Re: Tuesday jan 7th
Good morning,
Brrrr.... Anyone else chilly? We even have snow predicted for Thursday! We are 28*. My brother in North Pole, Alaska is 34*. Above! What is wrong with this picture??
Yesterday was such a sweet day in Babyland, but then they all are. Plus, our insurance company is on the ball. We had a long recorded interview with them yesterday and they agree with us - get a new fifth-wheel hitch put into the truck. So that is ordered (from Michigan near Judy's house!), it will be here in a week, and Bill has arranged for a 5W hitch place here to receive it and install it for us. They weigh about 250# give or take 50#. This hitch & install is a $3,600 expense so it's a bit of a big deal. Not new sewing machine kind of excitement, but this trailer will be carrying my sewing machine so we don't want any hitch failures to surprise us on the way home! (for the non-RV folks in the crowd, this hitch is about 2 feet square and is bolted into the bed of the pick-up.)
LYN - whenever we're stuck in a similar traffic jam, I always say a prayer for the victims, for the first responders, and a prayer of thanks that we weren't involved in the incident causing the backup. And I try to be patient (a virtue that I wasn't born with). Sorry your cabin finisher had to pull himself off your job. I hope the next person up is skilled, quick, and reliable. How is Minnie doing today?
IRISH - I did warn my quilting class that it can be addicting - and that I'm an addict. And that once addicted, there is no recovery program. Is your carpet coming up today? Just the one room? Are you putting in new carpet or flooring? Oh, and I do remember when you helped to clean out your hoarding friend's house. I eagerly awaited your posts each day to see what treasures you'd unearthed. I was a little bit jealous!
MARY Q - There you are! So I was correct - you DID fall down a squirrel hole! Now that your house is tidied up and the pencil cases are gone, what's next on your agenda? Baby quilt #1? And yes, that is how it will work with the insurance - ours will pay and then they'll go after AAA. After nearly 4 weeks, the AAA agent hasn't even called to ask if we were hurt! And Bill left four messages before giving up on them.
BECCA - I would be staying close to home, too, in your weather! Good thing you have projects and books. Which did you choose?
CHRISS - I knew you could do it! Make the First Kiss block, I mean. It's really a sweet quilt. It's so much more fun to sew something so special! And those clips are wonderful! Much better than pins. I, also, use them (or pins) to mark the side I'm supposed to sew. And when I set items on my machine to sew, I always place the side to sew facing toward the needle. Still - I goof it up from time to time. How did your church meeting go? $20 every 6 weeks or so for trash pickup is a bargain! You are lucky! How are you liking your new car now that you've had it for a few weeks? Have you named it? Our pick-up is BART, our car is Perry, and our tractor is Scout. We name everything.
JANA - good to know you have the capacity to hide two bodies if the need should ever arise. Did your snow arrive? How is Mr. G doing with his PT? This is cardio PT, right?
VALERIE - I checked out your Summer on the Delta. I recall seeing that pattern someplace - maybe for sale on QIAD? You made me think to look and see if I can find videos of my pattern. I can't wait to get started! Saying a prayer for your friend and for her mother.
FLO - you go, Girl!! Replacing a zipper on the first try! You rock!! Not sure I even remember how to put in zippers.
JUDI - I bet your city is roaring with excitement! Do you get it? You see what I did there? Roaring - because your team is The Lions . . . .
I hope Ken has a good eye check. And breakfast out sounds like a lovey luxury. Such good news about Sophia! Miracles do happen! And she's 15? Really??? I remember when she was born! Just how old are we, anyway???
LORI - how is Dad? Are you still working on his house? Did you get any sewing time yesterday?
We are not babysitting today. We usually go in M/W/F. Sometimes a fourth day or a weekend day. Friday is Autumn's birthday. Antonio is trying to figure out what to do. I told him we have appetizers and could bring pizzas. And then babysit longer if they want to go out together, alone. So today, I guess we'll relax. I'll make some more 4" blocks, read, and make a big pot of chili. That will be our supper tonite and I'm starting to make and freeze travel meals (as much as my little freezer can hold, anyway), so this will be a good start. I'll also take stock of what is in the freezer already and make meal and shopping lists.
Stay warm, everyone!

Replacing that zipper gave my DDIL an idea....she has something that needs new zipper....she Saud she's going to have to look for it...is it bad to wish she doesn't find it.....
Bitter cold again here. May play in my sewing room.

It is chilly out.
MaryZ, I thought Minnie was doing Ok, but this morning she had an accident in the house, this rarely happens, and her poop isn't what it should be. I will be making Chili this week, too.
Flo, I will wish with you that she doesn't find it.
Yesterday I got a call that our new glasses were in, so we made a trip to Marble Falls. I put mine on and they are different strength for sure, made me a little queasy. The lady suggested I wait until this morning and try them. So far I seem to be ok. I called the HVAC guy and he gave me the name of the drywaller he uses. That guy is coming by this morning to give me a bid.
Garry's appt to see a Retina specialist is today. So we'll be heading to a suburb of Austin.
I hope you all have a great day.

Good morning!
We are members of the burrrr club too! The wind is blowing and a storm is approaching, but the snow is being persnickity about dropping in on us. A few flakes visit and then disappear quickly.
Yes, Mr G's PT is cardio PT, really called rehabilitation. He's doing well, so the therapists are saying. It wears him out each time, we go, so he gets a nap in the afternoon. Still lots of Dr appointments to deal with. We received a nice surprise in the mail the other day. Got the new cards for our medical insurance from the company we retired from. They changed around some stuff and unbeknownst to us, vision care was added. That is nice! My eye shots were always covered, but now we get glasses too. Until now, glasses were out of our pockets.
The tree is felled, safely. No mishaps in dropping it to the floor. Today it's being hauled downstairs and into it's box. I'm labeling a tote - missed Christmas - for all the little things that I find, after the other totes are packed away. This year I missed a few things! When I felled the tree, I made sure that everything was cleared out of the way. Especially the train!
A bit of sewing sometime today. Sarah bought a new Lori Holt book and needs my templates. Now to find where the set is she'll need. They are put away well!
Enjoy the day! Stay warm!
Hugs,
Jana

Re: Tuesday jan 7th
Good morning. It's going to be a great day today.
The church meeting last night confirmed that they are closing the branch that I was going to. There were less than 20 people attending. The hours and weather played a huge part. While I'm sorry to see it close, I am thankful it was there when I needed it. I can easily go to the main church or watch it on tv. They still want to try to have the lady's group but that will surely fizzle out in time.
The parents will be here today. Dad wants to finish the lighting in my sewing room. He's putting in hanging LED shop lights over my machines. It is so nice to be able to see. I also need to look for a new light kit for the ceiling fan in that room. The fan works fine but the light kit is outdated. I also need a new fixture for my hallway. I'm getting away from regular light bulbs and going LED.
I put the binding on that quilt and will sew it down today. Not sure how much I can sew but hoping that I get some time in. The parents don't get moving too early, and I am on their schedule. I'd really like to get some groceries but that can wait until tomorrow.
Maryq, I have a light like yours, LED with the adjustable paddles. I have one in the garage and one was going to go in my sewing room but the light fixture calls for a smaller bulb. Once the light kit is swapped out that bright light will be in and shinning brightly.
O'Dorothy, how were the cinnamon rolls? I bet your house smelled like a bakery. I don't know why they changed light bulbs. Seems like the old bulbs lasted almost forever. I will start my grocery list today. Did you start yours? My house is also a bit of a jumbled mess, mostly the sewing room.
Lyn, did you get the new drywaller lined up? Hope the job can get started quickly. Is Minnie feeling better? Moose has a gurgly tummy this morning. And he's acting like he has a mouth full of peanut butter. He's been outside easily 5 times this morning.
Judi, breakfast out sounds wonderful. glad your shredding is done and you can move on to the next thing.
Maryz, Chili sounds really good, do you pour yours over hot dogs with chopped onion and cheese, because if you do I may sotp by for dinner. I haven't learned everything my car does yet. I'm needing to go over the book a time or two so I can ask questions at my meeting with the dealer. The man who takes my garbage and is available for odd jobs is a Godsend. He cleaned up grandma's place when she died. He doesn't want to take my money for garbage because he wants to help widow's. He also takes whatever I have to get rid of. So, as I clean out my garage he hauls away the stuff that maybe he can use, or if you need something you call him and perhaps he has it from cleaning up someplace. Glad things are moving along with your hitch.
Flo, You can always wish.
Jana, glad the tree cooperated. and yay for the eye insurance. very cool.
Today will be a play it by ear day. I guess I could put a load in the wash and get my grocery list made. And after reading that MZ was having chili I think I may do the same. Mine will be from a can and include hot dogs.
You all have a super duper day
Chriss

Good morning everyone
We are cold, brrrrrr but I'm happy we have a chance of snow.
Dad's birthday was yesterday, 86. I did his birthday the 5th on my night, I made him a tbone steak and a baked potato and I made him a coconut cream pie, his favorite. He had his scans and blood work the other day for his appointment on the 16th.
I have to scoot, we're getting Dad groceries in a little bit and I need to start the laundry. My foot is still the same but I just try to do what I can. I'm making me some Valentine's placemats for my table.
I'm making chili soup for supper.
You all have a great day!
Prayers for all in need
Tina

Re: Tuesday jan 7th
Good Morning Girls
Now where did the sunshine go!!! None here. But as typical MN winter weather, with clouds the temp warms up--we'll hit 27* today!
Judi.... I'm with you, any excuse to go out for breakfast!! Though I think I'd pass on the oatmeal and go for a nice ham cheese omelet! Do you have Perkins restaurants out there? They make a great omelet with ham and turkey and covered it in hollandaise sauce!
Maryz... So glad you are able to make some progress on getting your repairs made!! I'm thinking those AAA agents really dropped the ball, which is a shame and does not bode well for them!! You'll be able to get the hitch all fixed up before you head for home? That will give you some peace of mind traveling to know that the hitch is all good! I started on baby boy quilt a little yesterday. I had to order one more piece of the Boots & Blooms fabric for the baby girl quilt and will probably end up working on the simultaneously, just because I have ADD and get bored very easily!! I always say I'm surprised I stayed married as long as I did--getting bored quickly!
Flo.... I had to chuckle.... I hope DDIL can't find her thing that needs a zipper!! Replacing zippers is not at all on my list of fun things to do!
Lyn.... Gosh, you'll be south of Austin? too bad you can't meet Maryz 1/2 way !!
Jana... Glad you were able to get the tree down with no catastrophic events!
My new insurance plan for this year has a benefit for eye glasses too! I was surprised--it's not much but it will help as glasses have gotten so darn expensive! I get my eyes checked in a couple weeks and have been contemplating getting new glasses, but I only do if my Rx changes.
Chriss... What a great idea having those lights over your machine!!! I'd love to change up a few light fixtures around my house--one of those things I'd have to save up for. But I never thought about putting them right over the machine like that!
Tina... That is the goofiest thing.. You and Maryz have snow in your forecast and we have NONE. The little bit of snow we had is all melted and I don't see any more on the way for another week or so! It's ok by me, tho as I hate driving in it!
Not sure what the plan of the day is here today. I need to run to the Post Office and might stop in the Dollar Tree since it's right next door!
Then maybe I'll play with baby boy quilt. I'm actually doing some Delectable Mountains blocks and once I get the blocks done and laid out I'll decide if that's really the way I want to go.
For now I need more coffee and a shower..... in that order!
Wishing you all A Terrific Tuesday!!

Re: Tuesday jan 7th
Good morning quilting world! Well got everything paid for yesterday. She let me sign up for the class and actually gave it to me free! and a bag of bobbins to go with it. So that was really nice. It is 3 Mondays starting Feb 24.
Lyn so sad that people can't slow down in inclement weather. We had some bad weather here also that ended in a couple of fatal traffic accidents. Sorry about the handyman but I guess if he's having health problems it might be better that he stepped away.
Irish my house is also "really a mess" but until the new machine comes not a lot I am going to do about it. It is currently scheduled for Friday mid afternoon. Are the cinnamon rolls ready, I can be there in about a week for them.
Maryq the machine comes with 1230 built in designs so not sure why I would have to by any. It comes with 5 hoops, the smallest is 4 x 4 and the largest is 11.3 x 18.2. I think the biggest expense will be the thread. I am anxious to get started but a bit scared too.
Becca I think staying in and staying warm is good plan
Chriss not sure I know what a Kiss quilt is? I guess I have to be more plain in my rooms. I have had a sewing room for a while now. The third room has a twin bed that was Dad's and Josiah's toddler bed. I have my grandma's cedar chest and the kids toys. Too often parents these days show up with no toys and expect the kids to just sit there, yeah that's not going to happen. So my original sewing room will stay my sewing room with two machines set up. My M7 and M17. What I will move is my cutting table to I am not sure where yet. My design wall takes up the largest wall in that room so space lost there. I have fabric also in both rooms. Once the machines are set up I will plan out the rest.
No one at the quilt shop has heard from my friend. I really don't want to text her and ask if Mom is still alive. I know her brothers were coming in. It can be really upsetting to a family when the dying process is weeks long but it does happen. She has never been married that I know of and has no children so limited family support.
Well I best get ready for work. I do have one patient to see today at 11 in Napa. Need to also pick up a bit as my daughter and her friend are stopping by today. She wants me to drive down to where she works tomorrow so she can take me to a quilt shop. It's almost 2 hours and DH is off work so we will see.
Have a great day everyone.

Re: Tuesday jan 7th
Judi, breakfast out is my favorite. Glad Ken's eye is okay.
Maryz, Glad you are getting the 5th wheel hitch replaced. You don't want to mess around with that at all. I can't believe it's almost time for you to head out again. Glad you had fun with the baby.
Lyn, our golden has had not so good poop lately. Bill's going to take him to the vet to see what's up. Other than that he seems fine. If only they could talk.
Chriss, sorry about your church. Things fall into place when you least expect them. I'm still waiting. I like lots of light, but overhead lights bother my eyes, so I tend to go with lamps. Maybe there's a dog flu going around.
Tina, Happy belated birthday to your dad. Steak and potatoes are always a good choice for dinner.
Maryq, I'm sure you'll find many things you need to work on today, and get them all done. My sunshine is hiding too.
Valerie, how wonderful to get a free class and bobbins too. My house is messy too. I need to put things away. I have a tendency to leave things in open spaces on tables.
Dad has had 3 bad days. He looks like he's lost a lot of weight and his color isn't good. The home health nurse will be out today to see him. I spent a good part of yesterday dealing with dad things.
I was able to go to my line dancing class last night though. I think we finally found a good teacher at a neighboring city community center. It's on Mondays from 7-8pm. Gets me out of the house and moving around instead of sitting. I think I'll pick up and put things away this morning before I go to see dad.
Bill's playing golf, so we'll do a late lunch. Don't know what yet.
Have a lovely day.
