SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Aug 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Aug 05, 2023 5:53 am

Good morning,

We just might have a drizzly day today! Crossing fingers it's so! We desperately need rain. I'm out on the deck and it's pitch dark - no stars or moon visible so it must be cloudy. We've had a purrfect summer this year in the Puget Sound area with the only 2 hours of rain, 3 weeks ago. And now this weekend is Seattle's Seafair celebration and the Blue Angels are in town to put on a show. But with stormy weather in the weekend forecast, they may not fly. So, while everyone wants rain, we want it on Monday, if Mother Nature would be so accomodating.

Yesterday was relaxing. I did two turns on the dancefloor with Mr. Maytag, and then started quilting my wallhanging of the Northern Lights with a moose in the foreground and a moonlit lake. I'm doing it on my Bernie and so far it's coming out really nice, but will take me a few days. Bill is quilting Catholes. This will also take him a few days. This morning we have grocery shopping, sewing, then at 3pm a Zoom meeting with Amara and her parents! Can't wait! And at 4pm, friends are coming over for snacks and wine.

Our friend, Annette, who, in my memory of 34 years hasn't ever completed a single quilt except for one rag quilt some years back, has decided she wants to make all their kids quilts for Christmas. That would be 8 quilts as she and Tex have 8 kids between them. She's always had big plans, buys lots of fabric, has 5 machines, a big portable design wall, and last year bought a Koala sewing center. Bill told her he will quilt her quilts for her, but to do that, she HAS to have them done by end of October because we are leaving for TX Nov 4. This is going to get interesting. If she asks me, I will help her, but I'm sure she wants to do this herself. Back in 2015 she asked me to help her make a tablerunner for her DIL's birthday. I got her started and she still hasn't finished it.

CAROL - What? No sewing? That's a rare day around here! But sometimes, a welcome one. So, is your farro, squash, and kale all together in one dish? I'm curious. Any developments regarding the pool down the street?

BECCA - I've see brown, red, black, and gray squirrels, but never white ones. I'm sure she is too quick to get a photo, but I'm going to look up white squirrels. I wonder what color the babies will be. . . And don't think I haven't noticed you slipping banned food into your supper now and then! But since you aren't doing your own cooking, I guess we'll have to give you special dispensation.

LORI - We have both brown and gray squirrels in our yard, though the grays are much bigger and I think have chased most of the browns out. I believe the grays are an invasive species, but no one is going to force them back to whereever they came from! They are ruling the yard! Are your boys lookin' fine today with their new "do's"? Scottie has an appt at the end of the month. He needs it. His coat, at 7" long, is puffing out and he almost looks like a big furry bowling ball! lol! It needs thinning and trimming. I hope when you get all your prep work done, the project is more fun.

Tonite's supper is going to be whatever snacks we come up with for happy hour. Doyle and Susie are bringing pinwheel sandwiches. I'll put out some veggies/dip, nuts, olives, Boursin cheese & crackers. And I'm going to make individual cherry tarts with a crumble topping and a dash of whipped cream. So that's our menu.

What's your menu looking like?

I looked up White Squirrels. They are very uncommon but Brevard, NC is known for their white squirrels and people travel there to see them. Supposedly they are a color variation of the eastern gray squirrel and you can buy one for around $1,000, but you have to get in line. Seeing a white squirrel is considered good luck, because they are so uncommon, it's good luck if you happen to spot one! So, Becca, you are in for a lot of good luck!

Good Morning,

Maryz - Yes, the farro, kale and butternut squash come in a mix. I am still sorting out how to do this Mediterranean best so having a mix makes things a lot easier. It is nice to have things in the freezer too.

The pool has been taken down. The other evening the lady came to my front door and asked what my concern was about the pool. I told her it was someone drowning. She said I could have told her directly. I told her I wasn't comfortable doing that. She knew my name. I told her I had asked that the "complaint" remain anonymous. She now does understand it is against building code to have a pool that is not fenced in your front yard.

I will be sewing this afternoon. At least cutting fabric. I am making a back for my Halloween quilt. Did you see the book on sale at QIAD the other day on backs? I bought it and then saw it in the new AQS magazine. It should arrive Monday or Tuesday.

Becca - I am glad Maryz looked up white squirrels. How interesting! How lucky you are to see them! Along the bluffs at the ocean there are squirrels. Unfortunately, people think they need to be fed. This year there are so many that I count 10 every 10 feet. It is a population explosion and soon they will take measures to eliminate the excess. They did it a number of years ago. Such a shame! I don't like going down there and seeing that many squirrels. They look very thin.

Dinner tonight? I need to go to Costco this morning. Think I will get some Sweet Kale Salad. I would like to make something with garbanzo beans, so need to look at recipes.

Sew something!
Carol

Mary, the boys are clean and smell wonderful. I bet Scottie is a big ole fluff ball. I would love a little rain too. Alas that won't happen here for a few more months. Maybe you friend Annette is going to finish up quilts she already has started. That would go faster. It sounds like she just likes having the quilting stuff rather than using it. lol

Carol, glad the pool is down. I would guess one of the other neighbors told her it was you that filed the complaint. I need to get out my Halloween quilt from last year and get it quilted too. It's the last Halloween swap we did.

Becca, hand quilting takes a while. My fingers get sore from poking them. Hope you can get it done in time.

Well I was just going to vacuum the front room, but I ended up moving everything and removing a few pieces of furniture we done need. I vacuumed every inch of the room and then put Boric acid around the perimeter. Mary brought it up the other day, and I thought I should do that too.

Dinner will be chili tonight. Super easy.

Have a lovely day.

Lori 8-)
