WEDNESDAY, January 1st, 2025!

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Jan 01, 2025 5:27 am

Happy New Year to everyone!

I hope 2025 is a peaceful, happy, and healthy year for us all. (Judi, are you listening??)

We went to bed about 9:15 but we may as well have stayed up until 1am because that's when the fireworks finally stopped after 7 hours. Our dog fussed, whined, panted, pawed, scratched, and trembled for every minute of those 7 hours! We gave him two doses of doggy pain pills left from a surgery he had two years ago because the bottle said it would make him drowsy. But nope. I finally lifted him up onto our bed so he could fuss and pant in our faces. Nothing helped. He had a miserable might and so did I and the cat. Not so Bill. He sleeps through most everything. So happy New Year. I believe I'll have whiskey for breakfast.

JANA - your skiing adventure was pretty memorable. I'm glad you didn't make that side trip to Cuba! Happy birthday to Ethan! He's officially a teenager now! My niece, Carmen, is officially in her 60's as of today. We have 5 more family birthdays this month, among them Autumn on the 10th, who shared a birthday with my dad and our sheltie of that era, Shamrock. It's a party month for us!

DIANE - nice to see you! How is your hubby? Did all your family gather for the holidays?

VALERIE - When you told us about your BIL leaving I think it was Chriss, maybe, that mentioned the song, "Thank God and Greyhouse He's Gone". Now that song has been running through my head for a week!! I don't think his new set up is going to work either, but I hope he's clear that he can't come back to your house! I'm so happy you got to get in some quality sewing time. I know you like going to the shop sewing events.

FLO - Now I have a new song in my head - "Rollin' Rollin' Rollin', keep that dog from Rollin'". lol! Sorry. He really did a good job, didn't he.

MARY Q - yay for your car being home again! And in just a short five weeks since your accident! And you even made your hair appointment! It's going to be a long time before our truck gets fixed. And my hair appt came and went without me. I bought some "jeweled" bobby pins yesterday hoping I can use them to corral my frizzy shaggy tresses. I think we need to wash our sheets and pillow cases again today. Once the fireworks stopped Scottie really snuggled in with us. And he needs to be laundered, too! But we'll start with the sheets.

LYN - I meant to say thank you for thinking of us! That was a cute idea for a fun activity. I'm going to share it with Mom & Dad, too. And you are right - I don't do Messenger. I barely do Facebook. Enjoy your beading. A much smaller hobby to cart along for sure than quilting! And you get to use all those cute little containers! :D

CHRISS - we have the same clothesline - 5 lines? I use it all the time in the summer. It's great for drying new fabrics that I've run through the washer, as well as laundry, rugs, etc. Sounds like you have another item you can add to Dad's list. I get the feeling he's looking for things to keep him at your house. Once you get those lightbulbs all replaced with LED's, if it's too bright, you can also put "add dimmer switches" to Dad's list. He will thank you, I bet!

JUDI - such a relief that the eye surgeon was able to remove that tiny shard from Ken's eye! You two just had to take your medical adventures right to the bitter end of the year, didn't you! Hoping 2025 is much healthier for you both! Did you finish getting Christmas put back in the box yet?

LOIS - I loved HL for decor items, especially Christmas. But the HL in Tacoma closed this year. I didn't go often, but when I did, it was fun! A visual barrage of tons of neat stuff and I wanted it all! In a way, I'm almost glad it's gone.

LORI - Sounds like Dad is making good, if slow progress. Your tablerunner is beautiful! I think I saw that pattern somewhere before. Your sis will love it. Sorry about the hot water heater. It seems like within this group, we move as one - One year several of us replaced fridges, another year it was dishwashers, some years we have weddings or new babies or new joints. I hope you're not setting this year's trend! I'll look for that box of fabric when we get home from Amara's tomorrow, which will be about 4pm. And yes, I've done about 8 projects since we've been here, but they have all been small ones that go pretty quickly. Today I'm going to set BeWitched aside and get out everything for my class and review that project.

Yesterday I got all nine 13" BeWitchrd (hats) blocks finished. Now there are twelve 6" stars for the borders. I'll cut those out today but won't get them sewn for a bit. This is my last free day until my class on Sat and I want to do some reviewing and make some notes. Kids originally asked us to babysit today and not one of us remembered that it was going to be New Year's Day. When we did, they changed babysitting to Thurs and Fri, with class on Sat starting at 10am at the Laura Bush Library. So today will be a mix of sewing, studying, and sheet washing.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

We too were kept awake by fireworks. My brain sometimes forgets that fireworks are legal here on New Year's. So they went off, starting as soon as it was dark. Not as bad as the 4th of July, but close!

I have stuffed Christmas back into it's boxes. Just waiting for my boys to haul it down. They were busy working yesterday and today is the in law side of Sarah's family, Christmas get together. That's usually done on the 26th, but Sarah and Joseph were on their way to a funeral. So tomorrow it will be put away!

My new toy, a automatic dust pan arrived and I'll be putting it to use! This new dust pan loves to eat crumbly bumbly and especially dust bunnies!

Cold outside and it's a brown winter, no snow on me here. We have no PT today, so we'll stay home and stay warm!

Enjoy the start of a New Year's, a new page turn in our lives,. May we find joy, share joy, and bring smiles. It will be a great year of memories, old and for making new memories.

Hugs,
Jana

Happy New Year to All Y'all.

MaryZ, How many signed up for your class? Did they find a way to hang all your quilts?

We were in bed by 11 and I even fell asleep with the fireworks going off.

I need to get moving, have to get Minnie fed and walked before I go bead.

Hope the New Year is the best one yet for all.
Lyn

Good morning Girls

Looks like the new year came without me! I just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer! Made it until about 10:30 while reading a book and that was it! (By the way, it is a really good book--"The Women" by Kristen Hannah--if you get a chance to read it DO!)

Maryz.... Yes it is wonderful to have my own car back in my garage--though I have no place I need to go, it's nice to know it's here. They did a really nice job getting it all fixed up! Will you be able to make a new appointment to get your hair done? I'm looking forward to hearing about your class and how much the ladies enjoy it!!

Flo.... Are you a Star Trek Fan? Warp Speed? I remember when that show first aired on TV--I was in college and had a crush on Captain Kirk. New Years Day is a perfect day to just chill out, especially since you're starting it all with clean carpet and laundry!

Judi,.... SO glad they were able to get the piece of metal out of Ken's eye!! Abx eye drops for a few days I'm sure. If I was smart I would have done the same thing when I packed up Christmas---purged and donated what I probably won't use! If it weren't so cold in the garage it would be the perfect place to organize! Shawn and Bren brought over their stuff yesterday and got all theirs and mine back in the attic! Hopefully the Salvation Army will take your donations--some places won't this time of year.

Katy... Happy New Year to you too! I was going to try to stay awake. Part of the reason I went to bed early.... the lights by my couch are on a timer and they went off at 10:15 and Alexa wouldn't turn them back on for me!  Maybe now that the new year is here you will get your mo-jo back!!

Lois.... A turkey breast in the oven? I'll bring the cranberry sauce!! Gosh that sounds good! I just might have to put that on my grocery list for next week.

Jana.... An automatic dustpan? I might have to check that out! I'm just thrilled I found one with a long handle so that I don't have to bend over to collect the dust.

Lyn.... That's right ... you do beading too. Are you going to have a special beading area set up in your she-shed? Every time I go to Joann or HL and see all the pretty beads, well let's just say I have to quickly drag myself away---I do love anything that sparkles and I don't have one square inch in my house for any more craft supplies!

Denise... SO wonderful to see you!! I hope you can stop by from time to time!

Chriss.. Happy Birthday to your Dad!!! Did you bake him a cake? The unfortunate thing about the kit Viv gave is that it doesn't have a pattern!!! I'm in the process of washing all the fabric now. This Fabric warehouse gets these kits from "Boundless" fabric --which I don't think is in business or was bought by Crafty, so there's no pattern. Most of the pieces are 12-18" but there's a couple good size pieces of 1-2yd. One of the quilts I just finished putting the binding on last night was one of these kits, but that one had a pattern.

I now have 4 of the 6 quilts Viv brought me all bound. I'll go post some pictures of these for now and as soon as I finish the other 2 I'll post them too. Today I think I'll be kind of puttsing around. Need to shine up the kitchen first, then I may place with some more idiot squares. I should probably go clean up the sewing room so I can start the year out fresh. I have a few quilts to do this year--- a baby girl, a baby boy and a wedding! The baby girl quilt is going to be from a line of fabric called "Boots and Blooms" KC left behind some of it and I found some pieces on Etsy. So google it if you want to see. Not sure about baby boy or wedding. I have until October for wedding. Two babies in May.

Time for more coffee!

Wishing you a most wonderful New Years Day and a most happy and healthy year ahead!

Happy New Year everyone! Today is class one of BOM to learn to use the Go Cutter effectively. There is a pattern Accuquilt made thatwe will be making. It is a 12 month class. I am packed and ready to go but it doesn't start until 1:30. I was going to work on my Radiance quilt BOM but have misplaced my directions. I have emailed the shop to see if they can email me month 5. I am also working on Windsong it has hit a snag. The shop switched credit card readers or something so shipping was behind by a couple of months, and now my current month is lost in the mail. So much for schedules.

Maryz I have seen that pattern and it is really cute. I thought about making it and then said, silly girl! You have more than you can handle now! Oh forgot about the sheet washing, mine can wait till tomorrow. LOL, Jingle Bells has been floating around in my head for a few years now. I have no idea why but it won't go away. As for BIL, I suspect in time his daughter will take him back but who knows. I don't know the whole story of why that situation blew up but I can imagine. I have never actually met his daughter so really know nothing about her. She is married and has a little girl but that is all I know. Poor dog, I feel so bad for them and Veterans. People really need to think about these things but they don't.

Flo warp speed? Boy I don't think I can do warp speed anymore. Yes, you deserve some off time.

Judi we did not have sausage gravy and biscuits growing up so I have never liked them. We did not have gravy at all for that matter except at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mom didn't make it and I don't remember my Grandma ever making it either. And gravy on open face sandwiches, oh no no no. Soggy bread not for me!

Katy no booze for me either, it just burns going down. Even wine. And that keeps me out of the pokey!

Lois DH is working till 7 tonight so dinner by myself. I am planning to put a game hen in the crock pot while I am at my class. That will be good for me.

Jana what in the dickens is an automatic dust pan? Did I miss something? We had plenty of fireworks here but they are illegal. Cops won't do anything. If you go to Click Fix (an app) and post a picture will details such as address, pic of fireworks, etc they will send a citation in the mail. Okay, someone sees you doing all that and they will shoot you, this is Vallejo. So we just have to put up with it.

Hey Denise Good to see you, Happy New year to you!

Lyn I was in bed by 8:30. I just cannot do late night.

Maryq good to hear your car is back where it belongs. Who is having babies and who is getting married? I thought your kids were already spoken for? So fun to plan though.

Well I should do a few chores before I have to leave and drag the small crock pot out. I will probably need a good scrubbing before I use it.

"Long may your chimney smoke".
A Friend is God's way of making sure we never walk alone!
