SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Aug 23rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:21 am

Good morning,

An early morning for me today. Which means it will be an early night tonite. Yesterday we got Tea Party loaded onto the frame and I have it 25% quilted. I also put about 5 hours into the yard. It's looking good out there! I hope to finish up the back today and call it done. I've simplified what I do and how I do it a LOT but it's still about an acre that I keep up. The rest of the property is woods. Makes a nice buffer from all the big housing developments going in around us. Evenings, I'm still working on my state bird blocks. I think I have 3-1/2 left to do. :D I vowed to finish these before I allow myself to start any new hand projects.

Yesterday I called our friend, Danny, to see how he was doing (cancer, heart, 81 yrs old). Our families have been friends for 3 generations. His DD told me he died about 5 days ago. She apologized for forgetting to call us. This is almost like losing another older brother. He changed my diapers (or so he always told me - he was 12 when I was born).

So today's plan is yard work, Tea Party, and a trip to Home Depot to buy a shrub and rhodie food. And come evening, some quality time stitching a mongoose for Hawaii.

JANA - I think adding a whisk to your pot holders is a great idea! Maybe even a copy of your favorite Christmas recipe! What a nice gift for all your neighbors - and family. Better than fudge, for sure!

IRISH - wow! I couldn't keep up with your social life! lol! But how fun to keep so busy and engaged! Were you able to get your hair cut? Cindy G loves the chicken and dumplings at Cracker Barrel.

LORI - poor Jack in the heat. He's wearing his black coat and black holds the heat! Hope you cool down soon! And yes, a little bit of garbage was taken away from Vicki's but lots to go. And we notice she's back to throwing more kitchen garbage out the back. Part of Huntington's is obsessive behavior and the trash thing is what is obsessing her now. Two years ago it was hosing everything in sight on her property and part of ours. For hours, she would stand and hose deck, patio, parking pad, yard, side of the house etc. Every day, for months.

CAROL - I've never used a pectin that had to be mixed with water. In fact, never heard of doing that. But I do add lemon juice to some jams, and a pat of butter to keep it from foaming too much. Glad you saved all your jam!

BECCA - is Denise still there? Are you all doing OK?

We had spaghetti last night and I still have some left so I think we might have chicken parm tonight. My new recipe from TOH magazine that cooks it in the crockpot was really good so I'm going to try that again. No sense heating up the kitchen.

How is the menu planning coming at your house?

Good morning!

I can barely see the outline of my mountains. The smoke is beginning to dissipate.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with my potholder sewing. My fabric arrived and I cut what was needed. Maybe that light is a oven light! LOL! Next project is my Minnie Mouse quilt for Karlie. My thread order arrived as well yesterday. Oh, the sewing area needs a bit of straightening too.

Straightened the pantry down there too yesterday. Tried to negotiate a spot out in the train room for another shelf. Nope, didn't succeed. But, a compromise did happen. There is wall space, open between the studs, so that space can be used for narrow shelves, between those studs. Holding spices, packets, etc. I had to move things around. I had covered a main water shutoff valve, that could be needed in a emergency. So it is now accessible. Always can used more space in that pantry.

Dinner - our normal late brunch - hashbrowns and eggs. Maybe a snack of a ear of corn later tonight. I love fresh corn and could eat just that for dinner many nights!

Not much else here. I think we will be invaded tonight. Matt is sending his kids back to in person school. We feel that shouldn't be done, but have not persuaded him otherwise. So they won't be coming out for quite awhile. That is, until they shut down the schools again, after the virus creates a huge outbreak. End of soapbox. Cookies are in order, butterscotch toffee pecan. They are yummy!

Mary - three states left! Yellowstone is coming quick. The forecasts are showing we will be cooling off big time - down to the 70's and 80's. It should be nice and cool for your trip. When I lived in Rexburg, it always snowed on October Conference, the first weekend of October. You will just miss that.

Stay Safe!

Hugs,
Jana

Hi, Maryz and all you kitchen pals. I come to read and catch up, but most days, too late to post anything.
Mary, you have my curiosity on your chicken done with crockpot for chicken parmesan. I always like to learn new crockpot methods.
If you want to share here, or text me.
I am using my crockpot today as well. Trying an easy BBQ ribs. I am using boneless and bottled sweet Baby Ray's rather than the recipe's homemade sauce.
Sorry about your friend, Danny. How far away from you are they? Close enough that you missed the services as well?

Mary, so sorry about your friend. What will you do with the "Tea Party" quilt? I finished mine and it's been hanging in the closet.

Jana, many of the schools have opened, and there hasn't been a problem. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Vel, ribs sure sound good. We usually just go out when we want ribs since we don't have them very often.

I think it's going to be Chili tonight. Super easy as the temps are still in the 90's. We put A/C in the house 13 years ago and I'm so glad we did.

Have a lovely evening.
