SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Feb17
Good morning!
We're still thawing. We now have a lake in our back yard. Bill took a photo and sent it to friends who have just spent a week in their RV on the Gulf coast of Mexico. We told them we were going canoeing on our back yard. And we could do that! I did say I love snow and am enjoying what we have, but if I had this all winter long, every year, I probably wouldn't be so elated. Or if we had 88"! I'm only 59" tall!
I finished my Bjorn Bear quilt top. It turned out quite cute. I think it's about 51" x 55". Today I'll put binding on Orca. I also got a lot of uglies done yesterday. There are more to do today, a biggie being laundry.
CHICKIE - Ice is definitely a different critter than soft, pretty snow! Fabric softener isn't worth risking an accident, for sure. You could always put off the laundry. I find all sorts of reasons to do that! Looking for another one today! lol! When is Brynn coming by? I know she's going to be very pleased, but if she knows you at all, I doubt she'll be that surprised at your beautiful gifts!
IRISH - what a sweet way to remember your Jim! I'm sure there was much laughing among the tears. And yes, even a private pet gives off loving energy. we certainly miss our Riley and Snickers, too. As exciting as 3 eggs would be I almost hope there isn't so there's less competition for the food and everyone gets what they need. A baby quilt will be fun to make. Elizabeth Hartman also has kitties, unicorns, penguins, puppies, foxes, hedgehogs, and bunnies. And there is a free pattern, all applique, on-line called Calico Zoo. It's zoo animals. I made it a few years ago. Or traditional quilt blocks are nice made in baby/toddler fabric. I love baby quilts!
BECCA - I've heard of elderberry wine, but never the syrup. We have elderberries all over here. They grow wild. Glad you got outside to get some natural Vit D. Feels so good after being cooped up because of bad weather.
JANA - I bet those cakes are wonderful! Is the doll cake the one where the doll is in the middle and the cake is the 'skirt'? My mom made me one like that for my 6th birthday. And I made them for my girls' 6th birthdays. I used to make special cakes for all their birthdays - lady bugs, sports equipment, kitties, butterflies, etc. I even made my dad a chainsaw cake (he was a logger) and Fred Basset, the cartoon dog, once. (he was a logger who loved Fred Basset). They are fun to do!
Our supper last night of pork cutlets with a cranberry glaze was really good, if I do say so myself. We have lots of leftovers so it will be pork noodles, and peas for the next few days.
What's in your supper future?

Good morning!
Mary - yes, the doll cake is the doll stuck in the cake skirt. We also had a disaster with it too. Twice! The cake pan is shorter than the Arial doll, so I had baked the extra batter into cupcakes. They served as a base, trimmed, to raise the height. Then when I added the doll, she was a bit tubby, she split the front of her skirt open a bit. But being a seamtress I didn't panic. Michael did! LOL! I just took the extra frosting and filled in the rip! Voile, she looks great! The train cake came out cute too. I have done different cakes over the years too with my kids. That makes great family memories!
Church is a bit later. I am the chorister today. Simple hymns, I can handle that! Hopefully we will call a new chorister to do the Sunday services and I can hide in the background. I do like to stay in the background.
The family will be here tonight for dinner. Tomorrow will be my rest up day!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from now, dreary, looking like rain or snow and getting cold.....We started out with sun, brilliant sun and now, yuck!
Mary, Another quilt finished! You are just a quilt maken machine, aren't you? Really anxious to see your finished products....Really haven't decided on the baby quilt but now, I'm looking for panels to make the cloth books for Lena....Cari sent me a video of Lena trying to out talk a new talking toy...She's quite the ham and I get to see her next week!
The birthday toast was extra special...Was so happy Terry thought of it...I can imagine Jim was getting a good laugh with it, also.....
I'm also hoping for just the 2 eagle eggs, makes it so much easier on the parents....
Jana, You were right about the name, it was Dr. Russell Nelson. What a speaker, very inspiring...Kathy used to be our decorator and had made a few of those dolls...We used to laugh because it usually took her some time and when done, the kitchen took twice as long to clean..Thank goodness she moved on to another career, lol....
Becca, I had never heard about the elderberry juice but my Mom used to make wine and of course elderberry jam and the pies were to die for...Do miss those good old "goodies"...Sure hope you're feeling better and getting those numbers where they should be...I go for my visit on Tuesday and not looking forward to it...Maybe it will snow and I can cancel again, lol....
This morning there was an early Mass for Jim and then on the way home, I stopped to drop off neighbor Ted's birthday card and was invited for breakfast...What a treat, good friends, very good breakfast...Then I came home, tried to read the paper and fell asleep and now, I'm going to be going to my sisters for her stuffed meatloaf dinner...Might just take a bag with me in case it does snow, I'll just stay over.....
You all have a good rest of the day......
Happy eating.........

Good afternoon! We are thawing! Of course, more snow/ice to come on Tuesday. But, thawing and mid-30s is wonderful along with some sun! We can hardly get through our driveway. DH almost got the car stuck in the mud. We’ll be investing in a bunch of loads of rock again soon.
I got a kick out of the doll cakes. I used to make them all the time. Once I made one and “dressed” her as a bride to serve at a bridal shower. She was a huge hit.
Jana—that’s too funny about your using your seamstress skills to repair the doll cake’s skirt! I used to make a paper cone to fit the doll to the skirt. I’d decorate it like the cake. I had a couple of different bundt-type pans that I used.
I’m not sure when the placemats/runners will get picked up. I thought today, but the kids may have been busy. Well, they will be here. If she knew what all I did, I’m sure she’d be right here. They live about 20 miles from us. I didn’t tell her what I made; I wanted it to be a surprise.
Irish—what a lovely celebration for Jim! Know you are enjoying a full tummy today! We worry about you! Hope you took a carry home container in case you don’t spend the night with your sis.
Becca—hope you are feeling better! Try not to get out and around people!!! I really despise the ice! I’m trying to take less chances on it than I used to.
Dinner tonight will be some sort of leftovers and must goes. I made baked potato soup last night, and it was delicious. There is a little of it left as well as some beef tips and DH’s hamburger steak. I might make some soup with the beef. Have I told you that I just love any kind of soup!!!
Bon appétit!
