Morning
Maryz, when you debone a turkey, I read you roll the meat in a log, secure with cooking twine to keep juices in. I prefer leaving on bone I think I will loose less meat to removing from bone. When I cook a whole turkey, I use the cooking bags from Reynolds. Makes whole clean up much easier.
Maryq, bassets have BIG feet and very short legs. I just love the breed. It seems they go from hip to knee to ankle in just a few inches!
Need to scoot.

Good morning,

LYN - so sorry to hear the tissue damage of Garry's stroke is increasing, but glad you finally got approval for rehab. Is Garry on Medicare? I believe Medicare authorizes 20 days of rehab/skilled nursing facility if it has been preceded by at least 3 full days in the hospital. At least that was how it was back in my dad's day - 35 yrs ago. Is Garry completely aware of his situation? Praying for successful rehab. Have you decided if you will take the MH to the RV park? It would sure make caring for Minnie easier. Maybe they will allow her in rehab.

CHRISS - so sorry to hear about Dad's infection in his leg. Glad you got him to the ER. I hope it's easily and successfully treated and he's home soon. Caring for and living with a person with Alz is beyond difficult. They simply can't remember what you told them just a minute ago. And there are stages to the disease. One is anger. Sounds like you might be experiencing some of that. My DSIL would take off her clothes in public - ALL of them! She wore 2 bras - outside her clothes - because she had two breasts. She carried a little basket around and had about 5 items in it like you would have in a purse. She would arrange and rearrange those items constantly. It gave her something to do - to be in charge of. And she would put things in very strange places - often the garbage. Gene had to go through the trash every day looking for his watch, a frypan, clothing, books, etc. There is usually some kind of logic behind their actions, but sometimes is hard to follow. Patience is the name of the game when caring for those with Alz. God bless you, your dad, and Judy.

JANA - sorry for Tanner, but perhaps he learned more this way. And a bit of a life lesson, too. Also, sorry about your teeth. I'm glad you now know all about the RR signal systems. I hope there isn't going to be a test!

LORI - glad you caught the gas smell! Best to have the pros check that out. Thank you for sharing that pattern. It will be nice to have something new and different to work on. Good news on Jack! As my chiro and I have discussed laser treatment, I've told him about Jack and how he's starting to do better. He was pleased to hear it! He is a dog lover and his grand-dog, Pancakes, lives with them most of the time. And I'm with you - if I had an enticing new project in a box, and no current sewing project, you bet I'd be tearing into that box! How is the water color class coming along?

FLO - how is the new dog working out? Kenderosa Sue used to have a basset, named Mr. Montgomery. He was so cute and so funny. He and Scottie played together whenever we went camping. Sadly, she lost Monte about 6 months after Kenn passed away. I bet your two will get along well together once they get to know each other. I never thought of deboning and rolling the turkey breast. I know you can buy them in the store - called "roasts" - but we much prefer cooking them bone in, in oven bags or crockpot.

MARY Q - Bill had an ultra sound and so far no word from the dr. I think they are saying it's just soft, nonmalignant tissue nodes. But we'll see what the ENT says when he finally gets around to it. I love decorating, too, but packing it all back up - not so much. Especially if I have to rely on others to get the decorations down and put them back up again. How many boxes/totes do you have? And yes, those Shutterfly books are amazing. We make one every year with the photos we take when we're with Amara. You can add embellishments, journaling, frames, and more. For MUCH cheaper than a real scrapbook. Especially if you are Costco members. And a 20-page book takes the two of us about 3 half-days to put it together. He works the computer and I am the "page designer". So by Thanksgiving your kitchen will be completely DONE?? It's probably a good thing you're not cooking a big dinner for people - you'd be sweating it!

JUDI - glad Mickey is doing fairly well at least for now. Steroids can be wonderful! Will the decorating start in earnest this weekend? How is your shopping coming along? Do you bake much for the holidays? I don't bake any more. We have no one to give baked goods to anymore and we certainly don't need them. But back in the day - it wasn't Christmas if I didn't make at least 12 different kinds of cookies and candies.

LOIS - Hope the dr appt went well for your DH. And PT is helping your foot - excellent! Are you doing spring cleaning? You said you got two rooms cleaned. Or were you just interrupted? Since I've been sort of laid up, I haven't been making the messes around the house that I usually make. It's been kinda nice. Well, except for the part about being laid up and not being able to make messes!

Yesterday was Lulu day! So the house is looking pretty spiffy right now. It's usually fairly tidy, but she puts the shine on - bathrooms, floors, carpets, woodwork, dust, kitchen, etc. Bill made two passes quilting my KTVC using shimmery gold thread (Magnifico by Superior) in a holly and bells pattern. Then we got a good start on Amara's scrapbook - front cover and first 3 pages are done. 17 more pages and back cover to go. Then he went outside to split wood and I worked on CW's. Today, will be more quilting, scrapbooking, wood splitting, and maybe I'll finish my tablerunner. Never got to it yesterday. I also plan to put some minestrone soup into the crockpot. It's not my favorite, but Bill likes it.

Hugs around! Lately it seems we've really become a support group for each other! I know you all are a blessing in MY life! Thank you for that!

Here is the wood pile. Going to take a little while to get it all split and stacked into the woodshed. This is just the maple tree. We have two more hemlocks that need to come down. Saving them for spring.

Supposed to rain, but so far it's missing us.

I started to read MaryZ post and realized I have lots of reading to catch up on.
Chriss, Praying for your Dad, Judy and you.

Yes, Garry is aware of what's going on. They will be doing assessments today, several different therapist. The ambulance picked Garry up about 3, no problems with getting to the rehab hospital. It's looks like a nice small hospital. The staff seems nice.

I'm going to check out the RV Park MaryZ stays at. Kaylyn needs to go back to her place tomorrow. Her BFF has been taking care of her dog Rider, but friend has to go somewhere this weekend. I'm trying to take care of me, eat, vitamins and hugging time with Minnie.

Y'all have a good day.
Lyn

Good morning!

The proverbial "they" are batting 1000! Wrong, as per usual! No rain. Just cloudy.

Ethan did well last night at his concert. He always gripes a bit about practicing, but does it and it's beginning to show as his skills are increasing.

Yesterday my yard guys showed up. We weren't really expecting them until spring, but my yard is all tidied up now for winter. Bushes trimmed and my flower beds cleaned. I had dahlias and they cleaned those up, but we were planning to remove them for winter storage but are unsure if the tubers are still there. Oh well, the yard looks great. Crenda will be here today to shine up the inside.

Not much else here. When living in California, we'd see a cartoon of two buzzards, sitting on a tree limb, having a conversation. One buzzard turned to the other and said, Patience my tush, cleaned up version, I'm going out to kill something! That's me, no patience in waiting for phone calls for appointments! Hopefully today.

So I'll be in the Batt Cave. I've got a mess - fabric has exploded everywhere. And I have a new Kimberbell kit for a Valentine bench pillow that arrived and is in my mailbox. Need to go get it! Laundry may sneak in, then may not.

Hugs and lots of prayers,
Jana

Good Morning Girls

Happy Thursday! Another ugly day and I think I'm seeing some light rain out my window. It's all ok..... it ain't snow!!!

Flo.... Gotta love those Reynolds cooking bags!! That's what I use too. When My Mom used to cook a big turkey dinner... she'd put it in a big brown grocery bag---seemed to work fine and made for nice brown skin, but now I'd kind of be worried about chemicals in brown bags. Even tho I'm not cooking for company this year, I might pick up a turkey breast for me--as I'm not going to get any left overs this year either!

Maryz.... If all goes as planned.... kitchen should be back to normal by Wednesday mid-day! And thankfully, I don't have kitchen duty this year. Shawn & Kris always go to her folks, Kevin and Sara always go to her family.(the old expression: A son is a son til he takes a wife!) Christmas is pretty much the same story. Tho I am often invited to Sara's folks house as they live just down the road. I was walking around here yesterday wishing silently that I had a Lulu!!! Not that I NEED a Lulu.. but it would be nice. Though I think the squirrels that run around my house would certainly be a challenge for anybody to clean around!! OH MY GOSH, that's a lot of wood!!!

Lyn.... My thoughts and prayers are with you daily as you navigate the road ahead. If you found a campground closer to the rehab would you take the MH and set up there? After the first 10 days will they have to apply for another PA for Garry to stay longer at the rehab?

Lois.... I don't think I've seen the top of my dining room table for months!!! I've managed to change out the table runner I have it, but unless I'm having company, my little feather weight machine sits there --so I can sew a little here and there while dinner is cooking--or if I'm waiting for it to be delivered    What's your next project? I've watching too many Youtube quilt tutorials at night, and go to bed with all sorts of ideas---more ideas than time!

Jana.... You know, I think I have seen that comic before as well. SO true. I'm pretty patient most of the time,.... not generally in a hurry, but there have been times when I've been tempted to go back into a restaurant kitchen and fix my own meal because there are so slow. Bummer for Tanner that he didn't pass his test----lesson learned I guess---might even remind him for the rest of his life, that studying before a test is a good idea!

Judi.... Nice to hear some good news for Colleen's FIL! Steroids can be wonderful things. My dad sure loved them when his lung would cause him problems. (COPD)

Chriss... OH my gosh!!! Your poor Dad!!!! I so hope they have the infection under control and that he heals quickly. Does he ever think about finding extra help for Judy? Being a full time caregiver is so hard. Do her children live close enough that they can be of more help and will they? Do you sometimes want to "smack" them to get their attention that they NEED to step up?

Lori.... Were you able to get the stove checked out? I don't know too much about gas stoves, but isn't there like a pilot light that needs to be on? I do have a gas fireplace and can see the little light glowing so I know it's ok. Just don't light a match when you smell gas!!
IMHO---insurance, especially health ins. has gotten ridiculous----having to get PA for everything is crazy!!!

Plan for the day is to go meet my sister for lunch. When my Mom was alive, since all 3 of us have November birthdays we'd meet for lunch, so Annie and I try to carry on that tradition. She is babysitting little Norah today so I think I'll run down to niece's house and see if I can sneak in some baby squeezes. Need to stop at Sam's club on the way so I better get in gear---takes a while to get this face ready for public viewing!

Wishing you all the very best today. Prayers all around!

Good morning everyone, been busy so AWOL!

I did get in one sew day and have signed up for 3 more. I will also attend MAD Monday on Monday. Haven't got any other quilting done though. So gotta start putting the pedal to the metal. I will have to try binding on machine again to get all done by Christmas.

I have got all the laundry caught up, some cleaning done, groceries mostly caught up. Going to Safeway and Costco today. Now trying to catch up my sleep. I went back to bed after DH left for work this AM and slept another 2 hours. I do feel a bit more awake today.

Lyn ongoing thoughts and prayers for you and Garry. Are you both on an advantage plan? What happens with most Advantage plans is the therapist at the rehab center send in their documentation and goals to the insurance and then the insurance either approves or disapproves.

One thing that is not widely known for those of us on Medicare, Advantage Plans offer lots of incentives but when it comes to SNF (which is what rehab is) the advantage plan decides when you no longer need it. With traditional Medicare, the SNF decides. There are criteria that they follow and when they feel Medicare will no longer pay, they will issue you a NOMNC (Notice of Medicare Non Coverage) 3 days before they plan discharge. Note that Medicare will not pay past day 100. Nor will advantage plans. But to get that full coverage, you must continue to show progress. This is a rare event even though everyone says you get 100 days. Plus only the first 20 days is full coverage, starting day 21 there is a copay. Right now that copay is $209.50 per day unless you have a secondary plan. Advantage plans may vary in their copay amounts. Read, read, and reread your plan benefits.

Flo you know I never thought about different kinds of turkeys. I went on the assumption that all turkeys are turkeys and nothing more.

Maryz Minestrone is not my favorite either. Luckily DH never asks for it. Yes I have heard from DBIL. He couldn't figure out that he had additional Skin Prep spray (full bottle in the cupboard with the other supplies) so I sent 3 bottles from Amazon, they should get there tomorrow. Yesterday was his birthday. He is now officially 79. That is a lot of wood!

Lois I hope to watch the CMA awards today. I recorded it last night as I knew I wouldn't stay awake. I have a hard time sitting through longer programs due to my back and hip so I record them. Then I rewatch them is sections.

Chriss I have to read back and see what happened to Dad. But it doesn't sound good with a trip to the ER! Hoping he is able to heal without further complications.

Well puter just said battery low so will get before I loose all this. Have a great day all.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Well I thought I posted here today, So much for brain power, I was up dressed and went to the grocery store was a big shopping trip since i wanted to start stocking up for the holidays,,,I got a lot of different mixers for the bar fridge and pop for the kiddos. ( yes we call it pop here and the kids are allowed to have it on Chrstmas eve,) I also got all the fruit for the pi es and .
I dont bake a ton of cookies but at Christmas but I do try to get some done. The kids are all older so it seems no one wants to do cookies with me. Colleens kids go to her in laws for cookie day, Grear grands to their grand parents. So I jus do the favorites around here, sugar, peanut butter, C chip, and maybe snickerdoodles...I will make Maryq's cranberry bread, and that should do it,,,I have the girls bring desserts for Eve, and they get very creative, Sophia of course will bring her famous pumpkin roll that I taught her to make and now it is her signiture dish, Britany will make Paula Dean "Not yo mamas banana pudding" I havent been told what other goodies we will have, but thanksgiving I get desserts apple pies pumpkin pies and peach cobbler with the summer peaches I have in the freezer...
Well hopr you alll are having a great day.
Lyn I pray that Garry gets the best care, and you take care of yourself....My Medicare advantage paid 100% of 10 days post knee surgery, but will cover 100 days as needed. I only asked for the 10 days, and didnt look further but I had no co pay for my stay there,or any out of pocket expense,,,
