projects, in case I get bored. I should probably take Bill on a tour of my sewing room so if I send him upstairs for something, I stand a better chance of him finding it.

MQ - you've been a busy little sewer! Or do you prefer 'sewist'? It looks better in print. Anything you have left over after the show, if it would make an appropriate gift for nursing home residents, you might think about donating them there. They are so grateful for anything for their residents as many of them are forgotten at Christmas. And no, this hip surgery is usually in and out in one day, and you walk out of the hospital with a walker. However, since mine is scheduled for later in the day - I won't even by out of recovery until about 5pm - they told me I would probably get to spend the night, for which I'm grateful. Though Foxy won't be liking that! It means he'll have to snuggle up with his father instead of me, his preferred parent.

CHRISS - You are a angel to your parents! And your step brothers (2 of them?) should be grateful you are there! But also aware you are still in recovery phase of a pretty big deal yourself. Do they work? Retired? I believe you once said they live a couple of hours away. Would be awesome if they would take turns coming and staying with the parents until your dad is completely well - and then at least once a week for a day to give your dad a respite. I will send you the soup recipe. But it's kind of loosey goosey - simple to make and you put in a lot or a few veggies any you like! And it freezes well.

LYN - I'm so glad you are settled in "our" park. It's really the only RV park or campground in the area. Lord knows we've looked! It's 25 miles to Autumn's house. We know that site in C Loop they wanted to put you in. Bill said, "Oh no! That won't work!" Glad you got B44. My sister was in B43 right behind you when she fell and shattered her knee 4 yrs ago. We try to keep the middle of the B section. For Foxy's sake. He likes to roam but only goes 2, maybe 3 rigs away from ours. This keeps him away from the dog park and the more busy park roads. I hope they get on the insurance requests ASAP. And praying for you as much as for Garry. We know you are busy, busy, busy, and we appreciate your updates.

JUDI - I've never been to - or even seen - a Hungarian restaurant. I should learn more about Hungarian foods - my great grandmother came from Behemia, which is in the same region. What did you have? You and Jana are starting to talk me into taking down my fall/TG decorations but I really don't have much out to replace them and I hate to ask Bill to haul out those Christmas totes - again. But for now, everything is on hold until we finish our scrapbook for Ms Boots which should happen late today or tomorrow at the latest. Then I'll think more about Christmas decorations.

So yesterday - I got my binding made for my KTVC quilt. Bill has two passes made quilting it but put it on hold until the scrapbook is done - this weekend. So we worked on the book, then friends arrived about noon. They stayed for lunch, visited, and checked out the small electric fireplace that Bill installed in our trailer. We have the exact same RV and they want one installed in theirs. They will bring their trailer to our house Dec 1, park it in front of our shop, and Bill & Marc will work on this project together. It will take a few days. They didn't leave until 2:30. We went back to our scrapbook but didn't get a lot more done. Today's project - more book. If we push, we can finish it today. The 50% off sale ends tomorrow, so we have incentive to keep at it.

We still have a little bit of that soup left. I could freeze it but Bill wants me to cook some Italian sausage, slice it up and add it to the soup. So that, plus a salad, will be tonite's supper. And tomorrow will be new food TBA.

Hugs and prayers around!

I woke up to 64° in the MH, BRRR. I turned the heat pumps on and it got so humid that it set off the smoke detector and of course I was in the bathroom. Minnie doesn't like the detector.

It took me a while yesterday to pull together the important things I need with me and get loaded. Then check oil and tires on MH. I backed out of the driveway just perfect. The neighbors were watching and she text her compliments. Lol Got the Jeep hooked up and was ready to leave when I got a call from the speech therapist. She has put Garry on puree foods. She asked about a swallow test, but 1st hospital hadn't done one. She will do one on Monday.

I had no trouble getting to MaryZ 's RV Park. Got hooked up and slides opened. Walked and fed Minnie, then went to see Garry. He started coughing and coughing. He didn't have any water, so I went for the nurse. She brought water for him to sip on between coughing spells. At times he turned red coughing so hard. I asked if he was trying to cough up flem and he knotted yes. Got him to spit some out. Then he was coughing so hard that he threw up. Sorry to be gross here. But then he was OK. I made sure he was sleeping and left. I hope that doesn't happen again.

I will go over a couple times today to visit. I will also set up my sewing machine. I need to go back to the house today or tomorrow. I have the TV Super Box, but forgot the remote. I also want to put trash cans by back gate and my neighbor will put them out on Tuesday.

I need to read your posts and get caught up on everyone. Prayers for those in need. Thank you all for being here.

Good morning
We are on a holiday vacation having a great time. Cold around 29 but invigorating seeing new things with friendly surroundings and reliving great memories. MaryZ, may I suggest, place your most likely needed projects in a place in your sewing room so DH can easily find, and or take phone pics of the items so he has something to look for if you need it. Hopefully, things will go smoothly and you will be wishing you had time to sit and do things.
Continued prayers for all in need, especially Chriss parents and Garry and Lyn
Setting out decorations sounds like great fun.

Everyone have a great blessed rest of your day!

Good morning!

Bright and sunny here. That always fools me into thinking it warm outside. It not. This morning's discussion is old tv shows and how some were good and some are downright garbage. I'm listening with a half of a ear.

Aaron came over with the little girls. He needed some batteries for a Christmas train Kate found. The train is a really cheap plastic one, should last a year or two. Then they can start collecting a real one. So while they were here, we put out the candy cane lights in the brick planters in the front yard. I've let all the grands have one ride on my stair left. It is now being called Grandma's Disneyland theme park ride. My daredevil little, Lila, would not have a thing with riding. So Grandma stepped in and helped her not be afraid and now she's loves it! All that left to put outside is the new lights and a small tree..

I'm still on the main block for my JA. I have all the instructions in plastic sleeves, so I can use a erasable marker to check off each step. Keeps me 9n track. Since I got into my Christmas Ribbons box, a ufo, it needs borders, I will try ro get them on and over to my LA.

So not much here. Breakfast awaits,

Hugs, and prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

OMG I can't believe it! I didn't crawl out of bed until 9:30!!!! Man do I feel like a slug. Ok, in my defense I was up late texting with my Jen--3 hour time difference between her and I---and at the same time anxiously waiting for more news on my new great-nephew born last evening. He was born at 37 weeks but Mom had some BP issues so they moved things along. Waiting for news this morning to see how Mom and baby are doing and all the details--weight etc and NAME!!!

Maryz... Thanks for the suggestion... about taking stuff to nursing homes! I'd forgotten! Last summer at local ALC asked for donations for things to use as bingo prizes, so I dropped off large bag of stuff for them. I'm actually contemplating making more dinner scarves to donate, just to use up fabric.... tho I think I will ask various homes around here (there's 3 close by) Hope you can get your Shutterfly book all done before the deadline. How many photos do you typically put in her book? What an amazing library Amara will have if you make her a book per year!!! Do you ever hand write personal notes in it when you get it back?

Lyn.... SO good to hear from you as I know you are SUPER busy with getting to camp ground and getting set up. Glad to hear you were able to get a spot as I'm guessing this time of year the place can get pretty full. Just know I think of you often, you carry a heavy load and I hope our thoughts and prayers lighten it just a little for you.

Tina.... If it's that cold where you are vacationing.... is that really a vacation?   I'd like to be someplace a little warmer! Kidding aside, I hope wherever you are they you are getting a chance to relax, read, chill out and enjoy the surroundings.

Judi... Sorry to hear Liam is sick, is he going to follow Gramma's advice? :) Have a great time getting your village set up!! Makes me want to get my stuff out of the rafters, but will postpone until all the kitchen mess is done and things are back to normal.

Jana... Oh my gosh, I bet that chair lift is a real fun thing for the little ones!! Are you going to decorate it for Christmas? Maybe some battery powered lights? I was thinking some tinsel garland, but you sure wouldn't want to risk getting that tangled up in the track for the chair!

Diane.... In case you stop... SO happy to hear the great news that Joe's test came out clear!!! One thing about prayers, there's always an unlimited supply!

Lori... My neighbor across the street with dementia tells stories too and I often look up at Peggy (wife) and she'll be shaking her head---like no, that never happened. We let him talk and nod and agree. When my Mom's sister had dementia and was in a facility, she swore that her apartment was the same place that my folks had stayed on a vacation. In some ways, it can be kind of funny..... but still so very sad. So hard to watch a person with dementia kind of disappear before your very eyes.

Chriss... I'm sure you super busy these days, checking in on Dad and Judi. Sending some prayers for you as well today. Hoping that Jud's children step up. Your Dad having been in the hospital may be the catalyst for some kind of change in her circumstances.

Now sure what the plan of the day is here. I do have small quilt laid out ready to sandwich and pin. I'm trying to find things that will be keep my occupied in the sewing room on Tuesday while the carpenters are here with new countertops. Thought I might wash floors etc, but on the other hand, maybe I'll wait until all the work is wrapped up and I'm sure there will be a new mess on the kitchen floor.

For now.... I need more coffee and then I'll get busy around here!!

Wishing you all a Super Saturday... with lots of prayers, whether you need them or not!

Good morning, it is 41* here, cold, foggy and damp. I wanted to go to the craft fair in Napa today but we will see. I love this kind of weather as long as I don't have to go out.

I tried to sew the binding on the sunflower quilt by machine. Didn't like the way it looked so ripped it out and will do it by hand. Machine binding is just not for me. Then I have the binding to do on Xavier's quilt (the one with all the vehicles). And then finish Cataleia's and get it all done for Christmas. Then I will go back to Christian's (youngest grandson) and the guitar quilt. No more squirrels!

Jana you'd be surprised how long those Christmas trains last. My Dad bought one years ago and I still have it. It still works. We haven't decorated for the Holidays for years so really should pass it on the great grands.

Judi yes it it 9 AM here. I got up at 4. Decided nope, it was too cold and back to sleep till after 6.

Tina so fun to take a holiday vacation. I am hoping DH has the time this year to drive around and look at all the decorations. We have some really elaborate decorators here.

Oh Lyn. hate it when that stuff happens. Oh no, not puree food. It would be nice if they did an actual swallow test at the hospital. It surprised me they didn't do one at the regular hospital. The coughing may be being caused by his inability to swallow his saliva correctly.

Maryz I guess I am one of the few people who have no recollection of the Kennedy assassination. We lived in Europe. I was just 7.

Diane happy news for you and Joe. Funny many diseases can feel like prison. But sounds like things are going your way.

Flo your new family member is just adorable.

Chriss glad Dad is home, is there going to be any home health nurse? I would ask your step brothers to help out with step mom. She really is their responsibility. Someone should have power of attorney for her. Try not to get too frustrated with her. She has no control over her behavior. Dealing with any Dementia is really difficult for family members. Have you ever read "The 36 hr Day". It's an older book but still pertinent to caregiving. And really if she gets mad at you, she will soon forget.

Well I haven't showered yet, or done anything else for that matter (well except mess up the binding) so I should get. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning. It's going to be a great day today.

Yesterday the nurse came to change dads bandage, and I made sure Judy was there with me so that she could be included. I also texted the nurse and let her know about the need to include Judy but because of the alz I need to be aware of everything.

My goal today is to make enchiladas, and a ham dinner, that way the parents will have two meals in their fridge. I also need to make a Costco run for them. After that the rest of the weekend is all about me. I always feel selfish when I say that, but not for too long, I get past that feeling rather quickly.

Maryq, how was lunch with Kevin. One on one time with people you love is so wonderful. 3 more sleeps and you know what!!! Kitchen day!!!! I'm pretty excited for you. Every time I use my sink or wipe down my counters, I think of you and how you will love the new kitchen you will have.

Lori, sure hope that PT helped with the shoulder. I'm glad that Jack is able to walk more. I never thought about laser treatments but am happy he's happy.

Jana, yay for getting an earlier cath lab appointment. I hope more people cancel and you get moved up even further on the list. Yay also for lighting a fire under the dentist. I have learned, especially in the last couple of years, we need to advocate, or find someone to advocate, for our own healthcare or nothing will happen. Like you and Lyn, my pushiness has moved things right along.

Maryz, my step brothers live in SoCal, about 6 hours from here. One is retired the other isn't. The reitred one has had heart attacks and surgeries and other health problems. The other has a family with his last kid still in high school. Thanks for the recipe, I've printed it and am going to give it a shot. I'm really glad your surgery date is on the books. I almost set up a "nest" around my recliner after my surgery but made myself go get things I needed and made my self put things away when I was done. Lazy as I am my butt would have grown roots in my chair and I'd be in this spot forever.

Lyn, Your neighbors must be fun people to give you kudos for moving that huge MH. I have to admit that I am also impressed. Glad Garry gets to move up to puree'd foods. I bet he will like that better than liquids too. When I was in the ICU they had a suction wand thing. When I needed to cough up phlegm or whatever was making me cough I used the wand to get the gunk out. They also told me that coughing would help my recovery. Maybe they have the suction thing available for Garry.

Tina, where are you vacationing, Hope it's a memory making time. Thanks for the prayers, they are very happily accepted.

Judi, hope Liam feels better soon. I also slept in, and I am not up and about yet. After my surgery I had a ton of stuff packed that I was going to do. I never touched that bag. I found that all I needed was a long charger cord for my phone and a pair of pajama bottom so no one would see the crack.

Flo, I made Salisbury steak the other day. It was really good. I used the Bobby Flay recipe as a guideline. He said to use beef bullion as the starter for the gravy but I looked and a jar of gravy had less sodium, which is much better for dad, so I used it as a starter to make my gravy.

Valerie, I love foggy damp weather but my hair turns into a brillo pad, really frizzy. I call it my cocktail waitress hair. I was born in July Kennedy passed in November, I don't recall it either. Dad does have a HHnurse. After I made some calls yesterday she fit him into her schedule. She gave him some memory tests and he did passed. He doesn't hear well so when she asked him the date he thought she asked his birthdate which is 12/31. I know Judy doesn't think straight, and that she quickly forgets everything, but she thinks she remembers and that is where the friction comes in. I ask if there is anything I can get them at the store, she says she can go get anything that they need. Thankfully their garage door spring broke and she can't get the car out. Yesterday she told my dad that his leg was swollen and asked if he had been to see a doctor. It's just a whole lot of crazy.

Ok, here I go, off to take my shower and start my day at 10:30. Guess I will join the slug club with you today.

When I was in line at the pharmacy yesterday I heard a lady tell another lady that she had OCDSS, OCD, something shiny

Happy Sautrday,
Chriss

Maryz, it's my left shoulder and it's doesn't bother me to hand stitch at all. I can still do a lot of things. Just certain movements are not possible. It's a very slow process to get it working again.

Chriss, we had a dog do laser treatments about 15 years ago and it really helped heal her. I do feel they are helping me and Jack. My hair goes a little wacky with damp weather as well. You such a good daughter to bring meals for you dad and stepmom. I'm sure they truly appreciate even if Judy is capable of taking care of everything. haha Just play along. It's easier.

Valerie, I do charity bindings by machine most of the time. I'm not crazy about the look either. Ones I give to family and friends get done by hand.

Maryq, that is definitely sleeping in. When does Jen move back? Is it next year?

Jana, the angel is flying your way. She should arrive by Tuesday.

Judi, your breakfast sounded yummy. I might do that tomorrow.

Tinab, enjoy your vacation.

Lyn, our dogs don't like the sound of the detectors either. Wrigley the 100 pound golden freaks out. Glad you are closer to Gary.

I did a little bit more of going through Christmas stuff up the street. They sure have a lot of it. I found some Jim Shore large Christmas reindeer and sleigh. They are really pretty. I don't remember my mom ever decorating with them. They are from 2004 I know because she dated things. Makes it nice to know when they came about. Dinner will be Halibut, wild rice, and fresh broccoli.

Have a wonderful evening.
