SUPPER CLUB - Wed, May 3rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed May 03, 2023 8:12 am

Good morning,

We're having the second of our 2-day streak of nice weather - low to mid 70's. Then it's all going literally, down the drain. 50's and rain will be back tomorrow. So today will be another day of yard work for me. I got some done yesterday, cleaned our shop as much as I could by myself (Bill was gone to help a friend build a gazebo), and pulled all my yard art out of storage. Most of it still needs to be placed around the yard, but at least I've got it "staged". My machine has been in the shop and this morning I got an e-mail that it needs a part, which was ordered but will take from 1 to 3 weeks to come in. So, poor "Chip" is on an extended vacation and "Stitch" had to come in from the trailer and take over Chip's duties. And with rain coming in, the yard will sit and sewing will commence once again. I have Feb OWL sitting on my work table, a half-finished shirt, plus I want to make some flower blocks for May Lotto. And if you haven't checked out the pictures of flowers posted yet in that thread, you should take a peek. Beautiful things can happen with fabric!

IRISH - I've seen some of your weather on the Hays Eagle Cam. A few days ago they were panting with heat and last couple days they looked cold and wet. But they are growing fast and there are feathers! And you have been busy yourself! Are the shots helping? As for phones and computers - I'm a dud. Bill's my go-to guy. He sets everything up for me. He makes me look smart, but it's all smoke and mirrors.

JANA - yay for a fridge! Glad the second one didn't go into the reject pile! Did the delivery guys take your old one downstairs for you? What kind did you get? My fridge is kind of organized by what I have in it and that often changes. But the condiments and cooking sauces and milk are all in the door, along with other tall bottles of stuff. (baslamic vinegar, open wine, juice, etc. I use the top shelf very little because I can't reach it except for the very front so I line things up along the front and hope nothing gets shoved to the back. I'd have to get the ladder to fetch it.

CAROL - As to our 20-yr constsruction along 10 miles - they didn't 'repair' it, but they did add a couple more lanes, tore out overpasses, built new ones, rerouted ramps, added a few fly-over ramps that help reduce congestion. It was a bigger deal than building a new 10-lane freeway from scratch because they had to remove old stuff and deal with horrendous traffic. Was still annoying and I avoided it all whenever possible, but it was understandable. Sad/happy thing is I'm starting to see construction barrels going up now in next section of freeway. Sigh.

BECCA - Finding a new doctor that takes Medicare patients can be a real trial. I've been through 4 doctors in the last 10 years. Two retired, another turned into "concierge" where you had to pay $35/month just to be a patient whether you saw the doctor or not, and now we're on our fourth, a young woman who we really like. So hang in there!

I have no clue about supper tonite. I'd like to grill something as it's going to be a nice evening and we'll be out on the deck anyway. But we just grilled chicken, pork chops, and kielbasa. We do have a steak. And 1/2# hamburger. Or maybe we'll just have cheese and crackers and a salad. Maybe one of you will have a great idea for me. I don't want to go to the store. Not quite ready yet for that.

What's happening on your plate tonite?

Well, the HOH has spoken. (he thinks that means Head of Household  , but it's really Hard of Hearing👂 . Anyway, what he spoke was that he wants hamburgers. I have a few small, shriveled buns in the freezer that have been there for a few months. Maybe I'll make some buns. Or - I suppose we could have pattie melts instead. Aren't they just burgers using bread instead of buns? . . Though homemade burger buns are really delicious. . .

Good Morning,

Maryz - Glad to hear you brought the back-up into the house! I did not want to hear you were having twitches or itches because you were not sewing!

DH had to report for jury duty this morning. He went to a courtroom door and they told him to come back on May 22nd. Mind you he did not get selected for the jury yet. It will be a five-week trial. As an engineer, he will probably be dismissed but this just stresses him out. While he was gone this morning I did a load of laundry and got ready to clean the floors. He arrived just as I was ready to start! I did get the floors in dining room and kitchen mopped and am running the dishwasher.

Dinner will be Parmesan Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Salad and Broccoli. DH went in to take a nap and I think I will go for a walk.

Carol

Good afternoon from a partly sunny, but still chilly, SW. Pa....This weather is enough to drive a person to drink, which might not be a bad idea.....
Mary, had to laugh (which isn't nice of me) about your construction and the orange barrels....Welcome to Pennsylvania! We have this going on 12 months a year, winter months do get a reprieve but not much...I really think our state flower just might be the Orange Pylon that seems to grow on every road, highway, turnpike around...Heck, Kevin even has them to set out on the street when he brings his tractor over to mow.....And what is strange, with all the road repairing, we have the worst in the nation...As soon as you cross the border from another state, you know by the pot holes exactly where you are......
I think the B12 shot really helps but then again, it could be my imagination....But, in my head or not, I'll keep taking them....Told a friend this morning, had the shot, today feel like I'm in my 60s, check in a month and I'll be back in my 80s....

Carol, sorry to see you had a "spot" taken off but thank goodness it was done early....Jim suffered for probably 50 years with skin cancer...We were very fortunate to have a specialist/surgeon in the family...He told me, Jim had the thickest folder of any of his patients (not something to be proud of) and he was the 1st patient he had used the MOHs treatment on...I had always told Regis (the doc) he could be a great quilter, his stitches were so tiny and perfect...He removed a mark on my forehead, put in 21 stitches and there is absolutely no scar.....Of course we blame it on the Irish skin, everyone in the family has had to have moles or marks removed...

Jana, so glad the new fridge "fits" right in...When I had to get my last one, they was a shortage so I ended up using the kid's dorm fridge and managed to empty the freezer pretty well...Remember the old avocado colors that were so popular....Well, had it in my other house and finally, got a new stove, not green and really wanted to new fridge but that darn thing would just not die...Finally, just went out and ordered a new one...Something about that color that refused to go away.....Black appliances were in this house when I moved in but when the time comes, I will change...Could be in my mind but I always think I see streaks, lol.....

Becca, with the way the days are flying by, won't be long before you'll be in your new house....So exciting!

Our friends who bought the mountain up near my sister's camp asked us to come to a cook out at their semi built house...She is doing a stint in Alaska as a flying nurse and is home for 2 weeks...They also have a motor home on the mountain to live in until house is done...BUT, with all the rain, plans have been changed...We all will be staying at my sister's camp and as she said, roughing it....Her son usually goes with us and takes care of turning on the gas and the rest of the utilities but this time, it will be my sister putting her GS skills in place when building the fire...I did tell her I might bring my electric blanket and she said, better hope we get the electric turned on....But, it will be a fun time and we will be playing our marathon games of cards, maybe by candlelight!

I finally put my meatloaf in the oven with a couple of potatoes....Told Kevin to pop in if he wanted meatloaf but no dessert......
Got all the uglies done this morning so going to spend the rest of the day, crocheting....

You all have a good rest of the day..........The girl at the Olive Garden said that to me yesterday when we were leaving and it brought back so many good memories of Cindy and hearing her say that every day when she'd call......Hard to believe, she's been gone 4 years, tomorrow......Miss her so much!

Happy eating.......

Good afternoon!

Got my Lila fed she a very happy camper with a leftover piece of pizza, actually 2 pieces!

Dinner - broccoli, tortellini, kielbasa with Swiss cheese sauce. A favorite. Afters, chocolate cream pie.

Mary - sorry about your machine delay. Glad you have a good backup machine. My yard art is a pair of pink flamingos. They waiting for a yard! Still waiting on landscape people!

Carol - with Michael being a engineer used to get him off jury duty too. Engineers take a lot to be convinced and lots of attorneys want to fluff stuff!

Well, still getting my kitchen back from construction, almost done. I have tools and dust hanging out. Watching to see if my dishwasher is still dripping water. So far, the top one isn't. Once it's done, I run the bottom one. A engineer taught me to do one thing at a time. As per usual, Michael is right, but don't tell him that! LOL!

Hugs,
Jana

Mary, are burger buns easy to make? I should try making them. We don't use them a lot, but it always seems when I need them I don't have them. I always have flour and baking supplies though.
Glad you had a few nice days before rain. We had quite a bit of rain this year, but I don't mind it at all. It keeps things green and flowering.

Becca, I'm not a fan of wind. Glad you were able to get your walk in early.

Carol, did they tell you DH he was going to be on a jury? I would say sorry, I have plans then.

Jana, your dinner sounds yummy.

Jack and I got our walk in the morning. It was clear sunny and a little chilly, but a gorgeous morning.
I packed up the dogs and dog houses. I'll get them in the mail tomorrow or Friday.

I'm going out to dinner with a friend. Don't know what I'll have yet.

Have a lovely evening.
