SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Aug 13th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 13, 2021 6:12 am

Good morning,

Another toasty day here for us as we near 100*. We do pretty good keeping the house cool by opening it up in the cool mornings and closing it down about 11am. We spent last evening in our lower level which maintained 77* even during the heat of the day. I spent yesterday working on my quilt and probably will today, too. I received my Oct issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. Usually, the few magazines I get never have anything fresh and enticing to me, but this one has about 4 projects that I'd love to do! It's overwhelming my brain! I can't wait to delve into all of them!

I got a text from my niece in Alaska last night. My brother, Gene, is in the hospital. Looks like he has pancreatitis and will need his gall bladder out as soon as the pancreas settles down. He's been trying to teach himself to cook. We do a lot of texting about cooking but he doesn't want to hear that he should toss out his crock of old bacon grease or that his 2 yr old Crisco needs to go. Maybe now he'll re-think some of his diet choices . . .

Yesterday after my morning walk, I picked blackberries from the big patch in our front yard. I got 22 cups. I made a cobbler and froze three 6-cup packages of berries. I'll probably do one more picking, maybe Monday. I'm not doing jam this year as I overdid it last year, but I do like berries in the freezer. I'm thinking about making pickles, too . . . . maybe dill, but probably bread & butter. Perhaps both! Or none. We'll see what kind of cucumbers I can find.

TINA - Prayers for your aunt. I hope she recovers soon. Have fun with Adam's trailer!! lol! What kind of tractor are you bringing home? Make/model/year. I'm a tractor gal and we've been to many antique tractor shows and we even showed my dad's 1948 Farmall A that Bill meticulously restored back in the late 90's.

JANA - it's good for our hubbies to have a stash of something on their own! Bill isn't much of a stash-keeper unless it's computer equipment. At last count he had 5 computers, several towers, fans, hard drives, keyboards, etc. And a whole tote full of wires, cords, etc. And lots of reloading equipment that he never uses. But he still can't compare with my stash. I win! I'm lucky because he understands not having the right fabric for a certain project even though my shelves runneth over and he will even drive me to the fabric store! lol!

VELDA - love it! The cookie fairy! And I can almost smell those peaches from here! So tell us more about your new home - how many bedrooms/baths? What is kitchen like? Ground floor? I think you said there were no stairs. I'm excited for you. When do you finally vacate your fiver? Will the new owners leave it where it is or are they going to hit the road with it?

For supper tonite I think we're going to have a kind of scramble - sliced kielbasa, chunked sweet potatoes, onion, and apple (if we get our hands on an apple). If no apple I might sub in pineapple. And a side salad.

What are you thinking about for tonite?

Good lunchtime Friday. Just a quick response and then I need to fix lunch. Yesterday was crazy here and then we were scheduled to help with church rummage sale ( which the storms interfered with). Anyway ended up not cooking, so rewind and yesterday's menu tonight. LOL

And to answer questions. Yes new owners are keep this site. Not sure if they take it to their home for winter, or if they will keep it here on site for winter.
Our condo has 2 bedrooms, single floor. We will be jumbled up for awhile until we get our furniture. Eventually, I will share with pictures.
Have a fine day! I am beginning to pack a few boxes. Makes me feel like time is near. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’•

Good afternoon!

Lunchtime here too. Still working on my dinner menu. Leaning toward a half sandwich and a bowl of soup. Either a roast beef - tri tip or a egg salad sandwich. We do need a quick run to the grocery store for fresh veggies and eggs. I normally get my eggs from Sarah's chickens, but she is off camping till Saturday. They will be home early as she is getting eaten by mosquitoes and is allergic to bug spray. Poor child!

Heading to the Batt Cave to play.

Stay safe!

Hugs,
Jana

Good late afternoon from a warm, sunny but starting to cloud up a bit, in SW. Pa....We are to have another nasty storm this afternoon and not looking forward to it...We had one late afternoon yesterday and it was a doozy, some are still out of electric, trees (not in my area) are down and some places it's just a mess...My sister lives on a hill but 1 corner of her front yard is lower and retains a lot of water...Thank goodness it's far enough away from the house that it doesn't seep in..But, I get these texts, "House just went up in price, we now have lake from property".......Last year, after a very bad rain, she looked out and had a little yellow duck floating across the front yard, compliments of one of her kids......
We had a great day yesterday in our traveling adventure...Our 1st stop, by surprise, was at the roller skating rink that we "lived at" in our early teen years until it burned down..They've rebuilt and the owner just happened to be in the parking lot and asked if we wanted to check out the inside...Oh my the memories...In my dreams I can still do the jumps and twirls but in real life, there was no way I was going to put on those skates....Next we stopped at a very quaint inn for breakfast and then onto Shanksville...As I had said, I'd never been there and probably won't go back again...It's a very emotional place, to see the actual spot, to listen to those making a final phone call to their loved ones, it makes you wonder how there can be so much hatred to be able to carry out something like this.....It's a very, very moving place....We left there and found covered bridges and had lunch in another very old, stone inn in Bedford....Coming home, stopped at Dairy Queen to top off a perfect day......
AND this Friday the 13th, is my #3 son's 63rd birthday...Talk about hard to believe! He was over this morning to take care of the grass and said, it's hard for him to believe he's that old, lol.....

Mary, What a story about surviving a forest fire, WOW! Someone from above was sure watching over them...Sorry to hear about your brother but I'm sure he'll bounce back quickly after the surgery.....Yesterday in our travels, we did pass a couple thrift shops and I was telling the gals about you finding treasures for gifts through out the year...My luck would be a tee shirt with a hidden stain that didn't fit and probably not even good as a rag.....

I was so glad to see Becca posting again...And sure sounds like she's as good as new, back to running all those errands she's usually doing...AND a new baby, great news.....

Velda, Your new adventure is about to begin...So exciting moving into a new home and it does sound perfect, especially, all on 1 floor....Will be anxious to see the pictures.....And when I read about your peaches my mouth was watering...Love anything made with a peach!

Jana, you got my tummy thinking when you said, "egg salad"...Just might have to get some eggs cooking....I was thinking when I read about the mosquitoes, of all the things that Noah allowed on the Ark, why did he let those nasty bugs on board? I've started grabbing a dryer sheet on my way out the door and I think it might be helping or maybe they've gotten they just don't like the taste of me.....

Well, gonna go cook some eggs and then play with some blocks for awhile......Still have some fresh tomatoes from Kevin so might also make a salad....

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating........................
