SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, May 24th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu May 24, 2018 3:36 am

Good morning!

Yesterday I made some good progress on my Santa blocks and Bill did two more passes quilting the bargello. He may get it finished today. If not, then tomorrow. It's so big that I may move my machine out to the dining room table to sew on the binding. Will be so glad to have this one done! It's a bucket list quilt.

Last night we had a nice evening with my nephew and his wife. It was James' 53rd birthday and he was surprised that I would remember (silly boy! I have 17 nieces and nephews and I remember ALL their birthdays!), but also I made him a cake. They stayed until 10:30 and that's WAAAY past my bedtime. I almost fell asleep, head in my dessert plate! Today is another nephew's birthday. This one is also my godson. But I won't be seeing him. He's in Alaska.

CHICKIE - I just can't believe your renters! Though my massage therapist also has a rental, a home once owned by friends of ours so I've been in that little rambler. He said once he had to go for a repair and get to the electrical box which was in the bathroom. Apparently the renter had a big dog that he kept locked in there and David said he had to get a shovel to clear the poop first because there wasn't even a place to step. When that renter moved out, the house had to be gutted and redone completely - only to be destroyed again by the next renter! My sis had similiar experiences. I am so ashamed of humanity!

JANA - I can see your Santa fireplace screen now! You''ll have a good time making that. Be a nice switch from fabric for your art medium.

TINA - the end of school picnic sounds like a fun tradition. My tradition was to toss my uniform in a corner for 3 months and race outside! lol!! I don't think we came in again except to eat and sleep all summer long. (Oh, we wore uniforms at our school.)

BECKY - funny what kids will pick out to have a fit over. I was a good little girl. Honest. Kids teased me because I was so good. Yet, one time, while camping, my mom was cooking potatoes over the fire. I heard her laugh and tell my dad she forgot to put salt in the potatoes. I can clearly remember the hissy fit I threw when they tried to make me eat UNSALTED potatoes!! I cried and they threatened. Heck! I didn't even know salt went into potatoes but for some reason something clicked in my little head when I heard mom make that comment.

BECCA - your yard must be a showplace by now! Mine's pretty, but is getting to be a jungle!

IRISH - I hope all is going OK with you. We had a soaring eagle over our house yesterday and of course, I thought of you! How is your DBIL doing? Any significant improvement yet?

We have leftover potato salad and baked beans, so that will be supper tonite. We may grill chicken or pork chops to go with or bake my frozen mini meatloaves. We'll see how hungry Billious is tonite.

Happy Supper!

Good morning!

Well the best laid plans - I thought that my saw was back from Matt, not! And he won't be home until Tuesday. At least I can get the pattern ready. I will need to gather paint as well. When we moved, I had to get rid of all my bottles of paint, close to 200 of them. So will restart my collection again.

Found a rack of ribs in the freezer, so will cook them. That will give me several meals this weekend.

Mary - great news on the bargello! I would be sewing down the binding for several days - I do mine by hand. Never got the hang of doing it by machine.

Enjoy!

Good morning :)
Frankie is doing yard work today since the chicken coop is done enough to use. It still needs a few little things but they can be done anytime he has a spare minute. We only had 2 chicks hatch out of this newest batch and the 2nd one Frankie had to help out, it's looking a little rough, we hope it makes it, the 1st one is thriving.
I'm not sure about supper again LOL I didn't have to cook last night, Frankie threw a couple hotdogs on the grill and we had pork n beans and cottage cheese for me...he can't stand it. I'll have to cook tonight though cause Dad will be here and maybe Jazmyne. The Dr says Dad needs to lose weight, I give him healthy here pretty much but he gets big huge meals at my brother's house.

Good afternoon from another gorgeous day in SW. Pa....No complaints from me, this is great.....

Mary, 1st, I was so happy to hear Riley is OK These fur kids sure do put the scare in a person sometimes....Wow, you are so lucky to be able to see an eagle...The closest I get is watching on the computer, lol...

I just don't understand the people who rent and also destroy...What are they thinking??? And, you know, if they have kids, they'll grow up to be the same as the parents...Terrible.....

I have been busy but then I look around and wonder what did I do....Yesterday, Terry, Theresa and Nick came down for dinner so of course I had to have some goodies and made an apple braid, oh so good....We were going to go and start planting at the cemetery but after we ate and then sat around, no one wanted to move so, now it's on hold until Sat. Nothing like waiting until the last minute....

And, my sister also called and asked if I'd get her flowers and since, she's not allowed to drive, would I stop by and take her to the cemetery...AND then this morning, as I was pulling into the parking lot to get her flowers, she called and said, they were taking her DH back to the hospital...He has been in and out for months, one infection after the other...And she keeps hoping, as soon as he gets strong enough, she wants to bring him home..She even turned her big living room into a bedroom with a bath, so he wouldn't have to go upstairs.....So, instead of helping her I came home and hopefully, I'll get something done around here....
This weekend, Cari is coming and I am so darn excited...She sent me pictures of the baby and would you believe, that little girl was actually waving....Her due date is Oct 1st (their 2nd wedding anniversary)....

Gonna scoot and get outside and maybe do battle with some weeds....Of course I could be working on my flower beds and get some of my flats planted....

As for dinner, I have left over swiss steak and all the fixings from last night, so I won't go hungry.....Had made an Éclair dessert to take to my sister but that might not make it to her house.....

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating..............

Good afternoon! LATE here today! I got busy when DH came home and just now finding my computer. Yesterday I made the mints for the wedding. They are yellow sunflowers with mint chocolate brown centers. Today I delivered them, and one of the bride’s sisters put them in the freezer. I wanted to have them finished in case I was doing a lot of rental stuff. The other grandma was ironing table cloths (55 of them!) on a tiny fold down ironing board. I don’t have a big board, but I do have an old (probably from 50s) oversize ironing board in my sewing room which I took back over to her. She was thrilled. So… back here to help DH load some wood he split, some lunch, and now to my sewing room after checking in here.

Mary—sounds like a fun evening! You are good to remember ALL those birthdays! I am lousy with dates! You were up late… for you!

Your massage therapist’s renters sound like relatives of our renters! We use a lot of Clorox. I even use it in the rug shampooer. We get more life out of the carpets so they can be trashed again. We can’t afford to replace the carpets after every renter. I’m going to try to get DH to take some of it up this time and put down laminate, but we’ll see if he will do it or not. He hates to spend money if I can get the job done. (Yes, something is wrong with that picture! He doesn’t realize it would be cheaper to do the repairs than pay for my retail therapy!!!) I’m ashamed of humanity, too.

Tina—I love the picnic tradition!

Jana—I used to have a lot of painting books, too! And, I painted. I haven’t painted much in ages. Dinner sounds wonderful! Ever since I saw bindings by machine I haven’t done them by hand.

Becca—I picked some strawberries this morning and weeded some. I really wish DH would stay on the weeding of them. So sorry about your DH’s bloodwork! I have a tea box that says “Keep calm and carry on” the famous British war motto. We do it every day as women, wives, moms, grandmas…

Irish—I think I’ll come to your house for apple braid! We take fresh flowers to the graves on Monday… talk about last minute. I’m out in the hay meadow picking wildflowers and scrounging in my yard that morning! So sorry about your DBIL! I hope your sis will get home health to come in and help her! They were a lifesaver for me. I’m so thrilled you have a new baby to look forward to!

Tina—Frankie is a dream to be doing yard work and all his work on the chicken coop! It’s hard to get eggs to hatch in a home incubator. Things always went awry with ours. Not good!!! Hope you can keep your dad on track with his diet! I had cottage cheese for breakfast this morning! I love it!

Dinner here will be hamburger patties and a veggie for DH. I’ll probably have a salad. Tomorrow we go to DH’s doctor for his 6-week check up and release to whatever he wants to eat—in moderation and small portions. I have a feeling he will want to stop at the chicken place for gizzards on the way home!

We had some news here Sunday that I forgot to report. One of the grandsons is now engaged, so another wedding in the future. They haven’t set a date yet. This is to the girl who graduated from nursing school last week. No one was surprised, but it was so sweet of them to come by and tell us and show us the pretty, antique-style ring.

Now… to my sewing room! Bon appétit!

Covers finally installed! After a phone call, he was here in fuve minutes - hummm.... that was at 3:30 pm. But, there is slways a big but, he will be back tomorrow to adjust one that is too tight.

Now to head to Costco.

It is Kate's BD today. Aaron and her are going on Monday to Logan to clean the headstone and plant some new flowers in the side of the base - built in planter - of the stone on the grandparents grave. DH's father and mother. DH's father was in the Marine Coro, so Aaron found a small Marine Corp flag to go along with the American flag on the gravesite. My parents and family are all in the same cemetery in California, in a very not safe neighborhood, so nothing there. But that would be fine with my dad, as he always mowed over what flowers my mom planted, as if they were weeds. We still smile at Dad's landscsping skills!

I had fun packaging up my block lotto. I love doing it, because it is the best part of quilting - doing up blocks! It is on the late side of the month, so will send it priority! It is like I get a fun, managable project every month.

We had chicken noodle soup and biscuits for supper. A little heavy on the carbs, but delicious.

My dogs are both rescues, Mary. We got Zoey, first. We had asked for both, but they told us Daphne wasn't ready, yet. Zoey is a liver colored lab mix. I sometimes think there is border collie in there for the noises and need for order. I think of Irish Setter for her color and silky coat. She is a scared dog. She was beside herself with fear in the rescue. When she got home, she ran from the door, through the house and into my bedroom closet. She stayed in the closet for weeks. We put a water dish in there with her, but I refused to put her food in, too. She needed to get some walking in sometimes. So she went out in the middle of the night, when she was sure we were in bed. She ate and did her business, and rushed back in the closet. We had to get pee pads. There was no way to make her go outside, the poor thing. We did a blog, for a while, that I like to look back at to remember how it was. It is written by Zoey. If you want to look it up, it is at littlepupred.blogspot.com.

Well, a couple weeks later, my aunt saw an ad in the paper that Daphne was available to adopt. Dan and I both called the place, and they said they hadn't realized we wanted her, too. Daphne is a "lab mix" according to the rescue. She is Great Dane for sure. Her vet and I also think there is a lot of pitty in her. She is pretty black, and her ears stick out like the flying nun whenever she is interested in something. She has had a hard time with ear infections. We have her on a med that costs $70 a month that is expected to be 3-5 years. With all the cultures and exams and vet placed meds too, she's spensive.

Daphne coming home was good for Zoey. She came out of the closet. She did end up eating all kinds of things and needed surgery. She is spensive, too. The only times she goes outside is to go to the vet, and it is a terrifying day, when that happens. She hops back and forth in the car trying to evade having to leave it. She used to poop in the car in fear. Now it is usually at the inner door at the vet.

They are my husband's and my baby-girls.
