Sunday July 20th

Post by grammiequilts » Sun Jul 20, 2025 4:57 am

Good morning friends, it is a sunny day we are into the 80s again today. I have nothing planned I did a lot yesterday baked bread, grocery shopped, cleaned up around the house. Today I will probably go up to menards ( like home depot for those not familiar) I get coupons in the mail and today I have $7 off my purchase, and Ken needs some plumbing fittings for the bar sink in the man cave, Behind the wall of the bar is my storage for Christmas and extra kitchen stuff, He had to bring out a bunch of stuff to get at the plumbing so there is a disaster in the basement, Hoping he gets the behind the wall finished so I can put it all back...AND I might be able to get rid of some of it that I wont ever use. Lots of baking pans and a deep fryer we never use and assorted kitchen gadget I swore I needed and now realize i dont, And again some of the Christmas stuff I have too much of...
I will sew today as the rest of the day permits...
Hope you all have a great day. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Good morning,
It's suppose to be warm here too but that's ok as long as I can stay in the ac I'm ok.
I'm still working on Minecraft the blocks are almost done I will finish that when I can get to the store for black to put in the borders.
Dinner today will be turkey breast there isn't to much of choices because of bills gout problems and lack of what the store has.
Well I'm off to finish getting myself together and having something for breakfast.
Have a great day.
Prayers go out to all.
Lois

Morning
Lori, my birthday is around Thanksgiving. It was the little one I baby's for b-day.
Maryz, I cut bear pieces out of shirts. Then put fusible web on each piece. Then I laid the pieces on muslin, fuse and cut. So i cut each bear 3 times. I am getting 4 bears out of each shirt, for a total 8 bears. Last night I even got faces embroidered out of the 4 I cut out. Next is to figure how small the "pocket" on each bear so I can embroider DFIL name on pocket. His name was Rex, so that should go quickly....I hope.
Church this morning then we stay for a class. Need to get going.

Good morning everyone!

Today is my Bill's birthday. I started to get out everything to make him a cake (it would have been chocolate) except then I remembered his favorite dessert is apple pie. So I put the Kitchenaid back under its cover and made pie dough instead. It's chilling in the fridge and I'll bake the pie later this morning. He's already got his gift - Star Link - and tonite we're going out to dinner. And he has a card waiting for him on his coffee cup for when he wakes up. I'm ready!

JUDI - I would make a comment like, "Men make such messes when they are deep into a project" except I'm just as bad if not worse. However, I clean up my messes when I'm done with said project. Not everybody in our household does that. But this does give you the opportunity to go through everything. I should go through all my Christmas stuff (and all my other stuff, too) but it's so much trouble to dig it all out. So I think I"ll wait until such time as maybe, hopefully, I get to have Christmas at our house again some year. How far along is your quilt? Have you caved in and peeked at your new project yet?

CHRISS - Glad all the pre-op stuff is done. You are really moving along on this thing. I love that you passed that van on the road that said "Trust Jesus". I find that a reassuring omen. I hope you did, too. Happy to hear you've got Moose covered. Can Dad take him to his house if necessary? I would take care of him except - you know - 900 miles and we have no truck. Sounds like you've got the sink thing worked out. We bought our sink from the same outfit that did our countertops. Made things simpler - they brought the sink with them and we didn't have to manhandle it home from the home improvement store. But it probably was more expensive. I love all those fresh fruits you have. Fruit salad would be my choice. I guess I need to go shopping soon. I don't have so much as a raisin here. And I don't trust those weight charts. We are not meant to weigh what we weighed in high school. Especially if we've been pregnant at some point. That changes our metabolism. You are looking good, girlfriend! You've lost 100 pounds! And kept them off! You are inspiring.

MARY Q - sorry you missed Denali. That's what most people go to Alaska to see! I get the feeling that your kids won't be missing Alaska when they move back to MN. Are you settled back in at home now? And have you fired up that sewing machine yet? Pencil cases await! How much fabric did you bring back? And I gave Bill your birthday message. And you are right - I have always thought of our little group here as our guild.

LORI - Our yard care person has always been me. It's just this year - last week in fact - that I finally got some help in. I'm still doing some of it, but "Jacob" can do the heavy lifting from here on out. And he'll come blow leaves while we're gone this winter. You will love your house once it's finished. I think you mentioned you were going to have it painted, too. What colors? All our rooms are different colors - quilting room is pale green (same as living room). Office is pale blue and sewing room is sunny yellow. I'd probably choose the same colors if I redid them now. My kitchen is painted brick red. I would like to change that to white but it's so much work . . . I wonder if Jacob paints . . . .

JANA - did you get your thunderstorm? And did you ever get your latest Kimberbell pattern? Valentine, I think? Bench pillow? Have you made a Christmas bench pillow pattern? And I was thinking - have you ever considered moving your sewing upstairs and your guest room downstairs - to save you having to go up and down so much? I know stairs can be hard some days.

FLO - how did your babysitting day go with two of them? I found sometimes having two or even three was easier because they entertained each other. Seems like it would have been easier to fuse larger pieces of fabric first and then cut pattern pieces out just once. But those bears are going to be special. Are they going to be for grands or greats? I love the idea of embroidering Grandpa's name on them.

LOIS - That Life 360 sounds good to me. Sorry to hear your Bill's still suffering from his gout. I know that can be very painful. My sis has had several run-ins with gout and she had to use a cane to get around and wear big oversized slippers. I hope things are getting better for Bill.

Yesterday I got my haircut - I'll tell you how I like it after I fix it this morning. I also got two 7-1/2" blocks foundation paper pieced for my LOTR tablerunner. For those who know the story, I made "The Ring" and "The Eye of Sauren". Two left to go, but they will be a little more time-consuming. So I'll work on "Gandolf" today, I think. The next block will be "Frodo & Sam". I want this table runner to be no longer than 40". With a frame around each block and a border around them all, I think 4 should do it. When I finish this table runner I'll quilt Baby Clothes.

I got some good news on My Chart - my cardiac monitor showed no problems, issues, or arrythmias. That was good to know. I am scheduled for a comprehensive exam July 30 as a follow-up and I was wondering if I still need that exam. But since the 'wellness exam' that Medicare allows is a bit of a joke I think I'll keep it and see if I can get the works on July 30.

More good news - they are going to start working on our truck this coming week! Hooray! Now that didn't take long at all, did it. Just EIGHT months. To do a $4,500 repair. But you know, insurance companies have a secret business model they don't want customers/clients to know about - "Delay, Deny, Defend". Really. I got this from a retired insurance professional. So spread the word!

Dinner tonite will be out for Bill's birthday. We've invited friends, Tex & Annette, to join us but they often will cancel at the very last minute so we'll see what happens. We may be going just the two of us.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Good morning!

Beautiful day here. We may get the pop up thunderstorm this afternoon. They come and they go, on the whim of their moments.

Church is in a few. I've got 4 easy hymns. Pioneer Day is the 24th, so we are singing Pioneer hymns today and next week. We love the pioneers and what they did for us here, those many years ago.

Stairs we are looking into a chair lift for ours. Sarah's neighbor is a contractor and has a contact for a chair lift. He just installed one at his home for parents that live with him. He gets many used lifts. You see, they are added for a very short time and removed, so we can get one on the cheaper side. A nice thing! And my guest bedroom was a sewing room once, but it is waaay small and my LA wouldn't fit. So the lift is the best optiion. My sewing island where the machine lives, is almost bigger than the guest bedroom. A twin bed fits nicely, but a queen uses the entire space! The builder designed the spare bedrooms for sleeping littles! All the square footage here is for the public areas.

Time to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

A nice day except for the smoke from wildfires west of here. It will be a fishing day.

MaryZ, Happy Birthday to Bill. 🥂

Lois, We've used Life 360 for years. Originally it was to check where Dad was. Now my girls check where I am and I know where they are. Heck, we even have a few friends that keep track of us.

Yesterday I found a wrench that would take the hub cover off. There's oil in the tag axle, but I may need to add some. I took a photo and will send it to the mechanic tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning Girls

Looks like it's going to be a warm one again today! Don't think I'll turn the AC on just yet as I won't be home all afternoon. Long story, but Viv is in town and I'm going to drive her 1/2 way home where Tom will meet us and I can return her to him!

Judi.... Gotta love Menards!!! I buy Best Press there for about 1/2 what it is (was) at Joanns or other places.--- about $5./bottle. I don't get there often so I stock up when I go! Kind of blessing in disguise to have Ken take all the stuff out of the storage room? Or are you really just not in the mood for going through boxes of Christmas stuff. Do you find yourself wanting to do less and less decorating as the years go by?

Lois...Sorry to hear that Bill is in pain with the gout! I've only heard it affecting feet, but did you say it's bothering him somewhere else? What types of food does he have to avoid? I'm guessing high acid things--no tomatoes!?

Flo.... Those must be some big shirts if you can get 4 bears out of each shirt!!! Good thing DFIL had a short name!

Maryz... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BILL!!! StarLink? Isn't that Elon Musks internet thing? Does that make it easier to access internet etc, while you are on the road? I did get things all sorted out to start putting the pencil cases together, but I'm out of the right size of zippers--so I have to wait until Friday to order more (gotta watch credit card bill you know) But I did get all the fabric I bought--probably about 20 yds all together---washed and ironed. GREAT news that your monitor shows no issues!! What a relief that must be! And You'll be able to hit the road as planned!! YIPEEE!!

Jana.... How convenient that will be to have a chair lift!!! My sewing room here is just the 2nd bedroom, but at my house I had the whole family room AND 3 spare bedrooms to store stuff!!! It was awesome! But I sure don't miss the stairs at the house---every time I go visit I don't regret moving to a single level town house!

Lyn.... My neighbor uses Life 360 to keep track of her DH who has dementia and has been known to get lost--he loves to go for walks but sometimes forgets how to get home! My kids can find me on their phones too--but we don't have the 360 App--they just sent up my phone so they can see where they are. I can see where Kris, Evie, Jen and David are, but Shawn won't let me see him   Hope you catch some good fish--enough to fix for supper!!

Lori.... I must have missed it... are you re-doing your house? Such fun, but a lot of work! So many things I'd like to do at my house too--am kind of waiting for Jen & David to move home to help as David is a construction guy! I'd just really like to get rid of my beige counter tops!!!

Chriss.... I'm trying to catch up.... When is your procedure? I'll start now with the prayers and be way ahead of the game when it comes time! I do like to travel, but the best thing ever is coming home!

Guess I better get going--need to pick up Viv in a little while. On the way to meet Tom (he was in Canada fishing and Kris brought Viv up for Brennen's birthday) there is a fabric warehouse--same one I usually go to only South of Minneapolis--(Judi you might have gone to that one when you were here) Not that I NEED anything... but I do need to look for baby quilt fabric for baby boy due in December. Niece I made purple quilt for is having a boy and the theme for the room is MOUNTAINS! How do you make a baby quilt with mountains!!!? I'm going to look for mountain animals etc.

wishing you all the very best the day can bring you!

Maryq -

There's a block pattern - delectable mountains. A fun easy block, usually in two colors. Use that block for a border and go from there.

Good morning. While we shouldn't see triple digits until the end of this month the mid 90's are a reminder that they exist. It's still going to be a overly warm but wonderful day. I'm grateful that we don't have long runs of heat. It sort of gets between 100 and 105 and then backs off.

Something happened to my Saturday, I feel like I completely skipped it. I woke up thinking today was Saturday but it isn't. If one of you took it could you give it back please.

Judi, sounds like that basement will be ready for you to host a big gathering very soon. It will be fun going through the stuff from the closet and getting rid of the excess.

Lois, It's like we're twins. I'm also ok in the A/C. When the temp outside matches the temp inside the house gets closed up and the A/C comes on. It stays on until the sun goes down and I can open the house again. Turkey breast sounds wonderful, and the leftover can be a turkey pot pie.

Flo, that's a lot of bears from one shirt. They really are cool.

Maryz, happy bday to Bill. Yay to you for the my chart results. Glad you are going to keep the upcoming appointment. Who knows when the next available one is. I'm also considering having my yearly weedeating done by someone else next year, it's on the wait and see list. I've had lots of Jesus moments through out the last couple of months that tells me I am going to be fine. Songs on my Christian radio station, verses that are in my email and on Facebook groups, reassuring thoughts in my mind, just lots of things that take away any anxiety or fear. I do wish my heart surgeon appointment was earlier, and after my angiogram on Tuesday I will call the heart surgeon and ask to be put on the call list if they have one, I need the results of the angiogram so I can take them to the heart surgeon. As for now that appointment is on 8/5 and I've survived this long, what's two more weeks.

Jana, A chair lift sounds like a helpful tool. hope it benefits you greatly. My spare rooms are also on the small side. But, it's perfect for me. Sometimes this house is just too big for one person, but when the kids were home it was the right size. Happy hymn singing today.

Lyn, so glad you get to go fishing, wish I could come along. I love that people track me. I have Life360 and a friends daughter can track both me and her mom. I also have find my so I can track the parents and my son can track me.

Maryq, I told my dad about putting an Apple I Tag on my stepmom's walker so it also could be tracked. That might also be something your neighbor could do if her husband uses a walking device, or put it on his key ring or in his wallet? On the 22nd I have an angiogram. On the 24th I see the neuro surgeon. On 7/28 I have my teeth cleaned and on August 5th I see the heart surgeon. After that who knows, ha ha. You could make mountain goats climbing a mountain for your mountain quilt. I like goats and thought about getting some to eat down the weeds here. Dad reminded me that goats poop, and poop smells.

Today my plan is to divide up and freeze some hamburger I bought at Costco, boil some eggs so I can make deviled eggs for dad and perhaps do a couple of loads of laundry, Other than that I have no obligations.

No clue what dinner will be, last night it ended up being watermelon. You girls have a super day

Good almost afternoon ladies.

Judi we are at 65* right now, a bit of a breeze, partly cloudy and supposed to be around 72*. Just my kind of weather. I have nothing planned either and have honestly, except for making sure I ate, have done absolutely nothing! This though is not getting any of my sewing done. I also have lots of stuff I never use. I should get rid of it.

Lois I am still thinking about the D & D pattern that Maryz posted about. When I was working I never would have blinked at a $40 pattern, but now, on SS, I am thinking long and hard. I have no idea about dinner yet, lunch either for that matter.

Flo your bears are so cute. I am sure your recipients love them.

Maryz Happy Birthday to Bill. Where might you go? What will your order? Your insurance company is amazing. When I was hit my insurance company jumped right on it. I infact told them I thought the other persons insurance should cover it, they said I would get it fixed faster is they paid and then went after the other company. So okay, not a problem. By all means, keep that cardiology appointment.

Jana Chair lifts are nice. I had a patient that had one and she let me try it. Yes they are pricey but a used one could be the way to go.

Lyn have you caught anything yet?

Maryq counting down the days. Does your AC cool the house down quickly? If I don't turn mine on early in the day on those hot days, it won't cool anything but the living room and that is if you sit right in front of it.

Chriss glad you won't have triple digits but 90's are still hot. Jesus knows just what you need at any point in time. I have had those moments and it is best to pay attention. Oh the dentist! I go next Thursday for the root canal and the 6th for the crown. I absolutely detest the dentist!

Well I have no plan for today. Yesterday I went to see a live theater show Shrek the Musical. It was wonderful! The son of the quilt shop I go to most of the time played Shrek. He is such a performer. Normlly he is pretty quiet and reserved, very business like but on the stage he is a completely different person. He just amazes me. It was nice to get out and have a bit of entertainment.

Well, If I am going to get anything done before DH gets home, I best get to getting. Have a great day.
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!
