SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, April 10

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Apr 10, 2018 4:20 am

Good morning!

Yesterday was so nice I went everywhere without a jacket of any kind. Not even my usual plaid flannel overshirt! We even ate dinner out on the deck, `ala summertime! But this morning is definitely a different story. No chirping birds to greet the dawn - I wonder where they go in the rain? We don't have leaves yet to shelter them . . .

Our blood donation yesterday was a bust. We BOTH got rejected! This has never happened before. Both slightly anemic, they say. Told us to go home and eat some red meat. Sigh. So we grilled burgers and piled fresh spinach on top while we read the backs of our vitamin bottles. This is really ironic because I was just thinking yesterday how healthy I've felt lately! lol!

PAM - I'm in your hubby's camp. The above paragraph will tell you I'm not a big meat eater. I prefer my taco's to be nearly vegetarian, too. Beans are the way to go for me! High five him for me, would you?

LINDA - glad your hubby got released from jury duty. our friend was on a case like that and it was horrible for him. Though he found the legal process interesting. I'm really excited for the man cave! He will have fun setting up his workshop kind of like us setting up sewing rooms. I just want to come down there and organize it all for him! lol!

JANA - we've been to Crater Lake, too, a few times. Always seems to be snow, even in summer. We've hiked the two miles down to the lake's edge (and back up!), We've camped at Diamond Lake just north of Crater Lake. MOSQUITOS!! On this trip we will also be spending a few nights in Sisters, OR. As I think everyone knows, they have a quilt shop there that has revitalized the town. Though, to be honest, they never seem to have fabric that appeals to me. I usually do manage to find something to buy because, hey! It's Sisters! I'm almost ready for Lila. How about you?

CHICKIE - sending prayers and good vibes to both Doyal and your DD. And YOU! Thank you on the bargello comments. When I buy a new book or pattern I always write in the front of it when and where I got the book. And I got the book with this pattern in it Oct 21, 2010 when I was with you, in Parsons, at a shop going out of business. When I make a comfort, encouragement type of quilt, I like it to be small enough to snuggle under on the couch while watching TV. So I think your hexi qiult for your DD will be purrfect size. Levi is seeing someone new? Nice!!! I hope she's not crazy. He better have her tested. ;o

BECKY - you tell your DGS I also like white cake (though prefer chocolate frosting), and white ice cream. In fact, white is my favorite food color! Potatoes, pasta, bread, rice, pie (crust is the best part! ) lol! Nice to have visits with family. Especially if they are staying somewhere besides your house! and the uglies will always wait. Uglies are very patient and they thrive and grow well while being neglected . .

BECCA - congratulations to your new doctor!! What a long haul it's been for them! But life will be worth it in the long run. Glad your yesterday is over. Sorry about your friend.

Well, in honor of our anemia, I think tonite we'll be having spaghetti and meatballs with spinach salad on the side. We'll 'beef up' our eating habits and try to donate again next month. We'll see if we've made progress. I hate the thought of taking pills for anything, so holding off on supplements for now.

So, what about you all? What's for supper at your house?

Good morning! I went everywhere with a coat yesterday—walking dogs and checking cows/calves (no new babies). I’m ready for shirtsleeves! Today should be better, but it was 28 and windshield frost covered when I went to take care of Choc early.

Mary—a lot of senior vitamins don’t include much iron. Sorry you are both such rejects! The birds here sit in the trees in the rain and wait for me to put out seed in the feeders.

Pam—you and your DH are opposite of my DH and I. He is the carnivore and I’m the almost vegetarian. We can about split a meal out—steak for him and baked potato for me. Of course, things are about to change drastically here—they already have. (He’s having bariatric surgery this week.) I have a pile of UFOs as well. I must have a very short attention span. Small, quick projects are more my forte. I bet the dog portrait is going to be awesome!

Becca—sending condolences to you. I’m sure you will miss your friend. On the other hand--sounds like lots of good stuff happening with your family! Congratulations to your DGSIL!

Rose—DH was that way, too. We had the house built, but he worked with the contractor, and he finished his garage/shop. You are really keeping busy!!! Oh, that would be a tough case to be selected for jury duty! I’ve never been called.

Becky—snow! YIKES!!! We missed all but a skiff of it. The ribbons would be a sight for sure! I was putting borders on DD’s quilt and had to rip one off—got the directional print the wrong direction… after looking at it several times! I just had a difficult time wrapping my head around it, I guess. Paper piecing and I really have a difficult time.

DD looked up her health info online and found the scans were clear… the mystery continues. She has another appointment this week…

Mary—that’s so cool you got the quilt pattern when you were with me!!! I knew we went to the shop in Edna—for some reason I can’t remember Parsons. My brain is full of holes! DS’s girlfriend seems sane—LOL!!! She is real nice—very quiet, but maybe I just don’t know her too well.

Jana—still on baby watch???

I finished the top for DD’s quilt, and I started piecing the back using a bunch of different Tabby Road fabrics. The back will be just as colorful as the front! She will love it! I should get the back finished today in between dog walking trips. DH has a meeting for Area Agency on Aging, and I’ll have time to myself. I probably won’t get started quilting until next week sometime. I have a dental appointment on Monday, and DH’s sister will probably be here for several days… She says she is coming, so…

Dinner tonight… salad for me; broth for DH. Boring for him. Yummy for me!

Bon appétit!

Good afternoon!

Mary - so sorry for the rejection - we get rejected here too - Michael for diabetes and me for being a chicken! The boys enjoyed Crater Lake and the LQS that I found was in Klammath Falls where we stayed. When we headed back south to California we took the scenic route following the Western Pacific's High line that took us back through the Feather River Canyon. How else would a railroad family go! LOL!

Chickie - I had a hunch that whats Doyle's surgery was. My niece and nephew across the street are doing extremely well since their surgeries. They both have each lost over 100+lbs. They both use the protein powder drinks to supplement the food intake. Their surgeries were less than a year ago.

Becca - prayers of comfort to you and your friend's family.

Ethan is here - he and Michael are doing the shoulder exercises - Michael does the work - Ethan counts. They are also straightening up the family area of the Batt Cave - it needs it! Toys out everywhere! Ethan is very good at keeping the toys put away - it is the others that leave them out.

Dinner - left over corned beef sandwiches - probably pannini style with swiss cheese. Salad too.

Saw a Fons and Porter show this weekend with a fun quilt made with a sunflower border - so I just went and found the fabric for that quilt and downloaded the pattern as well. Just need to go over to my LQS and get the TOT white for the background when the other pieces arrive. The fabric line is Here Comes the Sun by Bernartex. Found the fabric at Missouri Star and Fabric.com. Like I need another set of fabrics! LOL

Lila is still hiding - only 3 more days for her choice of arrival date - Saturday is the final day! Kate bought a cute set of shirts for the the two girls - Gracie's says - I am the Big Sister - Lila's says, I am the little sister - both pink. That is what Lila will wear home from the hospital.

Enjoy!

Good afternoon from a chilly, now dreary, SW. Pa...We had sun all morning but now it's clouded over...But, warmer temps are coming and will be here in time for me to leave for Florida, lol....

Mary, I have never been able to give blood, they usually ask if they can give me some....And I too am not a big meat eater, would rather have the veggies and/or salad...Jim was the meat and potatoes guy, loved his beef or chicken gravy and mashed potatoes....I really do miss cooking for him....Hopefully, when Nick is here for the summer, I'll get back to the stove (unless he takes over)....And you asked when I'm jumping on the plane....Next Tuesday, the 17th, I have a 7:00 AM flight, getting down there at 9:30 and will be home the following week, Wed. 25th..(I know she's going to try to talk me into staying longer)...Virginia has so many different things going on, it was hard to plan when she could pick me up, lol...She's 88 and runs circles around everyone...But, sadly, every time I talk to her, one of our friends has passed away...But she still visits a gal who will turn on 105 in June...I am anxious to get into some summer like clothes and sit on her porch or even at the pool and really catch up....

Becca, not much to report in this neck of the woods...I imagine your weather is nicer and hopefully, you're able to get out and start playing in the dirt.....Your friend sounds like she was a special person...Keep all the memories close to your heart....

Chickie, I sure wouldn't be able to go without a coat in this part of the country...AND for sure, no one will ever hear me complain about summer heat, that's for sure....Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers for DH, DD and of course you.....

Today is a stay at home and I have my list of "to dos" sitting right here on my desk and haven't done 1 thing on that list....I did strip my bed and while I was starting the laundry, decided to start cleaning off Jim's work bench, probably a big mistake, lol...He had collected so many newspaper articles, Notre Dame programs, things that date back in the 1960s and I've been sorting...So much that no one will ever need/want, so sad to say, I've been tossing..Also sorted a lot of the tools...I keep telling the kids, if there's anything they need, come and get it...Just leave me the basics...But, that part of the basement is looking pretty darn good, I think he'd approve...
I have been trying to catch up on my mending, mostly hemming (did 8 pair of pants for my DS)and I was pulling fabric for a runner...Still need to get to JoAnn's and get some pink baby yarn and of course anything else that might jump in the cart..Friday, I'm meeting my Ds and 2 other gals for lunch and hopefully, I'll get to do my shopping...

As for my dinner, I have a couple of those little dinners and tonight just might be baked ziti and maybe a salad....But, till then, something else might fall out of the freezer.....

You all have a good day.....

Happy eating..............

Hi ladies.
Just seem to fly by anymore. Tonight, we are supposed to go to JR's folks for dinner with them and the aunt and uncle before they leave....SIGH....she used to be such a good cook, not so much anymore. JR told me that we may have to run thru a drive thru on the way home. LOL....
Not sure what we are having, but she asked me to bring a half gallon of ice cream.....JR just looked at me and said only a half gallon? I know that his dad likes it too, so I will bring a few choices.....
Say a prayer for me....LOL...Becky

Mary, do you have a cast iron pot? They say they really can help with iron, especially if you cook with tomatoes (acid). You could make chili, or tomato sauce, or barley soup with tomatoes! I read an article where they were passing out cast iron pots in Africa to combat iron defficiencies.

Linda, my Aunt had to go to Buffalo for jury duty. It was 1 1/2 hour drive for her. Luckily it was only a week of it and she didn't get picked to go on. She talked to someone who did get picked, and it was a couple months of driving to Buffalo.

Becky, it never hurts to bring extra Ice Cream. You can just say hubby wanted choices.

Irish, it was in the high 30's and sunny here in WNY. My puppy and I chased around the yard and played with sticks, today. It was finally dry enough she didn't need a foot bath on the way in.

Jana, isn't it fun when you see a project and get inspired? And collecting fabric is an art form.

Becca, I like vegetarian food, and I like meat, too. There really isn't much I won't eat. I was looking at a how picky an eater are you meme on fb. I only got 1 point, because I don't like oysters.

Chickie, DH and I will often get one or two appetizers and then split a meal, when we go out. It gives us more variety.

Supper tonight is fish, baked potatoes, and beets. Maybe I will throw a couple raw carrots on the plate for more color.
