Wednesday sept 24th

Post by grammiequilts » Wed Sep 24, 2025 4:36 am

Good morning I was up early stirred the apple butter, I put it in the slow cooker last night, I will hit it with the immersion blender this morning to smooth it out and jar it up for the freezer. I dont can anymore so my 2 freezers hold the goodies. I have condord grapes in the fridge to make grape jam and that is all i do for the year, I wont be doing that today though I need to go get a box of jam jars, I give a lot of this away and run out of jars, and lids.
I did a little more work on the lof cabin blocks of the KTVC quilt. Trying to get to the assemble block part,,,soon I hope. Lots of small errors in this pattern....it is best to watch the videos as she tells you the boo boo"s as she videos...
Hope you are all having good morning, Dinner was postponed last night as Ken had to work later than usual so we are going tonight,
Hockey season has started, So I will need to do my quilting earlier in the day,,( wings won first preseason game last night)

Good morning!

JUDI - you are busy being Judi! I can almost smell the apple butter from here. Do you add cinnamon? I think I smell cinnamon. How many jars do you get? I made two batches of strawberry jam last June but I missed raspberries and blackberries this year. I haven't seen concord grapes in the stores since I was a little girl and they came in elongated oval baskets. Glad your Wings won. It sets the tone for the season! Who all in your family is playing soccer this season? Liam and Ryke? Are they on school teams? Community teams? Other teams? The formal weddings you are going to in Nov - are they formal for everyone who attends or just for the honored guests - like grammas? Are you a gramma of bride or groom? Black slacks paired with a formal colorful top would probably be quite appropriate. And I bet you wouldn't be the only one wearing slacks.

LORI - your watercolor class sounds interesting. If you were here and asked me to go with you, I would do it. That's a good factoid to know about criminals testing garage door codes. I would be working in the yard, too because of weather. Save inside for winter. Do you still have plans to do some reno work on your house and stay in the parents house during that time - whenever it happens? I never intend to nap during the day. I'm not a napper. But I do have to sit and rest several times a day. So I check in here more often than usual, read, or listen to my audio book while working my cathedral windows. And then I wake up!

CHRISS - I can't lift the corner of the mattress either when making the bed. Is this something you could get Judy to help with? Just the corner lifting? I guess you could always just lay a flat sheet over the mattress and call it good for a few weeks. Can you call a friend for some help? It's hard for people to realize the little things that are so hard for someone who is injured list, so they don't offer. But if you ask, I'm sure you have a friend who would be very happy to help do anything for you. And no, I can't take Tylenol PM to help sleep - I already am taking two different pain meds at bedtime and don't think it would be a good idea to mix in a third one.

MARY Q - No one loves you like your dog! Crazy, unfiltered, pure dog love. Nothing like it! Glad you are set for an outfit for niece's wedding. Do you have a top? Is the wedding formal? I've never been to a formal wedding. Though you just reminded me, I have, in my storage closet - a knee length, black, beaded dress that would work for a formal wedding. It passed inspection for a formal military ball where my outfit had to be approved by our friend who invited us. He was a colonel at the time and, as his guests, what we wore reflected on him. You know, panty hose are passe' now. You can wear them if you want - but most people no longer do. I have mixed feelings about this - I love dresses and skirts but don't really have the legs to pull them off without panty hose. But I can't get them on!! I can barely get on my regular sox these days.

LYN - planes going overhead can open your garage door?? I've never heard of such a thing. But you probably know more about planes than I do. I didn't realize they had garage door openers. :D Anyhoo, I guess when you leave for TX you'll be unplugging those doors! Please be careful washing those windows! I try to leave our house as spotless as I can get it and I look at the windows and think, "we'll be gone and not be able to enjoy their cleanness. They'll need washing again when we return in spring". And bidda badda boom! I've talked myself out of washing them!

VAL - glad things are moving along for DBIL. And that you will get a break to go home for a while. I will try to remember Oct 10 as his surgery date.

JANA - they stopped doing biannual inspections on vehicles here. They weren't finding enough to pay for keeping the inspection stations open. Glad we're done with that! We have the same storage area under our 12x16 deck. But it's high enough we can walk around under there - metal patio furniture, hoses, planters, pots, and two 55 gal drums of emergency water. It's great storage. But our lattice is diamond shaped not square.

LOIS - Were you buying fruit just to eat or to can/freeze? I really want to make and can applesauce but the shape I'm in I'm afraid to buy a big box of apples and then not be able to take care of them. I'm thinking of asking my grandson (the chef) if he might help me.

FLO - I have to say I'm like you - work best with a looming deadline. So how is that guest room coming along? Is your DH realizing yet how much stuff he has?

Yesterday was B U S Y. In the early morning I finished my half Christmas Cactus block for KTVC. Then we went to Olympia to help out our broken friends. Bill winterized their trailer, put away their patio furniture, winterized their A/C unit, covered their hose faucets for winter, and other things. I did small stuff - carried folded laundry upstairs (stairs are hard for me, but good exercise for my hips), watered outdoor pots, put away small patio things for winter, filled birdfeeders, cleaned parts of the fridge, took chili and cornbread for lunch, and that stew for their supper. We took them to Costco and it was almost funny - them in their two scooter carts blocking aisles, losing each other, trying to reach stuff. We were there about 6 hours. They were so grateful. They looked exhausted when we left and so were we! Then, just like last Friday we got stuck in a stop'n'go traffic jam on I-5 on the way home. But fortunately, we know the back roads and were able to get off and had a long, but scenic drive home.

I slept pretty well last night. At least 7 hours! This morning I'm going to get in my walk, chiropractor appt, and then Lara and I are going for mani-pedi's. After that she has a lunch date with a friend and I'm coming home. Our friend, Annette, has Covid. They had 2-week camping rezzies in Oregon so she sent Tex to go camping alone and she stayed home. I will make some chicken soup and we'll drop it off on her doorstep. Then we might make a short stop at Costco on our way home, pick up an Rx at CVS, and get our mail at the UPS store. If I get in any sewing time I'll cut out the stocking blocks in KTVC. And slowly but surely, I'm making progress on my CW's. This will only be 60x60 when I'm done. I remember Carole - on our forum years ago - made a CW for her DD - and it was at least queen sized! I can't imagine!

I'm not sure what supper will be tonite. I've been so busy cooking for other folks, that I've forgotten about us! Maybe some of the chicken soup.

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning!

H were getting downright chilly! In the 40's now and barely in the 70's for our high. General Conference is the first weekend of October and tradition has it, it always snows! So I'd better get things buttoned up for winter. The landscape company boss, Matt's buddy, was out yesterday, walking the yard and checking on how it's being taken care of. We'll see how it goes from here.

A new surprise happened. Daniel has been busy and neglected to tell me about a third kitten at his house! A very pretty, white, blue eyes, much like little Cuda in coloring, slightly longer fur new kitty. Drumroll, they stayed with the Mopar car themed names, and this kitten is called, Daytona. Kari says she's shy and hides a lot. Daytona has adjusted to the other kittens too. The kids has a guest bedroom downstairs in their finished basement that has a queen size bed. Remember under the box springs there's a fabric cover? Well, Daytona clawed and pulled a section down, so it hung like a hammock, and that became her hiding spot. The other two joined her there too. Kari fixed that, so they can't hide there anymore.

I have the Karlie school run today. Kari has work travel to San Francisco. She'll be home Friday. So I'll pick up from school today and tomorrow. No school on Friday. Sarah is doing drop off as Ethan has school too. It's parent teacher conferences, so it early release time, just after lunch. Daniel has flex time and will be home early.

So later, I'll be sewing. And maybe ironing.

Enjoy your day!
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning quilting world.

Well DBIL remembered his protein drink but not the meds. Nor did he drink his 2 liters of water he is supposed to drink every day. So I fixed the Miralax for him and he drank it. Dr says because of the tumor he is at high risk to get a blockage. I reminded him if he gets a blockage that means emergency surgery by whatever Dr. is available. And since his will be gone it likely won't be his. He just gave me the look. His memory is horrible! There is a gentleman in town who can check on him while I am gone.

I got 4 rows of the guitar quilt sewn together. Not sure I like the quilt but it will be nice for our friend.

Tony's sister sent me a little Jim Shore statue. It's a Hedgehog holding a flower. It's quite cute. He can sit on my large sewing table while I sew.

Woke up to a phone call just before midnight. My granddaughter was on the way to the movies. A motorcycle apparently ran a light and T boned them. They were trying to reach my daughter. Long story short she is okay. Don't know about the car yet.

Today we will go up Mt. Charleston where we spread my sister's ashes. Say hello to her and then go eat lunch at the lodge. Soon snow will come up there and we won't be able to get all the way up. I will dust and vacuum today also I hope. May start cutting out another quilt also.

That's all for now, may all your dreams come true and your bobbin stay full.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!

Sunny but only 33°. I sure hope it's warmer than that tomorrow morning at this time.

With it raining yesterday, I talked myself out of going down the Mtn. Instead I cleaned the sliding doors, washed guest bedding and sewed one block. I also figured out where to put the detectors, but couldn't install, the drill battery needed charging.

MaryZ, Garry, having been a United pilot for years, says there something in the planes that can set off the garage door to open. I think it may be if they are on the radio as they are going over. Just looking at Google, it says older doors had trouble with a military frequency at one time. Our door opener is 1980's. 🤔 I do unplug them when we leave.

I better get down the Mtn and back. Amanda and Moose, the dog, will be arriving this afternoon.

Hope y'all have a good day.

Good Morning Girls

Another perfect fall day here, a little humid but it will be mid 70's (chilly morning) today and IF the sun stays behind the clouds... I COULD (repeat could) wash a couple outside windows-NO promises tho!

Judi.... Do you have access to large amounts of apples to make your apple butter? It sounds delicious! As does home made grape jam/jelly.

Lois... Are you doing the Lori Holt Snowman quilt? I think I googled it and decided that "nope not doing that one!" I get overwhelmed looking at very detailed quilts.

Maryz... Yup, I have a top for the wedding! I actually found it at Marshalls a long time ago and have never had an occasion to wear! No way on heaven or earth that I'd get my big butt into panty hose!!! I don't even have dress shoes to wear--only my black sketchers--so being lazy I ordered a pair from Amazon! We'll see how those work out! My gosh, you guys did have a busy day--I'm sure your friends so appreciated all you did for them. No wonder you slept well!

Jana... THREE cats!!! I guess there are folks that just love cats!

Valerie... Glad to hear there is someone that can come check on Tony--that must make you feel better about going home for a bit. Happy to hear you DGD is ok too!!! How scary!

Lyn.... Good idea to unplug those garage doors!!! I have heard that sometimes openers (we call them clickers up here! -:) ) can be reprogrammed just by holding the clicker near the main box for the door opener! Scary isn't it! Where do you get the "Sprayway" glass cleaner? Is that the stuff than comes in a spray can and is foamy? I have something like that, not sure of the brand tho--I like it because it gets the bugs off my windshield of my car!

Lori.... Bet it will be nice to have all the paperwork done for your folks assets. Are you eventually going to put their house on the market? When my folks bought their house in 1956--they paid about $19,000.00 for it. When we sold it in 2003, the price was I think about $247,000. My Mom was floored that a house was that much. I checked Realtor.com one day, just for grins---last sold for $400,000.00 in 2020! If I ever get down to that part of town--I sometimes drive by---and wish I could go see the inside of the house I grew up in.

Chriss... So glad your Dad "knows a guy"!!! I think Shawn might be a little relieved that he won't have to re install my dishwasher. But Kris did say that if they felt the need to "fight" they would come and do it for me!  They don't really fight fight, it's more like "do it this way.... no do it this way.... no do it this way" I found out that that sink we like comes either direction, so now I just have to decide which direction I should get--to best hook up the garbage disposal that's already there!

Miss Zara went home yesterday. It just seems so quiet here without her, I kind of got used to talking to her during the day, and having her curled up in a ball on my bed. But I get her back tomorrow night as the kids are going to Wisconsin for the weekend. I did get the little mini charms I ordered to finish up my Christmas quilt so I may try to finish that today. Yesterday I finished up making 15 pairs of fleece mittens--so I'm glad that project is DONE!!

For now I definitely need more coffee and then better get the dirty dishes washed up!

Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday!

Maryq, my parents bought their house for $24,500 in 1966. It's now worth just under a million. It's absolutely crazy. We do live in a nice neighborhood and our weather is pretty great year round. Glad Zara is good company for you. I talk to the dogs and cats when we had them. They're good companions.

Judi, sounds like you figured out the outfit. I don't can, but I do freeze a lot of things. Especially meals and soups. Makes my life easier when I need a quick meal.

Maryz, I tried to get my friend to take the class, but she is just too busy. Yes, we still have plans to do work on the house, but getting started is the hardest part for us. I will probably have to do most of the work, so it will wait until I'm ready. Bill's not a ball of fire about getting things done.

Valerie, glad your granddaughter is okay.

Jana, yay for another kitty. She sounds like a pretty girl.

I need to get going. I have my drawing class this morning. Jack and I walked early.

Have a wonderful day.

Good afternoon, it's been a busy day, but a great day.

Dad needed me to take him to the doctor. Nothing serious, but that ride earned me breakfast at Denneys. It pays to be the daughter.

After that I went to Hobby Lobby and Michaels. And over to Kohls and JC Penneys. Kohls has t-shirts called "the every day tee" they are so nice and comfy, and they are a little longer than they make shirts without being a tunic. So I bought 4 on sale for $8 each. At Penneys I was looking at purses. Mine is scuffed up. I found two just like mine in different colors, regularly $50 each, on sale for $35 and somehow I got them for $20 each. Bargain.

Stopped at tractor supply and bought dog food. They loaded it into my cart and my trunk. Tomorrow afternoon Slim, the local handy man, will haul it into the house for me. I just love Slim, he is so darn helpful.

And now I am chatting with you all, and soon will pick up a friend for the farmers market and $10 burgers. She bought a tri tip dinner from a FFA fundraiser and it's too much for her to eat so she is giving me half. I will buy her burger tonight just so it's fair. She's a good friend.

Lori, so nice that the paperwork is all signed and in order. Now the hard part, finishing the cleanout. Thankfully you have nothing but time. It will get done when it gets done. Soon the rains will come and the garden will take care of itself. You will be inside finding all kinds of things. House prices have skyrocketed. And often go above asking price. My son was lucky and got in on a house sale before it went on the market, or they would have likely been outbid. It pays to know people.

Judi, Jerry used to make freezer jam. I have to say, I'm glad all those sweets aren't around here anymore. I bet your apple butter is marvy. Enjoy dinner tonight. Your skirt and blouse sounds like a perfect outfit. You will be stunning.

Lois, that snowman will be so happy to have a right side to match the left.

Maryz, I've never had my nails done, hope it was fun. I get how appreciative your friends were. Just having someone you can call to help is wonderful. I had a friend bring me a loaf of bread, and although it wouldn't have been my first choice, it was the most wonderful bread ever. I think grilled cheese is a good thing to go with chicken soup. I'll just wait on washing the sheets. I really only sleep on one half so the other half hasn't been used. I am so very particular about how my bed is made. I don't want help and need it tucked in the way I want it. I am quite OCD and no one can make it as good as I can. Crazy, I know.

Jana, do you have a calendar to keep track of the comings and goings of your kids and grands? I am picturing a Sunday after church meeting with all of them gathered around the table, the dessert dishes have been cleared and out comes everyones tablet, laptop, phone, and calendars, and everyone accepts their assignments.

Valerie, So glad DGD is ok, my gosh that's not the call you want toget. I was going to suggest setting up some kind of alarm to remind DBIL to take meds or drink water but the alarm would go off and he might not remember why and that could pose another set of problems.

Lyn, hope you got home before Moose and Amanda. I've heart that planes radio frequencies set of garage doors.

Maryq, yes, that sink can have the disposal on the left or right. Mine is on the left. The smaller sink will be the garbage disposal side. I never use my disposal, I have a septic tank.. Glad your kids can fight their way through installation. too funny. It is amazing how much houses go for now days. My parents bought a little 3 brm one bath house that I grew up in and their house payment was $89. It was a great house in a little neighborhood. I liked growing up there.

Allrighty, can't go to farmers market in my slippers and if Moose wants to stay indoors while I am going he had best take a walk down the driveway with me. Dinner tonight $10 burgers. Mushroom swiss burger to be exact.

You all have a great night.
