SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, March 6th
Good morning,
I slept late (for me) this morning! I think the last few sleepless nights caught up with me. And maybe because the dog slept on the bed and didn't tear off through the house barking when the owls hooted. Our bed is pretty high and it's a long jump for him to get down. He's quiet when he's on the bed, but it does make for a crowd. And I'm not sure Foxy approves of dogs sleeping on our bed.
Yesterday was an ugly day interspersed with sewing. I'm making good progress on my North Star. Maybe I'll get the blocks finished today. Though I have more uglies to do so we'll see . . . . Bill will finish up my TN Waltz this morning, so I also have that to trim, bind, label. I think I'll save that for Monday or Tuesday - after I finish my NS blocks.
We saw Vicki yesterday - first time since we've been home. She was headed down her driveway towards the road. So we scurried over to her yard to assess the garbage situation. Worse than ever. Then Bill went out to the road to check on her and cops were already there, talking her out of the traffic lanes. And so it goes. It's good to be home!
LORI - What was the pattern of this latest project you just finished? I like using up the scraps on the back. Sorry I hogged all the rain. I tried my best to share!
TINA - glad you got the project finished for the little girl. I'm sure Mom was very happy! They must be local relatives. I hope the dust storms ease up. Is this usually a seasonal thing or do they happen just whenever? A very good excuse to stay in and sew, though not sure it's worth all the clean-up afterward. I bet you are thankful for that back-saving doggie bathrub! I am so tempted to drop Scottie off at your house next time we're in NM for a good groom. He goes on Tuesday to have his day at the spa.
CAROL - I don't think I had much to do with Bill quilting the quilts but rather the weather has been so chilly and wet that he didn't want to go outside or even into the garage and he was bored! lol! I'm just praying his "quilt-jo" holds out for the last two. It was only going to be one, but I've sneaked this North Star project in for our friend here. I recently saw an autograph quilt in a magazine and they used 6-1/2" strips, cut 2-1/2" wide. They sewed a white strip between two prints so the block was 6-1/2" unfinished. And like Jana suggested, the white was backed with freezer paper before writing on it. Stablized the fabric for easier writing. So these blocks were positioned every other direction, making it look kind of like basket weave.
I've taken boneless pork chops out of the freezer. Not sure if we'll grill or if I'll put them into the oven. We have one big sweet potato we can bake and share, and everything to make a nice salad.
I've got a plan, now to run it "through the House" and see if it passes.
What's your plan?

Good morning, Mary. Yesterday we had spaghetti and salad for supper. There is plenty left for tonight, so for now having leftovers is the plan.

Good morning all!
We've already got dirt blowing....I made a Walmart order to be picked up at 10 because the dirt wasn't supposed to start till 11, it's only 9:15. Mary our dust storms mostly happen in March and April. It's because we're in a severe drought. I think all of our top soil is in Texas now. Air quality is really dangerous. I stay in as much as possible but even inside the dust is crazy.... picture not cleaning floors or dusting for more than a month probably... that's what I get in 8 hours... it's bad. I can write my name on the tables and the floor. I'm going to be looking into an air purifier for the house, I have 2 small ones but I think we need something else, these just don't seem to be getting the job done anymore.
Mary, the family member I quilted for is local but her granddaughter lives in Hobbs which is in the northern part of the state, I think it's a 6 or 7 hour one way drive.
Oh my gosh this sink is awesome for washing the dogs, my knees are way thankful!
Duncan gets his bath after we get groceries.
Maryrose, spaghetti and salad sounds yummy, we had lasagna and salad last night.
Our gas prices here are 4.19, they may be higher by the end of the day. We're going to top off the tank when we get groceries. The sad part is this could all be avoided, they could open up the pipeline again plus they shut down tons of oil wells in Texas and New Mexico a little over a year ago, if they open it all back up the prices could go down..... that's how it went down 4 to 5 years ago and stayed down.
Well I better scoot, about time to leave to get gas and our order.
Tina

Maryz: The Vicki situation seems to be getting really bad!
Glad that Bill enjoys operating the LA.
The Autograph block you described sounds like the rail fence we use in "Warm Wishes".
There has been conversation about making several quilts to present to our Missionary and his children to use more of the African Fabric. This might be a great idea to add into our design when or if we proceed with that project.
We could gather autographs from our church members or officers and teachers and other church leaders. Love getting ideas from all of you.
Tina: The dust storm sounds awful. What a problem for asthma persons.
All your food ideas sound yummy. I think I will do a ham steak to tonight. Salad sounds good too. Thanks for more ideas.
Now off to sew this afternoon.

Mary, it's called "Shooting Stars," an exclusive pattern for the sew sampler box. Made with a small jelly roll and 2 1/2 inch strips for the background. Super easy and fun. I will probably make this pattern again.
I pulled out some red/white/blue strips that I bought at QIAD a few years ago when we were there. I'm making it into a quilt for vets. They go to our local VA.
Dinner will be chicken and potatoes.
Have a lovely day.

Good morning!
I know dinner - it's been waiting for me in the refrigerator for most of the week thawing! Turkey dinner with most of the trimmings. Since we have stuffing, Michael the grump, always grumbles if I do mashed taters too. We will see if I ignore him.
Sitting in church waiting to start. After we get home, and turkey in, I will head to my happy place, the Batt Cave.
Mary - at least the cops were johnny on the spot! You need my Aaron, garbage is not allow out loose on the property and he would not hesitate one moment to cite her!
Lori - that's a great quilt! The pattern looks like a fun and easy one.
Vel - having those who work on the quilts signing would be a 3xtra treasure.
Tina- maybe my snow is on its way toward you. You need to pressurize the inside of the house slightly, that will keep out the dirt.
Well, it's time to start,,
Hugs,,

Maryz - Sounds like you have gotten a lot done on your inside and still had time to make a quilt.
Lori - Very pretty quilt!
Jana - Yes, freezer paper makes writing on fabric much easier. I am actually making kits for Guild members to sew and sign.
Vel - Glad to give you ideas!
Tina - The dust sounds awful! Glad you got the dog washing sink!
I forgot my plan was to take chicken out of the freezer last night and just did it, so tonight will be a Fast Hash dinner. Tomorrow we will have chicken.
I am cutting fabric today. I hope to get about 30 block kits ready. Maybe I will put a piece of freezer paper in each kit.
