SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Aug 16th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Aug 16, 2020 7:25 am

Good morning!

62* here this morning. We are out on the deck with our coffee, pets, and you! Going to 93* but just for the one day. I love our climate! I hope my Grandpa can somehow here my grateful thanks every day for moving here in 1902 from PA/NY area - a gutsy move back then. My property adjoins what was once his first homestead here. I haven't gone far!!

IRISH - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRLFRIEND! I know you are having a great time with Kathy, Lena, et al!! Don't do anything I wouldn't do! and that gives you a lot of leeway! ;)

CAROL - you are in for a lot of noisy, dusty times ahead. But I guess it would be worse - you could be part of the work crew on these hot, hot days. A few years back our road was dug up for the entire summer and fall. We thought we'd break springs on our car, it was such rough driving. We live right in the middle of a one mile long county road.

JANA - I agree - you should get more miles from your tires if they are a good brand. For a while, they were putting "Marathon" on Arctic Fox trailers, but people were having blowouts in less than 3,000 miles, so they quickly stopped that! Bill changed our tires after our first trip. I think we use only Michelin. Our friend researched tires for TWO YEARS before he finally made his decision. So for that long, all our happy hour talk was tires. lol! I hope Sara does well with her recovery. It took 8 months before I could move to the next step when I had my implants. But boy, do I love them now! We would love to hear more about your fancy thread tensioner. Our Nolting is a great machine, but boy, is it picky about thread!

BECCA - I understand how your CA feels about not being able to do the things he used to - this is how my brothers felt, too. Some days the energy well runs low. Best to just relax for a while and let your body recharge.

Yesterday I picked another 3 buckets of blackberries. I had berries everywhere! What a mess my kitchen was. I froze another package (got 6 pkgs now), made a pie and froze that, and made a cobbler for our supper. I made 3 batches of blackberry jam a few weeks ago. Even though I have plenty of everything now, I will keep picking as long as there are berries, but I'm not going to pick on my morning walk. I have more than enough on our own property!

Today I will quilt for a while, then maybe clean downstairs (where it's cooler). And I still have to do an inventory of the trailer pantry. Bill will also be working on a project out there so he will probably have A/C on. Going to be a very low key day.

Supper - I think a chef's salad is in order, given the heat. I'll add cold pickled beets, garbanzo beans, boiled egg, shredded cheese, thawed peas, and bacon bits as well as the fresh veggies. I am already hungry!

What's your favorite hot weather meal?

Good morning!

Mary - Michael is very picky about tires. Especially the tread pattern. The tires have to have a open tread pattern on the side of the tire, so that the snow has a place to escape. We used Michelin tires for years. Not sure what all weather brand we will get this time. I just know that they are very expensive! And that the new tires will not be a Big O tire. The tread design was part of the cause of a rollover accident we had in the snow 35 years ago. After that, we switched to Michelin 's. Happy jamming! Sarah is doing well.

Sarah went to take her trailer home last night, but thought the plug on the truck was wired differently than the trailer, as things weren't working well. So since the trailer is just up the street from me, the truck was in my garage getting the wiring tested. Finally solved the issue. They plug on her truck was corroded and dirty. They are cleaning it up and then the trailer will go to her house. It may live at my house for a time when the concrete pad is poured, or over at Sandee's, just in from of the big RV. Sandee and Scott aren't going out in any time soon. Sandee is starting back teaching - online - it is too dangerous for her otherwise. Sandee has many of the dangerous health problems and her doctor has told her to stay out of public, period! Her school wants her back in the classroom, so she is working with them to do a bit online and do all the paperwork for the government- special needs students have forms, etc, that can be a nightmare, if not done right. Sandee has been doing the paperwork for 25 years. Sandee will be supervising the online teaching for Ethan and Gracie this year. Sarah is doing all the work of teaching both of them at her house as well. This is Gracie's kindergarten year and with all the rules and restrictions, Aaron and Kate, felt it would be best to start Gracie at home. Gracie will get a great headstart with Sandee and Sarah.

Not much here. I do expect to be invaded later this afternoon with Matt and tribe

Dinner turned out wonderfully! The prime rib was done perfectly. My recipe, from Paula Deen has yet to fail me. So that will be dinner again, tonight. Maybe I will make a batch of Yorkshire puddings this time. In California, I made them easily, here in the altitude, it is a whole different beast! More failures than not, but Sarah and I have found a recipe that works in the altitude.

So I will be putting binding on Ethan's quilt, and the rick rack edging on a bunch of potholders.

Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana
