Good morning,

More cold temps here! We are 25* this morning.

VAL - Oh, yes, Texas has winter, complete with snow. As chilly as it is this year, it's still not as cold as in 2022 for a week at Christmastime. 15* then, real temp. Brrrr!!! And in 2021 (the year my sister was here with us and shattered her knee). We all sneaked out of town taking her back to CO in between 2 big storms and the Texas power grid shut down 2 days after we left. Autumn was out of power for 10 days that time, but did enjoy walking in the snow. So yes, winter happens here, too! But we're snapping out of this cold spell soon. We'll be 51* this afternoon. Bill usually goes grocery shopping with me, too, to tote the heavy stuff.

JUDI - how was the birthday dinner? Sorry about the gift cards? How is Val doing? I hope she can come out and play soon. I'm sorry your other son has Covid again. Last year I cleaned my spice cabinet. Wow! I had some 15 yr old items! My walking neighbor and her hubby are on Tumeric, too. They swear by it and, like you, if they stop taking it, immediately notice the aches and pains returning. I've tried it, too, and I think felt better, but we've already established that I am not good about taking pills. So I drifted away. I should go back on it when we get home. Remind me. Did you make any progress on your quilt? I, too, have noticed Mary Q's generous spirit - she freely shares fabric, pencil cases, and more. It's your bad luck that she also shares her frigid weather!

FLO - apple fritters does sound pretty tasty!

JANA - anything that swims IS catfood!! Though, funny, one of my late cats, "Bunny", did not like any pond fruit in her dish at all! "Double ick!", she meowed! So, did you get your borders onto your Christmas quilt?

TINA - sorry you were feeling 'yucky'. Does that mean nauseous? What did you pull out of your chef's hat for Dad's supper last night? Bet he'd like Lyn's pork chops.

MARY Q - yes, Texas gets snow occasionally. Not usually down south in RGV which is 400 miles south of us (Weslaco/Brownsville/Donna area). But it's a big state! In Amarillo, 400 miles north of us, winter can be brutal! Our friend, Tex, is from Amarillo and he hated the cold! I think receiving blankets are the purrfect summer weight blankie for babies. I went through a LOT of them when my littles were little. I used them as blankets, bassinette sheets, Bassinette drapes to enable naptime, draw sheets under their heads in cribs to catch spit ups, night time diapers, nursing shields, and more. So, make those blankets for your nieces! They'll be glad you did!

LYN - If this might be your last Canadian summer I hope you catch a lot of fish. I'm a proponent of catch and release, of course. :D And yes, I'm sure her parents took Amara out in the snow yesterday. She loves being outside. Did you get your tablerunner made? I still have the pot holders you made me years ago. I'm looking at them even as I sit and type this! Love them!

LORI - Yep, this cold snap moved east and I think went all the way along the Gulf coast to FL. I'm sure Jasper got its share! The coldest temp I've ever been in was 45* below zero - in Alaska. But it's a dry cold. Truckers don't shut their engines off for months! My brother has seen it at 75* below, but that is COLD, even for Alaskans. Did you figure out what to do with your yesterday?

We didn't do much for our yesterday. Bill made all the travel arrangements for my sis and me for Alaska in March - plane, car, hotel. He was on his computer all day. He loves computer days like I love sewing days. He did take 10 min to vacuum at my "suggestion". I read, worked on my embroidery, and did a few house uglies. And we took a couple of short walks. This morning we are back on the job with Amara. And every day until we leave on Sunday. I wonder what she thinks when sometimes we're there and sometimes we're not. On Monday we were standing next to her crib when she woke up. Didn't seem to surprise her.

Tonite's supper was going to be spaghetti. Then it morphed into alfredo carbonara. Then I found deli turkey in the fridge that needs to be eaten so now we're having turkey sandwiches. Tomorrow - alfredo.
Stay warm! Hang in there! Only 57 days until spring! 8 weeks and a day.

Morning
Maryz, the baked apple fritters were ok. It's a batter like a muffin...I may just have to make a yeast fritters and fry it....
Tina, I didn't know you had a Fiat. Mine is the 500 pup. I thought it was the smallest.
My friend came over yesterday with her new to her sewing machine. It took me and DDIL a couple hours to get it working. We had to split the case and oil all parts like a repair shop would. None of us, most especially her, have money for that. But we got it all working nice with tension adjusted. I even sent her with 5 inch squares to play with. Last Last night she sent pics of her sewing them. I told her there is more where they came from.
Not sure what today to bring.

Good morning,,I was up early started some laundry I dont have much but it seemed since I am staying home today I should clean the house...floors are dusty and some days I need to do stuff....I might work on the quilt later I just dont get sewing mojo when I see dust and things that need to be done... I brought up a binch of old tax papers that need to be shredded another chore...the ups store wants a dollar a pound to shred it for me and frankly Im too cheap for that,,,my shredder is pretty big and I will shred till it over heats and stops then I move on to something else. I weighed my papers and they are about 20#s worth,,,That is $20 I can spend on quilting stuff so I will shred it myself a little at a time..it cools off and works.
I guess I should get moving I hear the dryer playing it s little toon.....
Flo, I took my machine in to have it cleaned and service ( fis anything that might be worn) and I was $189.00. I have learned with Ken's help to take much of it apart and clean it myself...My Hsvaena Viking is almost 30 yrs old and sometimes sounds like it is going to fall over dead...It doesnt have USB or any modern stuff on it but it will sew through anything,,,Ken says Buy a new machine! but I am emotionally attached to this one...glad you were able to get your friend sewing,,,
MAryz if you were here,,you would be sitting a 5 b below we might climb to a balmy 15 today...just stay in a keep warm...Have fun with Amara today....
Every one have a great day,,,,XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

BRR!!!! Its a little cool today with 5 inches of white stuff. It does look beautiful BUT will stay for a few days. Last night around 9 the boys down the block were running around and sliding on the grass, was nice to watch. (one of those "I remember when moments")
I try to follow each day but the time just flies by.
FLO-good luck with your new car. YAHOO!!!

Joe was supposed to get his monthly infusion but when we went there, his blood work turned up some changes with his creatine level. So we'll have blood taken next Monday and hopefully the count will be okay. He had slight headaches every day but have gotten worse in the past few weeks. Might be caused by a few things-lack of water is one-so now we have a big jug on the counter and he HAS to drink it thru the day. Fingers crossed that this help him and brings down the numbers.

Hope everyone is safe and warm during this odd weather pattern.

Happy Wednesday! 39* which is cold for us. On rare occasion we will dip into the high 20's but that's not often. The sun is out so hoping it's going to warm up. Tomorrow it should be close to 70.

Maryz I think children are able to adapt more than adults. I know with all the GGrands have been through, they seem to adapt. Their speech with the exception of Xavier is still slow. Mine was horrible as a child and I did have speech therapy till about 6th grade I think. Can't quite remember. Funny though I could speak German with no problem. Of course, that was a long time ago and no longer can I speak German. But I do recognize the language when I hear it.

Flo how wonderful for you to help your friend with her new to her machine. The only ones I have out right now are my M7 and M17. The M17 is wonderful. My M7 has skipped stitches since I bought it. I did at one point take it into the shop and they couldn't find anything wrong. So after some research, I bought the Janome blue tip needles. They came yesterday, I put one on and guess what. No skipped stitches for a whole long seam! Funny how a needle can make such a difference. I will have to ask the guy who I got the M17 from about this.

Judy I have shredding to do also but am thinking our recology place shreds it pretty cheap. We currently pay $0.50 a pound through the recycle place. I am working on getting some together. The quilt shop in Vacaville services machines for $119. I have to say I am shocked that California has something cheaper than the rest of the USA! We are still paying $3.69 for gas. My sister in Virginia say she pays under $3. We also pay 68.1 cents per gallon for taxes. I have heard in the past about Tumeric. They had my BIL in las Vegas use it for something on his gums. He has not had any more difficulties. They did tell him though to use a higher grade Tumeric, that the one from Walmart is useless.

Diane hope the blood work turns out better. Yes, dehydration can cause a horrendous headache. I remember trying to get the boys to drink water when we were camping with scouts. Oh my. They just have no time for that.

Well, never got to the grocer yesterday. We have had a huge issue with our alarm company. To make a very long story short, they owe us $1500.00 and maybe more now because they keep screwing up. We have been making payments for equipment that we were not aware of as we were quoted one price and we assumed that was for the monitoring. So after talking to at least 8 people over the past 10 days, we may have finally sorted it all out. I will really have to keep an eye on my account though. I will also be looking for another monitoring company. I wish we didn't need one but our town has turned into a *&^%$ show. That's another long story. The $1500 by the way was them billing us for an account that should have been closed.

Lori I don't have a lot of accuquilt dies but slowly collecting them.

Chriss what's the verdict on Elliot day? Thursday? Friday?

Oh my, my battery is dying. It just doesn't last anymore. May need to see about a new lap top.

Anyway, I best get to getting and plug it in. Have a great day everyone.

Sunny and slowly warming. I looked at our temp sometime in the middle of the night and it was 17°. Just looked at weather and though we'll be in the 50's for a high, we'll still hit below 32° for a couple more nights.

MaryZ, It was sad that y'all had to leave, in 2021, because of your sister's knee, but ya missed a bullet so to speak. I woke up just before our generator started because our power had gone off and batteries had gotten too low. We were at the coast, ran the generator for 3 1/2 days and had extension cord running to our friends 5th to keep their heat and lights on. I do know that this house had power, but neighbor on north side went off and didn't come back on for a few days. They moved into their travel trailer until power was restored.

The weather is crazy. We have friends on the coast of Alabama and she posted snow pictures on FB, and noted they come from Missouri to get away from snow.

Well, yesterday didn't go as I planned. I unearthed a letter from Social Security, that had been sent a long time ago. It said that Garry may have pension benefits that United hasn't paid him. My first call was at 2:24 p.m. trying to find out if he has money owed to him. 3 hours later, 5:35 p.m. I faxed the letter to be reviewed. In those 3 hours, I was on the phone getting bounced around and told to call this number or that. I finally got a man on the phone who told me to fax the letter to a number and give other information. I tried to ask him a question, but he must have been having a bad day, cause he curtly said, do exactly what I told you goodbye. I didn't want to go out in the cold and most places were closed yesterday. Did you know you can fax from your Gmail. So the rest of the time was spent trying to scan the letter. Finally had to uninstall and reinstall printer. Then research how to create the fax, which took getting an app on my laptop. So, nope, no sewing was done. I do know the Gmailed fax went thru, cause I received an email confirmation.

Today will be sewing. Hope everyone has a good day.
Lyn

Valerie, You slipped in as I was typing. My old laptop that I had the virus removed from a year ago, isn't charging the battery. I still need this laptop cause it has the program for my Bernina embroidery on it. I took the battery off the back, easy to do, and found the numbers on it. I ordered a new battery from Amazon and it should be here Friday. You might try that if you don't want to buy a new laptop.

The guys have just showed up to paint.

Good morning!

It's starting to be one of those days! Mr G has two appointments, practically back to back. Different floors, so we should be OK, and he argues that we didn't tell him, so he checks the My Chart schedule, then totally mixes up the times, argues more. Sarah is taking him and I'll pick him up, Humm, maybe just leave him there! No, I'll behave. And now he's fussing over who's driving him and that Sarah can't /doesn't stay for PT. I remind him I'm getting him, and get, you didn't tell me. Calgon take me away!

I did get the quilt measured on all sides , wrote down that and am now ready to cut the sets of borders. There's three, a medium width, then narrow and the final is just a bit wider than the first. I got the laundry done, cleaned the kitchen, ran Yoohoodi and finally mopped half the upstairs. Today I'll finish the other half. Bathrooms will get attention too. Also need a run to the grocery store. Hope to find eggs. Sarah's chickens slow down production in the winter, so I buy eggs.

We are cold, in the low teens, but warm up to about freezing for our high. We have no snow and New Orleans got ten inches, what's wrong with this picture! 😀 we need snow!

Off the finish getting ol' Grumpy out the door for Sarah. He's slower than molasses on the shady side of a iceburg!

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning everyone
This is a zoom through to say hi!
Yesterday was a messed up day, we lost power for several hours and it got so cold in the house but we had to leave to take Jazmyne to work and the car thawed me out. We went back later to get Jazmyne's car started and almost didn't get it to start, Frankie worked on it for 40 minutes, the last before giving up it finally started....it doesn't like the cold.... something about it being fuel injected. Anyway we took her car to her and we took a little drive to warm up and as we were coming back home she called us frantic, water was all over their house inside, the water had frozen and when it thawed out something happened and it flooded their house. So we didn't make it back home till after 4 and Dad just stayed home and ate some stew he made. Our water just froze and I already took a bath and we've been running water.....it was 7° when I took my bath and it wasn't frozen and now we're at 22° and it freezes 🤷🤦
Anyway I'm here but will come back to read later.
Stay warm! I hope you all have a great day! Prayers for all in need 🙏
Tina

Good morning. It's going to be a beautiful day today. We should see 60* the rest of this week and on Saturday get some rain and only see 50.

Yesterday was a busy day. Took a friend to her doctors appointment. She is getting injections, one a month for 7 months that are supposed to stop the progression of alzheimers, it isn't supposed to reverse it but should keep it from getting worse. Its called Kisunla. I really pray it works for her, we have fun together. After the appointment we went to lunch and had fish and chips. I was so full that I didn't need dinner last night.

I won't be having an Elliott day this week. The kids are going back to work and adjusting their schedules. Once they get it figured out Elliott day will resume. I have to admit that a two hour drive each way each week is a lot but I also want to be there. Nope, I won't move there, I like where I live and don't have a house payment here and don't want to live in a town or in a neighborhood. I like it where I am.

Today I plan to do very little housework then sew and maybe not in that order.

Maryz, What did Amara think of the snow? Did you show her how to make vanilla ice cream from it? Funny, you are looking at the pot holders Lyn made you and I, every morning, see the pot holders you made me. I use one as a mat under the coffee container and the other is under the salt and pepper. Lyn did make me a trivit that I also use daily under my dinner plate on top of the place mats that Tina made me. Both Tina and Lyn were my SS. I did it. I bought the Durathon iron you mentioned and I love it. High five.

Maryq, I've also made quite a few of those MSQ self binding baby blankets. Who knew I was so talented? I have two that I have just turned and are waiting for the iron and top stitching.

Judi, I wondered about Tumeric. Last year I quit taking all supplements, my blood work came out as improved. I haven't taken a supplement since and am wondering if I need them. I am going to wait until my blood work at the end of this year to establish a real baseline and go from there. I've also gone through my spice cupboard in the last year. Amazing the duplicates we keep buying. I think it's funny tht you weighed your papers needing shredding. Do you weigh them after they are shredded to see if they are lighter?

Flo, I clean my machine (a Singer) exactly the same way, unscrew the screws and open it up. Mine the bottom plate comes off and makes it easier to get in there to remove lint. It's one of the things that I love about that machine, it's easy to clean without going to the shop. Wehn I worked there was a guy who used to bring me an occasional apple fritter from a certain donut shop on one of his runs. He'd heat it in the microwave and bring it to me nice and warm.

Diane, hope the blood and infususions are back on track soon.

Valerie, I'd like a new lap top too. This one stays plugged in all the time so the battery isn't the issue, it's just so slow in starting up and shutting down. See if you can get a twofer so we can each have one. Glad you are sorting out the alarm stuff. My dad recently upgraded hsi alarm system. He's had one attempted break in and one break in where they took some things out of his garage.

Lyn, hope you get the United stuff straightened out. Jerry had a 401k from when he was a volunteer fireman. I received a letter saying there was a balance and they wanted me to claim it. They couldn't tell me how much the balance was and I had to fill out a form and have it notarized ($20) to get the funds. There was something like $11 in the account when the check arrived I was in the hole. funny. Hope you get lots more than $11.

Jana, breathe in breathe out.

Tina, your day sounds like it came right out of an I Love Lucy episode. my goodness. Sure hope it's all better today. Jaz seems to have a lot of issues with her car.

Dinner tonight will be, are you ready for this, leftover spaghetti sauce poured over some rotisserie leg quarters that I have from Costco with Mozerella and parmasean cheese on top. Chicken Parm. Well maybe a funky version of it.

You all have a great day
