SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Feb 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Feb 22, 2023 3:50 am

Good morning,

We are rolling into a few days of very chilly weather. But not much precip of any kind. Bill is still in Oregon though they did pick up the trailer, then the motorcycle w/sidecar (for the dog :D ), and made it to LaGrande, OR about 6:15 last evening. They encountered a little snow crossing the Blue Mtns and reached Bob's house an hour later just as darkness closed in and snow started to fall there. The guys cooked hamburger patties topped with the canned chili I sent along and then they went to bed. They were exhausted. Today Bill will assess the snow situation. He may stay w/ Bob another night. If things look clear, he might make a run for home. It's an 8-hr drive.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I did some clothes shopping yesterday. I tried on several things but ended up buying only 3 blouses, which I needed. I came home, finished my sister's birthday tote bag, worked a short while on my shirt, and then went to visit a friend who was home from a post-op appt and was wanting company. This morning, I have chiropractor appt and then will work on that shirt the rest of the day. Bill has Bigfoot on the frame so I can't quilt any of the other tops I have waiting.

CAROL - lots of room at the table yesterday - just you and me! I Googled what I think is the 3-block table runner class you are taking today. It looks interesting. I know you'll have fun. You are always learning new skills! Does your hubby fly his own plane or does he rent one? My DB, Gene, in Alaska, is a bush pilot and had his own small plane for many years. I flew with him once. He gave up his license quite a while ago, though. He'll be 88 next month.

I think I'll make a pot of split pea soup and let it simmer in the crockpot all day. It's my favorite soup.

What's the plan at your house?

Good Morning,

Maryz - Yes, DH has a Cessna 172 he flies. Mostly he flies at night when there isn't as much traffic in the skies. Airspace in Los Angeles area is quite complicated and very busy. The class looks like fun. Jenny Kae's talk last night was "Leave quilts not fabric". She is quite entertaining. The class starts at 9:30 AM this morning.

Today is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. We are having a Noodle Casserole. I gave DH choices and that is what he wanted.

The wind has been blowing since yesterday evening. It is very strong, and I am glad I will be inside today. The weather people actually are calling for a blizzard. I have lived in Southern California almost all my life and I do not remember ever having a blizzard before. They said we will remember this storm for years to come.

Carol

Good Morning from a very dreary, rainy, semi chilly, SW. Pa.....Yep, it's me, or I think it is...Been a long, long time but hopefully, most things have gotten back to at least semi normal...Lots to tell and hope I won't bore you too much...I have had some set backs and still the heart is giving us fits so will need the have the next step but the BP has steeped and they won't do anything until that is taken care of...But, I'm sure everything will be fine...Most doctors are thinking my problems are coming from Covid and then Lymes....
But, my other news, sad but also happy..As you know, I have 2 grandsons in the AirForce...Well, we got word that their mother, my ex daughter in law, was being put in Hospice and the boys would be on their way home...Stephan with his wife were driving from Kansas but Nick and his new wife would be flying in from England....Sadly, the day they were to arrive, she passed away before either of them got here...Their dad, my son lives in Tenn...so the boys asked if they could stay here.....Of course, no problem (with the help of an air mattress)...So for almost 2 weeks, I've had the boys and getting acquainted with my new English DGD...1st time in the states and so much fun to watch her trying our food and 1st thing she wanted to do was go to Walmart and Target...(She loves Walmart) They also helped with cleaning out their Mom's house and have things stored in my shed..But the best part, she crocheted and was kind of a hoarder and they brought 4 garbage bags and 10 huge bins full of yarn...The DGD was Kansas does crochet and took at least 6 of those big shrinkable bags home and was teaching my English DGD how to crochet so she packed her suitcase full....It was a rough time for the boys but I'm so glad they have their wives to help them...And as sad as it was, under the circumstances, I loved having them here.....
But, the best news, Nick got his new orders and he and Trisha will be transferred to Pensacola, Florida, of all places and will be coming in June...At that time, they will gather up all the stuff they stored and head south...BUT, they also have a cat and would like to leave him here until they get settled...Not sure Baby is going to be too happy........

As far as my sewing, I was able to finish the Harley Davidson quilt for my ex pet sitter and she cried when I gave it to her....But, that's been about it....I've decided, with Lent, I'm not allowed to give up any food but I'm going to make sure I do something productive each day, even if it's playing with my machine and joining you gals at the table....Have missed you all.....

Not sure what my dinner will be but leaning towards a poached egg and toast....

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating............
Sorry for writing a noval.....

Good morning!

Right now computer technicalities, Grandpa is at bat. We're trying to get Gracie logged on to do her 30 minutes of work. So far, it's taken longer than that to log in! Sheesh! A few other choice technician words too. LOL!

Still white out conditions in my yard with lots of wind.

Dinner - spaghetti or tacos we'll see.

Mary - glad Bill made it and hanging out there for awhile. You had quite the productive day.

Carol -- sounds too like you had fun with your meeting.

Irish - so good to see you. I like your lent resolution, visiting here with us more often! Sorry the boys had to lose their mom. Florida is a nice place to visit! :)

Well, the computer is still not cooperating, so all school work is done! Playtime in the snow! Ethan will be down later too.

Hugs,
Jana

Irish, so good to see you post. Glad you were able to see your grandsons. My son was stationed at Hurlburt Field east of Pensacola. It's really pretty there.

Mary, good for you finding 3 tops. I need to go shopping for clothes too, but I don't like to shop for anything other than fabric.

Jana, sounds like you are having quite the storm. Hope you get the technical difficulties figured out.

Carol, they said blizzard? Really? Remember last year when we had the hail storm in February. Wonder if it will be like that. It hailed for a half an hour last year. It was crazy.

Jack took me for a walk. Then I took Wrigley over to get grooms. This is his 1st time going to the groomers. We've been doing for the last 6 1/2 years. We'll see how it works out. Jack is up next after Wrigley is done. I've been working a a cute little Bee wall hanging. As much as I've ripped out, I think I could have made it twice. It is really cute though.

Yesterday I spent some time at my dad's going though some stuff. Every closet is packed with stuff. I had no idea it was like that. I stayed up there while the cleaners were there in case they had any questions. My brother was in the hospital again for a week and now they have transferred him to a nursing facility. Don't know if they will keep him or eventually send him home. He really can't live on his own, and my dad can't really help him at this point. Hope it all works out.

We'll I better get busy and do something productive. Maybe finish my wall hanging.

Dinner is out with girl friends. We're trying a new place.

Have a lovely day.

Hi everyone. The table is full today. 😊
Irish, so happy to see you. Sorry about the death in the family, but sounds like you are enjoying the visit.
Carol, wow, a blizzard? In your southern California home?? I missed that on the news. Stay safe!

Our church does supper meals before church before Lenten service. Tonight is sloppy joes. I know the farm gal who is making the sloppy joes. They have their own farm raised beef in the freezer, so I know it will be delicious!
We are choosing church each Wednesday evening (six weeks), so no dancing on Wednesday.
I have been busy sewing today. I brought home fabric with the University of Illinois logo. Bad part is, in order to use the fabric, I have to unsew the valances hems and rod pockets.
I was tempted to just cut that part off, but I would loose way too much fabric.
I have 10 valances total. I have three unsewn, 7 more to go. The ladies at church suggested I use the fabric for lap quilts for nursing home.
I know the men would like it.
I have trouble remembering what each of you posted, so I will just say hello and wish you a lovely evening.
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Lori - Yes, the weather lady on NBC said a blizzard. I think it is on Saturday. That is to be the worst weather. I must admit I need to look up blizzard. I am not sure what to expect.
