SUPPER CLUB - New Year's Eve, Dec 31st

Good morning,

Big fires are burning in CO - near my sisters' homes. Last night my younger sis said they were 15 miles from her house and almost 600 of homes have burned. I haven't heard any updates since then.


67* and foggy here this morning. That translates to muggy. We'll wait until after our walk to take showers and then do laundry. We'll also do some house-cleaning. After that we are off to the grocery store and the LQS. My LQS list is growing. Shame on me. I NEED thread badly, but I also plan to pick up some foundation paper for PP (I bought a book of simple holiday patterns last visit). Then I decided to pick up some FQ's for my Starry Night Nativity quilt. Now Lois is talking hand embroidery and it reminded me that I saw a Vintage Tin pattern there of a retro trailer and car that I really liked but resisted last time. I may not be able to resist this time . . . I finished up all my sewing projects yesterday except for the crazy quilt. If that's all I have to do for the next month I will be crazy, but I'm not sure Starry Night will be any better for keeping me sane! All curved sewing! Maybe I should have paid more attention before I bought it. Sigh.

BECCA - I'm glad your grocery store has been restocked. So far we haven't seen much shortages here in Austin except for pasta when we first got here. Guess we'll find out today. I'm glad your Tina stayed away while her hubby had sniffles. Better safe than sorry, for sure!

LORI - this explains why all the big new houses in my neighborhood at home - starting at $750,000 - are getting snapped up. Our friend who is a realtor says it's people moving from CA. They think these houses are 'cheap'! I can picture Wrigley after a happy walk in the rain. Heck, I can almost smell wet dog from here! lol! No FGV!! I've made that quilt twice, plus The Christmas version, plus several of the blocks for other projects. lol!

JANA - hoping Ethan's test results came back. Though, even if you are positive, it won't register until a few days after exposure. Crossing fingers. I hope Sarah's stove hurries! I've seen those surprise cakes on Great British Baking Show. Closest I've come to ever making one is a checkerboard. Are you going to do it? Kind of funny story: Our neighbors here are very quiet - big black motorhome, few windows, with "Caution, K-nine" stickers on their vehicles. Two Belgian Meleneise (sp?) (fancy German Shepherds) dogs wearing flak vests. And the man even had a gun on his hip one day. We were thinking they were CIA? Finally talked to them last night. Turns out he's working for a contractor who is working for CalTrans from home, (home being the motorhome) and she works in real estate but has visual problems so she has her service dog and his dog is a retired prisoner escort dog and he bought out the dog's contract. Both EXTREMELY well trained. Mystery solved! But the Cal Trans made me think of you.

CAROL - Tina's a big help to me! For sure! NOT! lol! Though have to admit, I'll be smiling at the LQS today. Grocery shopping can certainly qualify as a scavenger hunt these days. I'm wondering how my brother's Safeway in North Pole, AK is faring . . . Most people up there keep a very full freezer. (however, it's the stuff they have in their freezers that puts me off!! )

We never had our tacos yet, so I think that's what will be on the menu for tonite since we're going to the store today and will get lettuce. We had a potato/sausage/onion scramble with corn on the side last night.

Hello everyone sunny here for a short period I just did the leaf cleaning of ditch of big piles of leaves Worked about 1 hr & still have a few to go It would be helpful if neighbors did their part
Maryz Im sure you will come home with a new project I am going to start some hand embroidery project On tea towels I have some Christmas & some birds to do I was so surprised to see our store stocked up good again There’s still some things missing but in all good

I hope the sick is healing I am glad Tina didn’t come There’s a lot of viruses here I still wear a mask every where I go I’m doing ham today with asparagus & black eyed peas

Good morning!
Mary, I hope they get that fire out and it doesn't get any closer to your sister!
We're 43° here and lovely rain is falling! We're loving it!
We're getting Dad's groceries first and then coming home to finish dedecorating and cleaning, even cleaning everything in my China cabinet and we'll be moving the furniture. It's a good day to do it.
I think the LQS needs you to go back.
Carol, don't listen to Mary, she LOVES how much I help her LOL she spends more money that way if I would've been in charge of her packing her projects, she wouldn't have run out of things to do
Well I'm cutting it down to the wire, I gotta get ready to go get those groceries.
I'd really like take out Chinese for supper, I'll have to see if they're open this evening. Otherwise I'll have to find something in the freezer, maybe I'll make pigs in a blanket LOL and some other finger foods.

Good wonderful snowy morning!

I fibbed earlier. We have at least 12 inches, Michael measured it, and it's still snowing lightly. Our neighbors brought out the big guns, the snowblower. They have done the sidewalk and Sarah will be down later to do the driveway and walk to the house. Aaron is on duty or he would be here too. Matt is giddy about all this snow. His side by side has had the snowplow attached, backed in the garage, so all he has to do is open the door and drive out, plow and put it back. But knowing Matt, he'll do the entire neighborhood! We are waiting on the city plows to come. They have a order on which streets get done first, main arteries, etc. We are down the line in the order. Hopefully the garbage trucks will make it through today. Our cans needs dumping!

Sarah's cat, Smudge is a hoot! He loves chasing snowflakes as they fall. He is just a very large kitten doing this! The snow is about 10 inches at Sarah's and Smudge is bounding and tromping through playing in it . He lastedt about 3 minutes in the snow, ran back in and headed for the nearest heater vent, that is on the floor and plopped himself smack dab over it and won't budge!

Dinner - a soup of some sort. I am leaning toward taco soup.

Mary - good luck 9n all that curved piecing. You will master it in no time. Hope you find some wonderful project at the LQS.

Tina- my curio cabinets are in need of cleaning. But they will wait awhile, as I will have to move everything when the new carpet is installed. The cabinets, the furniture, everything. I have no idea on how they will get moved or where they will go. We are redoing the entire main floor.

Becca - be careful on cleaning those ditches!

Michael took pictures of all our snow, but with the regular camera, so I have no idea when I can get them to share, but it is very pretty outside.

Mary, my friend did the Nativity quilt last summer at retreat. When she was making the camel block, she sewed his head on backwards. We all had a good laugh. She finished it and it came out really nice. It's a really big quilt. Have fun.

Jana, I bet it's a kick to watch Smudge catch snowflakes.

Tina, I'll remember not to ask you for suggestions on what to make. lol

Becca, it's sunny here too. After 2 days of rain it is welcome.

The boys have been walked. I need to vacuum and put a few things away. Then I will find something to do.
I haven't sewn all week. I did finish my book, so maybe I'll do something creative today. I would like to make a list of quilts I want to make this year. Anything can happen.

For dinner will be chili. I didn't have beans cooked for it last night.

Here's one of my snow. - will add a couple more as I remember how!

I might have been a sloth yesterday, but made up a bit for it so far today. My stove is nice and shiny clean and the range hood is no longer a grungy mess and all my lower cabinets are washed and clean. I deserve a break for the moment. Still have uppers to do and the floor. Oh, even the backsplash is clean and grease free behind the range.

I just saw the news that Betty White died. Wow, she was so funny. I enjoyed her on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I think that is the third cast member of that program to die this year.

The fires in Colorado are just devastating.

Maryz - Sounds like you have the project all figured out. I am sure you will master those curved pieces quickly. Have a Happy New Year.

Becca - Enjoy being home on NYE. I know I certainly enjoy it.

Tina - Snuggling with others sounds like a nice way to spend NYE at home. Hope you have a good one.

Lori - Weather has been partly cloudy here today. Good day to walk though. Chili sounds good for tonight's dinner.

Jana - Hope Ethan gets his results soon and is negative. The picture is beautiful!! The mountains in Southern California were white this morning too. We see them from some distance away though.

This morning I got my hair trimmed. It looks much better. I also drove to my sister's to drop off some food. She received 4 pieces of quiche, a couple servings of Autumn Soup, and a couple servings of Stuffed Pepper Casserole. Her freezer was fairly empty so hope it tides her over for a few days.

Resolutions - So you know that I lost 25 pounds last year and my doctor told me not to lose any more. He needn't have worried, because with the holidays I did put on four pounds. I shall lose them. However, I did not tell you that my New Year's resolution for 2021 was to walk 7,500 steps per day. I measured the number of steps using my I-Phone app and carrying my phone around with me. I have averaged 8,400 steps a day. That isn't to say I missed my goal of 7,500 steps on occasion, but I made up for it other days by walking a lot more. I intend to continue my resolution to keep walking. (My doctor has told me it is a myth you need 10,000 steps. He said 7,500 steps is what you need to maintain health.) So if someone says to you no one keeps New Year's resolutions you can say you know someone who did keep it and is very glad.

Tonight like most of you I will be staying home. We are having pizza, popcorn and ice cream. (Yes, it is too cold for ice cream, but pizza calls for some.)
