Good morning,

JUDI - So glad you didn't have a tornado! And that you have a basement in case you ever do! Last March we ordered a 40-yd x 90-in roll of W&N batting from Walmart for $255. It was much cheaper than the discount we were getting from W&N when we picked it up at the factory in Elma, WA and worked out to be about $6.40 yd. It comes boxed and lasts us about 18 months. I stand the box up in the box in a corner of the quilting room. It's about an 18x18 inch footprint. Now you have to decide what's next. You could split the difference: prep the shirts - cut them larger than you want your block to be, add stabilizer, and stack them in a safe place. (don't forget sleeve and/or pocket logos!) and have them ready to go, but then start playing with your Christmas quilt. Pro Tip: if you put ANYTHING "in a safe place" put a note in plain sight where that safe place is so you can find it again! Ask me how I know this.

VAL - I don't know how you can keep track of so many quilts in progress at the same time. My mind - and my sewing room - would be a disastrous mess if I tried to do that. You could always purchase premade labels and handwrite them. Your beautiful quilts should have your name and date on them somewhere. I heard once of a quilter who wrote her name and the date on the binding on the backside of every quilt she made.

LOIS - Yes, the forum was QIAD's problem last few days. This morning seems to be better though. How many poppy blocks did you get made? I thought you already were working on the Minecraft quilt.

CHRISS - it's fun to design a new kitchen - and it can be all your own wishes. I remember Kathyquilts always loved red and yellow together, too. Eight months after I lost Roy, (my late DH#2) I decided to remodel my kitchen, too. I refaced all my cabinets, new countertops, sink, and floor. And since I had a blank wall (a space designed for a small table) I designed a bank of new cabinets which doubled my storage and counter space. The cabinet makers tried to get me to change my mind on some features. So glad I didn't listen to them. They are much more practical than the way they wanted to do it. A designated sharp knife drawer, a tall skinny cabinet for cookie sheets, cutting boards, pizza pan, etc. A deep drawer for plasticware, sliding pull-out shelves for bakeware, pans, etc. And glass doors for the upper cabinets to display my dishes, glasses, and pretties. After 36 years I still love these cabinets. And to answer your question, as far as I know, I don't have heart stuff going on. The monitor showed nothing in the two weeks I wore it. But I see my primary care doc tomorrow. We'll see what she says.

JANA - You are almost ready for the big party! Sounds like your party plan will be a lot of fun. How many people do you expect? Is it just family or will there be friends and other hangers-on, too? And what kind of foods?

LORI - I don't care a lot for burgers either. Especially turkey burgers. In fact we don't eat much red meat at all, though if you'd been here this past week you wouldn't have believed that. But every few years I crave a good steak. Happy anniversary! How many years? Enjoy your pedicure and your supper out!

MARY Q - are you cooling down yet? Missed you yesterday. I'm guessing you couldn't get on the site.

FLO - of course your DGD loved her stuffed animal! We knew she would! Is this the bear you made from Grampa's shirt?

Yesterday Bill and I finished our Shutterfly scrapbook for Amara. It's ordered and she will receive her copy in a couple weeks. Also a copy for her parents and one is coming to us. I also made my sample block for my QOV quilt for Lee. It came out great so I'll probably cut the rest out today. And check out the trailer after having a guest stay in it for 3 days. We grilled chicken last night and now have some leftover so I think I'll chop it up, grill it with onions, peppers, and zucchini. It's going to be a laid back day. At least that's my plan.

Oh, the $64 parking ticket I got a couple weeks ago? It's been dismissed. We e-mailed them the video from our dash cam of pulling into the lot and parking, and also when I left the lot 7 min later. Their "permit parking only" signs were not visible in the video. So they now have large red signs EVERYWHERE, and dismissed my ticket. Yay! This almost paid for the dashcam!

Hoping all y'all have a nice, relaxing day.

Good morning!

I'm just the opposite of Judi, thought the site came up , well, more normal. Quite a bit faster than the past few days

Not much here. Daniel has all but one, 2 foot section of the railing installed and the cap came in, and it's all in place too. We thought we'd paint/stain the cap the same as the deck boards, but the barn red has won out. So Daniel doesn't like the flavor (brand) of the barn paint, I used, so he took the leftover can to get it color matched in the brand he prefers. Now we are hunting up some led lights for under the stair treads. A safety issue as well as decorative. We have a list of safety items to add here with Mr G's diagnosis. Daniel will also add a gate at the top of the stairs to prevent a fall. Not that we are there yet with Mr G, but will be ahead when it's really needed. I'm heading to Costco today for a string or two of those Edisto bulbs everyone uses to light a deck. Those have three posts to hang between, just above the railing.

The other day, we had a very interesting conversation about rainbows. About, the other side of a rainbow. Now y'all all understand that a rainbow is created by the refraction of light. So we see a rainbow when the sun is behind us, and creates the rainbow in front of us. Well, I presented the point that a rainbow has a backside, like a piece of paper, front and back. Wondering how the back would look. Well, that got shot down, as Mr G pointed out that light doesn't have sides. That a rainbow is just bent light and there's no back, just what we see. Well, I still disagree. So asked Daniel's take, and the brat agreed with Mr G! Your take, does a rainbow have a backside? So if you go over the rainbow, and look back, are you in Oz? 😉 we do have some strange conversations here....

I got the laundry done yesterday, even the ironing. It's going to be hotter than yesterday, so I'll be in the Batt Cave, that stays always at 72! No A/C required. I'm also packing away July decorations. Daniel had to remove the bunting from the temporary railing to do the final installation. I have a wall hanging with watermelons on it for August. And a few other summery things.

It's food time here. Dinner will be something with turkey burger, that's soft enough to cut with a cheap plastic fork,. Still to be thought up....

Hugs,
Jana

Good Morning,
I am off to the Farmers Market today for peaches and maybe corn. They are the best!

Chriss - Prayers for you! You are having to deal with a lot right now. BTW I have Corian countertops in a blue, brown, and white pebble design. Sometimes things get lost but it is beautiful. Backsplash is cream with a blue tile design. I really love it.

Jana - Have you thought of making Sloppy Joes with the ground turkey? I make it and prefer it to Turkey Burgers. It has celery, onions, garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and the "Homemade" brand of Chili Sauce in it. Really yummy! Prayers for your DH too.

Good morning Girls

Sorry I didn't make it here yesterday. I was up and out early to run a few errands so I could get home before it got too hot. When I was surfing around Facebook the other day I ran across a local charity that knits/crochets blankets for cancer patients. So I messaged the gal and asked if she could also use quilts! She got back to me right away and said YES!!! So I bagged up about 15 random quilts from my house and delivered them to her. Some were quilts made of swap blocks--so those of you that made swap blocks, they went to a good cause. She started this charity after she lost her son to glioblastoma about 6 years ago. She was a delight to talk to and I'll keep her in mind going forward---trying to sew up all the fabric in my garage. A gal can only keep so many quilts in a tiny space!

Judi.... Do you use bread flour when you make your bread? I bought some a while back so I might try baking bread from scratch again, but think I'll wait for cooler days!! I wonder if the weather we had the other night traveled to Michigan? When our sirens went off I was outside looking at the sky. Poor Connie went to her bedroom and then fell and couldn't get up! Katie checked on her and got her taken care of.

Flo.... I bet she will carry that little animal with her every where she goes!!!

Maryz... I was able to on get for a minute yesterday, but it was very slow. So I decided to get busy and run those errands. Nice that they waved your parking ticket! I got a parking ticket in a Target parking lot for parking in a handicapped zone. The strips on the ground were covered in snow so I didn't realize it was a spot. My bad... paid the $225 fine! Next time I'll watch OR better yet, next time I'll have my own HC permit! I suppose I could have fought it, but don't think it would have mattered. Any word on your truck?

Jana... Sounds like your deck is coming along and will be beautiful. A gate is great idea and lights are always a good thing, especially if you want to be able to enjoy the deck in the evenings. Here's a fun subject you can bring up .... "What would it be like if we all had tails like the animals" It was a conversation I was in back when I was in high school with some co-workers. Would girls have smaller tiny ones? and boys would have big ones or would everybody have the same size? Or say if you would born brunette, would you want to get blond highlights on your tail? Would you need to have a special coat to wear in the winter time to keep it warm?
Interesting question about the rainbow though, I think heaven must be on other side.

Valerie.... Check out Amazon for either Brothread or Simthread for embroidery thread. That's all I use in my Brother machine. It works beautifully and I never have any trouble with it. I do have some of the more expensive stuff--Sulky and some Robinson/Anton and it works as well. But the Brothread and Simthread is often on sale at Amazon. I have some extra here, If you're not in a hurry about it, I'll send some home with you when you stop by!

Lois.... I take it you don't have central Air? We never had AC when I was a kid and it sucked big time as my bedroom was upstairs too and always so hot. My Mom loved the heat--- it would get to 90* up there and she would say "Oh is it hot? I didn't notice" I ended up with about 14 poppy blocks and will send mine off tomorrow.

Chriss.... Hope all went well for you yesterday. Don't remember which Dr you were seeing, but I pray the news is all good. I think we should just unplug the whole world for about ten minutes and let everything reset. If money were no object, from what I know from doing my kitchen before, I'd do mine again in Quartz. I loved it in the old house, doesn't scratch, doesn't stain. Most of the granite available around here are dark pieces, either beiges or browns. I was able to get quartz in white/grey since it's man made. You will know when the perfect choice comes along.

Lori.... Thank you so much!! The zippers arrived yesterday and they are the perfect size. One thing nice about the plastic zippers is you can cut them to fit! I see your package of Swap Blocks in my informed delivery so they are on the way! Once they are all here, I'll sort and send back ASAP!

No place I have to go today, so if you need me I'll be in the sewing room. Need to finish up a few more pencil cases and get them ready to deliver by this weekend. They will start putting school bags together for the kids next week. Last year this "Project Pencils" serviced about 650 kids--this year there are over 800 kids that need help. Every year the need increases and more and more folks step up to help by adopting a student and providing what they need. The local Walmart donates a ton of stuff too--and while I'm not a big fan of WM in general--it's nice that they have stepped up.

A few dishes to wash... the I'll be sewing!

Wishing you all a Great Tuesday

Good morning. What a beautiful day it's turning out to be so far. Yes, it's early yet, I am optimistic that the rest of the day will follow my beautiful morning.

Yesterday I got my teeth cleaned then went into town and finally purchased my blind to replace the one that broke. Wouldn't you know it, after 20+ years they decided to change the brackets that hold the blinds up. Not I have to go get the screw gun and enlist my carpenter skills, such as they are

Then I went to the parents house. By the time I got home it was too late to eat so I had watermelon for dinner. I really love watermelon.

Today my parents will be here and I will take my stepmom to get her hair done. Dad and Moose will have a mens day here putzing around. Judy and I will stop at the healthfood store and get some sandwiches to go and we will have lunch. No clue what else is on my agenda. I'd like to start raking some leaves, but we will see.

I have been praying about my heart and what it's doing. It hasn't been racing lately. Both yesterday and today I've noticed a difference. I'm hopeful. I will know more on Tuesday's appointment.

Lori, hope it was a wonderful anniversary dinner. I love steak, but mine are never as good as they are when I eat out. Yay for new jeans. I got lucky, went to the SPCA sale and someone donated the jeans I like in my size and they were tall. They were in really good shape, and now they are in my closet. I high fived me and yelled SCORE!!!

Judi, glad you got some rain, wish we'd get a bit here, the sky needs a good washing. It's nice to be on a hill. I'm on a hill and my house is up off of the ground a bit. Across the street is much lower and there is a creek that runs along the road. Those houses do get floods, some are built right on the ground.

Flo, I will check out those pictures today. glad they were a hit.

Maryz, you are a mover and a shaker. Not only was the ticket dismissed, you created jobs by having signs installed, yay you. I'm pretty excited about the kitchen redo too. I have way too much storage space, lots of cabinets and drawers are empty. It's just me so I don't need much. If I were a big family, I'd need the space. Glad your heart is good for you. I remember you wearing the monitor and wondered about the outcome, we will wait together to hear your results.

Jana, funny, just the other day a rainbow came up on my phone, there were three side by side and it's what I saw across the street from my house the day Jerry died. My thoughts, since the rainbow is the cause of light refraction (light bending) it has no back. it has a curve like a boomerang. Sorry girlfriend, but that is my thought. I asked AI, and he agrees with me.

Carol, thanks, I like when you pop in. It's good to see you. Your kitchen sounds beautiful. I've been looking at backsplashes too, but will wait.

Maryq, yesterday was just the dentist. Tuesday is my cardio appointment. If money were no issue I'd probably get quartz too, but, I would also feel like I was taking advantage of my dad who is paying for the installation and counters. I'm not a WM fan either but do go there for toys or small appliances and such. Nice of you to make those pencil cases and donate quilts. You're quite a special lady.

The parents will be here in a couple of hours. I need to install that blind and drag out the tote of family photo's. I have photos of people from the 1800's who I have no clue who they are. Dad wants to see them before I toss them. Except for the room I store fabric in I am the opposite of a hoarder.

Dinner will be something with hamburger, not sure what but something.

You all have a super day,
Chriss

Smokey day.

Carol, good to see you. I mostly use ground turkey for a chili recipe and a zucchini lasagna recipe. Can't get it at the tiny store here in Canada.

MaryQ, Thanks for making Poppy blocks for Texas. I have noticed there's a couple other versions of poppy blocks out there. This one is an easy block.

Yesterday turned into a rainy day, so no fishn'. I did some chores, then stitched a few hexi blocks. I decided I would see how long it took to make one poppy block. Iron, cut, sew, iron, sew, etc., took about an hour. Actually a little longer cause I had a machine problem. I had the machine set to end with securing stitches as I did the blanket stitches around hexi flowers. I switched to straight stitch and when I stopped to cut thread, I was off the fabric and it did the securing stitches. I had to get a couple pieces of thread out of the bobbin and plate area. This machine is a learning curve.

I had my fishing clothes on, woke Garry and asked if we were fishing. He said he has a sore throat. So, I changed out of my fishn' pants, they have lots of pockets for stuff, but my jeans on and will sew and do laundry. Dinner will probably be leftovers.

Enjoy your day.
Lyn

Maryq I use organic bread flour for my bread I bake about every 2nd or third day. Sometines the bread goes quickly and sometimes it stays awhile and the end becomes bread crumbs or croutons, I use active yeast and milk for my bread it is soft and yummy. it would be very hard to go back to store bought bread but when we are away from home I usually buy bakery bread it's doable.
Maryz It would be hard for me to start the tshirt quilt and not continue,,,I think I will plan on starting it in January to be done by june when Liam graduates from high school. ( All I see is the 2 year old learning to use a screw driver for the first time with Ken fixing an ice maker) So what ever I get to before january will be the plan...Maybe the christmas quilt will get going,,,who knows.xxxooo

Judi, glad there was no tornado and you're up on a hill. I bought some organic bread flour. Now I just need to make some bread.

Flo, nice the animals were a hit.

Maryz, that camera did pay off. Chicken with onions, peppers, and zucchini sounds yummy. 36 years married, plus the 7 we were together prior. I didn't get my pedicure in so that will happen later in the week.

Jana, is there a backside to a rainbow? I've never got around to the other side. A gate is a great idea for the stairs. Our house in Illinois had a deck with a gate at the top.

Hi Carol, the peaches have been so yummy this year.

Maryq, glad the zippers arrived. I forgot to keep the tracking info. You should have some more in a few days.

Chriss, when I reordered blinds the last time I had to put up new brackets as well. It was a pain. You did score on the jeans. Did you and Judy have a nice outing? I bet she was very happy with her haircut.

Lyn, I turned off the securing stitch feature on my machine. I don't like the way it knots up on the back.

I spent the day with friends. We went to Laguna beach for breakfast with a beautiful view of the Pacific. Then we went to the Sawdust festival. It 's a craft fair where local artisans can sell there wares. Laguna beach is known for it's artists. I bought a pretty ceramic bowl for washing berries and a pair of silver earrings. Dinner was cereal. Our dinner last night was really yummy.

Sleep well my quilty friends.
