SUPPER CLUB - Sat, March 2nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Mar 02, 2019 2:50 am

Good morning!

We are about 34* this morning. We should be sunny and go to almost 50* again today! It feels so good! Still below normal for this time of year in the PNW, but we'll take it! We got a lot more work done in the yard - cutting up downed branches, trimming back rhodies that were damaged by snow, pruning huckleberries, raking, etc. We weren't anywhere near Vicki's house, but she was outside just the same, keeping her eyes on us to make sure we weren't stealing her property. She eventually went back into her house but stayed by a window, watching. When we were done and parking the tractor back in the shop, she started banging on the window at us. I just smiled big and waved back friendly. She turned away from me in a huff. Any work we want to do close to her property line, we'll try to get done tomorrow morning while she's gone with the kids. Last Sunday they were only gone 1 hr and 5 min though. I think she gets antsy, thinking we might be making off with her property while she's gone, so wants to come home quickly. Her gait is much more uneven and stumbly now. We keep wondering how much longer she can manage on her own.

In sewing news, I finished putting together the final UFO project. So my ISBS is almost half-finished being quilted and I have two more 70" tops to quilt but Bill will do those with the Q-bot. Today I plan to make a Go Bag for our friends who got a new puppy. We're going to visit tomorrow night and I want to take a new baby gift. We received one from our other friends when Scott was a newbie. So handy for taking all that doggie gear with you when you take your puppy places.

JANA - I never got back here yesterday to read posts so when you said in the sew-in that you'd made 7 batches of buttercream I was corn-fused. Sounded like a wedding cake to me but I couldn't think who was getting married other than Kate's sister and I didn't think you were doing her cake. Now I know! I bet that frosting is de-lish! How fun to do projects - any projects - with your Sarah!

CHICKIE - sounds like Mom is settling in and I'm sure this is making things so much easier for you and your sister. What are you going to do with her house now? Don't let Doyal buy it for a rental!!! Are you in negative temps this weekend? Sure wish you'd warm up! I get chilly reading about your weather. You know, my brother in North Pole, AK is warmer than you are!

BECCA - oh, I'm sorry you missed the turkeys! Once we camped for a few days at a county park in Julian, CA, only a few miles from El's log home. There was a big flock of wild turkeys that lived in the park. They were so fun to watch as we don't have them here. And yes, DH#1 was Michael. And so is my son. And my son looks so much like his dad, right down to the same mannerisms. Even their handwriting is similar! My DH#2 was named Roy.

JANA - again! Love your idea of making the bottom tier of the cake out of rice krispie treats. I also love the idea of kids at a wedding. Family is what it's all about, anyway! And kids (and some grammas!) do love Rice Krispie Treats!

TINA - how is Jaz today? She's been one sick little girl!

IRISH - I know you're still having a good time with Kathy and Lena. Your smoocher is probably work out by now! lol!

Well, we made it through the turkey - only one last casserole serving left and Bill can have that for lunch today. Tonite we're moving on to new food - chicken fajitas.

What's on your menu for tonite?

OK - disaster under control and I am now done. The frosting seized and would not rebeat and create a smooth consistency to spread. So we punted that batch into smaller ziplocks and will use it like honey butter on rolls etc.

Sarah's DH ran to the store for more butter. We had enough to get started before he got back. Used those to crumb coat and Sandee came over and helped make the new batches with me. Which spread and frosted like a dream. The tiers are beautiful - the buttercream is smooth as glass! The gumpaste flowers are magnolias, look fantastic and the color of them and the buttercream are perfect! Sarah is putting the final borders on at the place of the reception, just a few blocks from my house.

Dinner - TAKE OUT! My kitchen is clean, the girls have been really great about keeping the mess under control.

Enjoy!
