SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 22nd
Good morning,
It's chilly at 56* out on the deck but fortunately I was able to find a quilt to snuggle under while I visit with you! lol!
Yesterday was busy. But then all my days are busy. I walk every morning with my neighbor. Then I finished my tote bag, worked in the yard for 4-1/2 hrs, and came in, showered, and finished my barn block. We'll let it sit for a few days to completely dry and then Bill is going to put a clear coating on it and hang it on the house, location still to be determined. I'll post a photo when that happens so I can share a picture of it hanging, too. Today is going to be morning yardwork and afternoon house work. Company coming tomorrow and the house is in serious need of dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and any other -ing I can think of.
CAROL - I posted the link to the playset tutorial in yesterday's Supper Club. But you can just Google Silent Night Nativity PLayset Tutorial and it comes right up. Misty from MSQC does the video. The only other fabric you need is whatever you choose to back the characters. They suggest white felt and I happened to have a large piece of that. But you could use whatever you want. I think the idea is something that will cling to the felt of the playmat, but really - you could use anything. Flannel, perhaps? And I don't see why all the figures have to be backed with the same fabric . . . I'm glad LA passed the acid test of the storm. Though the news we're getting looks pretty devastating in some areas. But no loss of life.
TINA - I didn't realize you even had deer where you live, though you're close to Texas and they are everywhere in TX. Duh, me! No, olive trees live outside. It's like a fruit tree, though since we put it in a container, albeit a big container, it won't get terribly big. And I doubt we'll ever get olives on it. but it's a neat thing to have and we saved it for Vicki's sake. I signed up for SS!
LORI - glad you didn't feel the full possible effects of that storm. It's probably difficult for forecasters to be totally accurate, but better to be over-prepared than under prepared. Parts of WA may get a little rain from the remnants of the storm. Hopefully no wind though. We already have 27 fires in WA and wind doesn't help. Your quilts are adorable!
BECCA - I'll share a photo soon - hopefully by the weekend. My barn block is now in Bill's hands. Sorry you have to have a crown. When I have to have dental work done, I take an audio book with me to listen to (with ear buds!). I concentrate on the story which gives me something to think about besides the fact that I'm in the dentist chair. And it also helps to drown out the noise.
Maybe we'll have orange chicken for supper tonite. I bought some regular chicken nuggets at Costco and sauce at Fred Meyer instead of the prepared Orange chicken in a box. We'll compare . . . And a salad on the side. I'm letting Bill do the grocery shopping this morning since he has an early breakfast date with Tex, and will be practically next door to Freddy's. It's only about a dozen items, but we'll see how he is at selecting produce . . .
What are you selecting for your supper tonite?

Good Morning,
Maryz - Thanks for the information about the video. I appreciate it. I will need to get some felt I think.
Rain totals for the storm vary on the area. One area was reporting almost 12 inches of rain. We had 2.6 inches according to the paper with a season total of 26.44 inches and normal season of 12.14 inches. The new season begins October 1st. The paper is now reporting that one person is missing.
Tina - We have small animals that eat from our trees. They get into our pomegranates, avocados and figs. I really do not know what to do with the figs. They are on the tree now, but I don't know when they are ripe so do not pick them. Then the animals eat them and they are all gone. Oh well!
Becca - I think you will learn which meals you like and your dinners will be more to your liking.
Yesterday I worked outside a bit, dusted a bit, did a load of clothes, washed dishes, made lunch, ironed, went to the gym and fixed dinner. Did I say I got up late? I feel like I did not accomplish a lot. The house does look better. I think I will stay in my sewing room today, except I need to go to the gym, the farmer's market and Costco.
Dinner will be a Farro and Barley meal.
Carol

Good morning all
Mary, yep we have tons of deer and they are very fat LOL they look extremely healthy. We had a herd of 30 at one time come through, I love to see them. Plus we have bobats, cougars, javelinas, raccoons, an occasional bear, coyotes, coatimundi, fox, ring tail fox of coarse skunks and roadrunners LOL They are pretty much all frequent visitors. We live right where their roaming paths are. The cougars didn't use to come down this far because there's plenty of Ibex right there on the mountains in front of my house, about a 20 minute drive.
I had a thought about those nativity playsets.... if you want them stiffer you could cut a piece of those thin flexible cutting mats we use in the bottom of totes? That would make them stiffer but not add much bulk and it would be safe because that piece would be sewn inside.. . Just a thought.
I got you on the list for SS, thanks for signing up
When I make orange chicken I use Foster Farms popcorn chicken and then use Panda Express Orange Sauce on it.
I hope Bill does a good job shopping.
Carol, wow you got a really nice amount of rain! I need just that amount too!
You were very busy yesterday! I didn't get my stuff put away in my sewing room but that's on my list today.
Becca, I hope your dentist appointment goes well.
Tonight is an FFA potluck dinner that Jazmyne wants us to go with her to so that's what's for supper for us.

Mary, the news coverage for the storm was insane. My dad called me 10 times because he thought the power would go off, and they would flood. They have a backup generator, and they live up a little hill. So neither of the things would happen anyway. I told him to turn off the news. Plus, I'm right down the street. I hope you get some rain for help with the fires.
Carol, the deserts and mountains we're hit the hardest. They always are when a big storm comes through.
Tina, I like deer, but they are destructive. I bet 30 was a site to see. My son is moving to Jasper TX. He bought a place with 3 acres. I bet there are deer there.
I'm going to finish up that quilt top today. I got all the blocks sewn and squared up.
We'll do late lunch today, so no dinner.
Have a lovely day.
