SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Aug 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 07, 2020 6:51 am

Good morning,

I am out on the deck, coffee next to computer, listening to the neighbors' chickens. Their little ones are just learning to cluck and crow. I'm loving it! Such a concert I'm getting this morning! As to our neighbor on the other side, Miss Vicki, the state, in their infinite wisdom, has deemed her capable to remain living on her own. Her family is beyond frustrated and vow to keep trying. She has cleaned up most of the kitchen garbage that she's thrown around outside, which is our big deal - it draws the rats, tempts our dog and really decreases the value of our property. She hasn't been too annoying lately, though right now she is outside banging on something - her way of sending us a message expressing her feelings about us.

Yesterday was grocery shopping at Costco and Fred Meyer (our Kroger). Took us 'til suppertime to get it all inside, wiped down, and put away. But our freezer and pantries are full now, though I need to tidy them up today and pack the trailer. We'll only be gone 3 nights this trip - Mon, Tues, Wed - but we'll be leaving again Sept 3rd for Yellowstone for another two weeks - so I'm keeping that in mind as I'm stocking the pantry out there.

I got the binding on RWB yesterday morning and now Dizzy Daizy is on the frame. I HOPE to have it all finished, too, by Sunday. I will quilt the next few tops myself, freehand. First one up will be my yo-yo quilt.

TINA - You'll be so happy to have your house all purged! It's a great, light feeling. My massage therapist was closed for 3 months. And now he cleans everything meticulously, has to change his clothes between each client, takes temps, and asks questions about travel and contacts. He had to buy 22 new sets of sheets and blankets for his benc, and does 3 loads of laundry every day after work. His office is in a hotel here and now his clients have to wait in the lobby until he fetches them instead of his tiny reception area. He wears a mask, of course, and so must his clients.

BECCA - Your bears will be a hit, I know! They are adorable!

JANA - that's a lot of pot holders! (I called them hot polders when I was little and that still slips out sometimes. :D ) But they will be much loved, I'm sure. Pairing them with a goodie will make a purrfect gift! I hope the FIL mess isn't as bad as it sounds like it could be. I was given a 5-ring Betty Crocker cookbook for a shower gift in Jan, 1971 (almost 50 years!). Also, BC's "Dinner for Two" cookbook. I was given updated version in 1988, so Autumn now treasures my first one. And I still have Dinner For Two (signed by my Mom!) - singed and still smells smokey after 35 years, but it's intact and fun to use!

CAROL - when you find a good anything, it bears repeating! :D

Tonite's supper is going to be Yankee Dip sandwiches (French dip made with burger instead), corn on the cob, and a salad. Pretty easy.

What's YOUR easy idea?

Good morning!

Ethan is off to his DDS appointment. Now, all that my kitchen needs, is the electrician that lives in this house, to make all the electrical outlets safe - screwed in place, covers on. He is being good and taking out the garbage right now, so he gets a pass, for a minute! LOL!

Dinner - too early to decide, but maybe chicken enchiladas.

Mary - a big ugh! That the state, in their infinite wisdom, said Vicki is allowed to stay in that situation! Her family needs to keep fighting! Are you staying in Yellowstone or at a outside campground. Out the south gate side of the park, is Jackson Hole and the Tetons, some beautiful country! Then again, out the west side of the park is where I went to college - Rexburg, Idaho, more beautiful country. And the other side of the Tetons. But also a nasty downgrade from Driggs to Jackson Hole. Still fun! I have lots of fun stories from travels in that area.

Becca - there were times I would think I wanted to live along the water, then saw all the problems. I sure like where I am now!

I will do more sewing, my fabric arrived and I now can cut more of the lattices and bottom "crusts" . Ran out of that fabric last week.

Aaron is on call - a fire in Parleys Canyon, I-80, is needing to have the road closed in both directions, to be able to fight that fire. It is his normal day off. He and Kate just refi-ed their home. So great to be rid of some of the required stuff from the original loan. Saves them nearly 600 dollars a month! This was possible because they own more - appraised value - that 20 percent, so no mortgage insurance is now needed. This helps them so much!

So around here, it's the same stuff different day.

Hugs,
Jana

Good afternoon from sunny, warm, SW. Pa....It really is a pretty day but we might get some showers later this evening or over night...Hopefully, over night.....
These last couple of days have been crazy or should I say, crazier, than normal....Yesterday, I opened the front door to get my paper and there was a huge box on the porch....This was a little after 8:00 so I'm not sure when Amazon delivered and/or how many men it took...Kathy has told me to expect a few boxes this week but I'm thinking, she had ordered stuff for Lena...BUT, this box was for me or maybe I should say, her...She ordered a Queen size head board and frame (for in her bedroom, lol)...Then she told me, Jackie and Steve are bringing the mattress when they come today, which should be in the next hour or so.....Then she told me her flight wouldn't be coming in until 10:00 tonight instead of 4:00..Thank goodness the car knows the way to the airport!

Mary, so sorry to hear about the decision on Vickie...That, to me, sounds like abuse on both parties, you and Bill and Vickie.....If it wouldn't be for causing a lot of publicity and embarrassment, I'd consider going to the media...Those laws in your state need to be changed......But, at least you'll be away for a couple of days...Funny how everyone has those Betty Crocker cook books....For many years, the 2 things in my kitchen that I needed to survive were my pressure cooker and that cookbook....Funny thing about that cookbook, when Terry and ex were separating, making that list of stuff each wanted, the ex HAD to have that cookbook...Terry was the one who had done all the cooking, she didn't even know how to use the stove but she had to have that book...So, Terry went through the book and being a loose leaf binder, took all the recipes he used and there was a lot....So, she got the book but he got his recipes...And I'd bet anything, that cook book is still packed in one of the boxes where ever she moved....

Becca, you too have had a busy day so far.....And your dinner sounds yummy......

Jana, I too had wished to live closer to water but when you see what happens, I'm glad I'm inland...What great Christmas gifts you're going to have......I think a couple of the kids who have mortgages have refinanced and really saving money, thank goodness.....

I have an hour or so before Jackie and Steve get here so I'm going to hop in the shower and put on decent clothes.....Gave the whole house a cleaning, washed the rugs in both bathrooms, even did all the floors, so I really need that shower.....Not sure if they'll stay for dinner or if they have plans with her dad...We can always order a pizza...Then tonight about 8:45, Ruby and I will head for the airport....At least, we won't have any traffic...My sister doesn't think she'll be going with me...She has a bad back and this morning her chiropractor told her, she shouldn't be doing anything and an hour in the car wouldn't be the best thing, I'm sure.....If BabyGirl wouldn't cry the whole way, I'd take her with me, l0l.....

You all have a great rest of the day......

Happy eating.................

Tonight's dinner will be Chicken Parmesan and Spaghetti with sauce.

I have a Betty Crocker Cookbook circa 1971 and Dinner for Two as well. I also have the Cookie Book in my collection of BC cookbooks. At an estate sale a few years ago I found two copies of the 1950 version of the Betty Crocker Cookbook. I gave one away to a friend but often use all of those copies. The ice cream recipe I used was in the 1971 version. I rely on the Betty Crocker Cookbooks. The recipes always are good and work.
