SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Aug 21

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Aug 21, 2023 8:12 am

Good morning,

It's chilly here this morning but I still spent time on the deck with my coffee because deck mornings will come to an end before too long. I treasure what I have while I have it.

Yesterday was filled with so many things - laundry, sewing, yardwork, painting and helping Bill with stuff, among his stuff was replanting our olive tree from a medium pot into a huge pot. It used to be Vicki's and she never potted it all but left it in the paper pot. The kids told us we could have it. It's grown 2 feet since we got it in early June. Then our early evening was spent watching the coyote. He looks sick or injured so we were finally able to reach a Fish & Wildlife vet who lives only about 3 miles from us. He came right over but then we couldn't find him even though he had been lounging on our grass for over an hour at the time we called. We haven't seen him this morning, but Scottie is on guard - from the safety of our high gated deck - and isn't barking so I think he moved on during the night.

Today - will be a little more sewing, a lot more yard work, and more painting. I'm almost done with my barn block. Not sure where it's going yet, but it's taken me 3 yrs to get to this point so there's probably no rush - or maybe there is. Bill's motto in life when accused of procrastination is "Speed Kills". His current project is repainting our little wooden rocking horse. It's going to take him a lot longer than my project is taking me. And no worries about leaded paint. No paints these days contain lead, or so said the paint guy at ACE. And we're both using new paint.

TINA - you had a full to the brim weekend! And it looks like your quilting callendar is going to be full up for years to come! :D I love having a list of projects to do and even more I love being asked to make quilts! I'm just now finishing up the very last project here. And that project was a sudden decision to make a special tote bag for my Nativity Playset that will keep it and the extra pieces I cant fit into its' pockets all corralled together. I even found just enough Nativity fabric to use for it! Good thing I'm at the end of my list, though. My yard and housework are so far behind. So they will be getting my attention for a while now.

LORI - sorry the jelly roll is so bland. No way to slip in a coordinating fabric with a bit more zing? Perhaps in a border? I'm wondering how it's going at your house with the storm.

BECCA - so sorry for the trouble making neighbor that your old neighbors are having to deal with. Troublesome neighbors can make life miserable. Quilting does take up room. And then your stash grows and you need even more room. And I believe you told us you only have a 1-bedroom apartment.

Our supper last night was pretty good and we have some left for tonite. So no cooking here! I'm good with that! Just heat'n'eat.

What's cookin' at your house?

Good Morning,

It rained all day yesterday. The newspaper is reporting 1.25 inches of rain as of 5 PM yesterday. It rained more last night. It was windy but not severe for us. I am glad that Los Angeles prepared for a major event. There were no fatalities. There were many traffic accidents reported and a few rescues from people going into flooded intersections. A few trees fell onto houses and cars too but none in my neighborhood. I think it was a good exercise in being prepared for an emergency and Los Angeles passed the test with flying colors!

Maryz - Sorry to hear the coyote is injured. Hope F&W can capture and get the coyote healthy again. I ordered the Silent Night Felt Nativity Activity Set Fabric Panel and am wondering if I need any other fabric.
I did not have any luck finding anything about it on MSQC. I am like you and need to concentrate on a bit of housework today. I will go to the gym today though.

We have lots of tomatoes so maybe I should make the Garden Vegetable Spaghetti and a green salad. Sounds very good!

Good morning all 🌞🌞
Mary, I wish I could say it's chilly here! We only got down to 73° last night. At midnight it was still 88° Have I told you that I'm soooooooo ready for Fall? 🤪
We have been having deer every night in the garden LOL they are hopping the fence and eating the trees in there. There's no fruit on the trees this year but I still don't want them eaten. But I love them visiting, Frankie likes to see them walk through but either them or a coyote ate a bite out of a watermelon night before last and Frankie was upset about that. He also has those giant pumpkins growing for the grands.
Is the olive tree an inside tree? Sounds like it's happy at your house for sure!
I hope F&W gets the coyote and he's not carrying anything that could harm your animals.
LOL I can tell you that my brain "thinks" I can sew faster than body does. If I could sit for hours at a time I'd be able to get a lot accomplished for sure! I could share my daughter with you all LOL anybody want to have joint custody of her?
Carol, I'm glad you're ok, I hope you don't get flooded. That's good LA had a plan.
I posted Secret Santa a little while ago!
Holly has requested that I make her chile rellenos tonight so that's what I'm making and I put a crockpot of beans on because Preston doesn't eat rellenos and I'll make spanish rice too. I may make a dessert but I'll decide later today about that.... I'm thinking strawberry crepes.

Tina, critters are very destructive to fruit and veggie gardens. I've seen some gardens that are completely enclosed and there is also fencing under the soil. Bummer about the watermelon.

Mary, sounds like the tree is happy to have someone take care of it. Olive trees are a bit messy for me. There are quite a few around our area. Glad your barn block is almost done. My it will motivate me to make one. I like Bill's motto about procrastination.

Carol. We got just over 2 inches of rain. And it rained for about 30 hours here. Sometime light, sometimes hard. The wind didn't kick up until after 7 pm.

I posted pictures of my little quilts I finished last week. They are so much fun to make.

We'll the big storm wasn't as big as predicted. Once it hits the cool waters off the Pacific it petered out. We still got rain though. All the plants and weeds are very happy. I worked on the Jellyroll Twist yesterday. Got about 36 blocks finished. Will try and finish them up today.

Dinner will be ground beef tacos, unless I change my mind. It happens.

Have a lovely day.

CAROL - I just typed Silent Night Nativity Playset Tutorial into my search engine and up came Misty from Missouri Star doing the tutorial.

I used white felt to back my characters. I just happened to have a lot of it, but you could use any color felt or even leftover flannel scraps I would think.
