SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 28

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Sep 28, 2021 5:41 am

Good morning,

I got an early start to my day. 0330. Bill decided he didn't like any of our pillows, tossed two into the garbage, ordered two more, and they arrived yesterday. Well, now I'm up early with a crooked, achy neck. So I'm going back to MY pillow. We haven't even started on the trailer pillows yet. Sigh. He's getting pickier about a lot of things in his old age.

Yesterday we did a bunch of errands, I did some SS sewing and then printed off the remaining LOTR patterns that I didn't have yet. Then I copied half of them onto my foundation paper (works so much better than regular printer paper!). Bill wanted the office then, so I will do the rest of them later. I did a bit of cleaning/purging of one shelf in my 'everything but sewing' craft cabinet while I was looking for something else. Then I got out all those RBR patterns I 'd collected. Sad to say but most of them were unusable for my purpose. Then I remembered I have a pattern called "Alaskan Silhouette Sampler" by Brenda Henning. I bought it years ago and made it for us. I think I'll make it again for Gene. I actually entered it in the County Fair and took a blue ribbon (though my son was kind enough to point out that there weren't that many quilts entered. ). So I really want to get crackin' on his quilt, too, even as I can't wait to get started on the next LOTR block.

Today, I plan to piece the backs for my two Halloween Swap quilts. The last two blocks should arrive today or tomorrow and I really want to get these projects together for the boys in time for at least a bit of Halloween fun. Then my sewing room needs some serious cleaning. After that, I want to decide just what I'm taking in the trailer. A whole week of camping is too long not to take some sewing. I'm sure it will be some LOTR blocks, but maybe I'll start on a couple Alaskan blocks, too.

Those of you with little ones in your lives, one thing I'm letting go of is a 1" thick book of Looney Toons iron on transfers for fabric paint, embroidery, and I imagine you could use them for applique as well. If this sounds like something you could use, let me know. Otherwise, I'm going to Goodwill it.

BECCA - I'm so happy you are able to get back to your walking. I know you really enjoy that. I bet CA really enjoyed those cowboy beans. It was one of Bill's mom's favorite recipes. She brought them to all family potlucks.

TINA - it really is hard for our parents when they reach the stage your dad has. My dad needed a lot of help his last few years, but he didn't want to have to need help and he had a hard time accepting it graciously. If that makes any sense. I say anything that makes his (and your) life easier is a winning idea!

JANA - Your description of your egg incident reminds me a little of the scene in the Long Long Trailer movie with Lucy and Desi when she was trying to cook dinner while the trailer was rolling. lol! Glad it's all cleaned up now.

We tried our sheet pan supper in the new air fryer last night. It was good except a bit dry, but perhaps that's because I overcooked it by about 4 minutes. And After one bite Bill wouldn't eat the chicken because I added a bit of rosemary. He doesn't like rosemary. I like a little, and the last time I sneaked it in, he thought it was good (he didn't know, of course). So dinner was a success for the oven, but not so much for the cook, I guess. Not sure what I'll try next. Maybe french fries . . . I have the second chicken breast to do something with. I might make a small pot of chicken noodle soup. Bill really likes that and it will make up for trying to slip him rosemary.

What's happening in your kitchen tonite?

Good morning!
I was up early, for me...5:30. Mary when I'm up as early as you I call that not sleeping at night LOL
Dad's coming here this morning for a telimed dr's appointment, it's his cancer dr. Praying 🙏 all is good with all his numbers and tests he just had done last week.
Frankie is complaining about his pillow and has been for a couple years now. I've bought at least 4 different ones and he didn't like them so all the grands got new pillows and he still has his old one. I hate trying to buy new pillows, it's always a mess! And they aren't cheap. We don't have matching pillows... actually I sleep with 5 pillows LOL, they are all different and I use them in different places for side sleeping.... legs, arms, back LOL
I bought a package of that pp paper from QIAD a few months back to do the flying geese.... I'll get to it soon 🤞
Your Alaskan Silhouette quilt was beautiful, it deserved that ribbon! Gene will love his!
You do have to watch about things getting too dry in the air fryer, I don't know how to prevent that, I'm still learning.
I have a busy day.... Dad's dr's appointment here, he doesn't know how to get in the link, I used to go over to his house but last time and this time he wanted to come over here. Then I have to get a grocery order, drop off fresh eggs to a friend and work on the king size Christmas quilt.....I may or not get some uglies done.
Supper tonight hasn't been thought about LOL, it's just going to be Frankie and me so hopefully not a big meal or mess.

Good morning!

Oh the great pillow debate! Michael is very fussy on his pillow too. He knows not to touch mine! I did have to replace his awhile back and he only gripes a little now. He is a feather pillow guy and the more flat and falling apart, he says the better. The last one finally gave up the last bit of oomph, so he got a new one, he is breaking in. We always had to take our own pillows in the car when we traveled. He is getting fussy on many things in his old age too. I don't dare rearrange anything in a kitchen drawer or cabinet - but when I want to rearrange, I simply know which string to pull, and he thinks it's his idea and does the rearranging. Love that! Or simply ask, what do you think....., he has learned that means I want to change something, paint color, floor, etc. Right now I am biding my time on the new rugs in the house. He wants to make them last 10 years, before we put in new. That's February. I keep stopping in the carpet area of Lowes or Home Depot and ask, what about this color? Always picking the ugliest one. LOL!

Dinner - no idea - tired of chicken, Michael is on a anti beef kick, so that leaves banned and a salad. We will see what gets made. Maybe homemade pasta and Alfredo sauce.

After breakfast, hopefully the eggs will behave, I have laundry to start and then play in the Batt Cave. Yesterday, Michael got all the pieces parts cut for the latest train table. When this one is assembled, it means, the final decision on what kind of hot water heater will happen. This train table has track that goes through our utility room and the water heater is smack in the way. Train planning and elevations come first! LOL!

Time to go,
Hugs,
Jana

Good late morning from a very dreary, wet, SW. Pa...We had rain most of the night, along with the boomers and light show and sometimes very heavy rain....I never know if I should just stay in bed or take a peek outside to see if I should get out the oars.....

Amazing about men and their pillows....Jim never complained, slept with what ever we had...Me, I sleep with 2 sometimes 3 just to be able to breathe and maybe I'm the one who is particular......Your son really does sound typical, but I'll bet he was still very proud of his Mom......

Becca, thank goodness you're able to get out there and walk...You've made quite a recovery.....

Jana, loved the egg story and have even "replayed" it back in my mind...Thinking back, how many of us have done "goofy" things like that, not too funny at the time but thinking later, get a good laugh.....I like you way of looking at carpet, good thinking.......

Tina, will be thinking of your Dad today and praying for all good results.....

Just not sure what I'm going to be doing....One thing for sure, need to clean off the front porch/deck...Finally, getting a roof tomorrow (boy it better not rain)....I (as most of my neighbors) am so excited.....For the last week, we've been getting streets repaved and I never knew who might be parking in my driveway each day or night....It looked like I had a different visitor each night, lol.....
One of the alarms starting chirping this morning and it took awhile to figure out which one...Poor Baby Girl is afraid and has been hiding under the bed...But, dragged out the ladder and managed to get the battery out but Kevin will have to put the new one in.....
I'm hoping I can maybe stay in the sewing room today and get caught up on some mending...I have so many projects I want to start but made a deal with myself to do the mending 1st....I do have a meeting tonight with our Civic Association but not sure if I want to go out...My sister will try to bribe me with a sundae later if I go.....
We did work at the house again this past Sunday and going back again this coming Sunday...I'm making arrangements to have all the clothes picked up next Tuesday so we'll be traveling up there again...Not sure if I mentioned finding money, in cards, magazines, medicine boxes...Well, in the pantry, my sister found an envelope filled with $50.00 bills and a couple hundreds...That's why everything has to be checked and taking so long.....But, we are making progress.......

As for dinner, it's a soup day, so might put on a pot of veggie or maybe I should check the freezer, might just have some hiding in there......

You all have a great rest of the day.......

Happy eating......................

Hi everyone. I got up early today, but didn't get here until after lunch. We are having Campbell's soup tonight. Chicken for DH, Bean n Bacon for me.
I have been going through boxes, notebooks, sorting patterns, notes, lots of stuff. Through out a bunch of old notes and stuff I know I don't need or want.
Found something to pass on to my elf. Hope she likes it.
Maryz, you are a trooper on your LOTR quilt. Loved the picture you shared. Really neat that he brought you more fabric. Will you use this in remaining blocks or will you be using it in a pieces back?
Going to go back to sorting stuff in sewing area. I want to go through all my scraps and pieces. I will try sorting by colors.
I hope all works out with your Dad, Tina. I know it's hard to convince parents to accept a little help.
Better get myself in gear and get back to sorting.
HUGS, đź’• Vel

I'm back, getting ready to get ready for bed and forgot I had been in the middle of reading and then wanted to let you all know that Dad's numbers are great! His PSA/ PSI? hasn't changed in 2 years, it's like. O3 something like that. His calcium is a tiny bit low even with taking 1200mg of calcium a day so his dr told him to eat salads with leafy veggies, almonds, more dairy to boost it so I got him almonds, baby spinach and a romaine salad mix and cheese. His thyroid is high so he needs to get with his primary dr and get his thyroid med adjusted. It's a side affect of his cancer med.
One of my other aunts called me this morning and asked me if I would make a quilt out of blocks that my aunt Artie made about 20 years ago. I'm totally honored and said yes I would ❤ she's going to send them to me in a couple days. I already have a plan worked out. I just need to see if I have the right fabric to go with them.
Well it's bedtime. Night. Sleep good.
Tina
