SUPPER CLUB - Sat., April 7

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Apr 07, 2018 3:30 am

Good morning!

We've got heavy, steady rain this morning. I'm not hearing our usual cheerful chirping outside today. I think the birds all rolled over and went back to sleep!

Yesterday I got my big bargello almost, but not quite, finished. Today for sure! No other plans for the weekend. The little party at our friend's art studio last night was fun. Everyone brought something to snack on and a favorite wine to share. Most of us have been friends for almost 30 years. We've only known our hosts for about 5 years. They invited a neighbor of theirs that we've met a few times before, and she is a big time quilter. So we enjoyed talking quilts. And the entire group - men included - talked sewing machines for a while. My kind of party - sewing AND wine!

IRISH - I think you just shared a golden philosophical nugget: "We all gotta make our own sunshine". I like it! My bumps and bruises haven't amounted to much. I felt I deserved more than a scraped knee to show off but that's all I got for my little bit of excitement. Lunch with your gal pals sounds like good therapy to me! You've all hung in there with each other through some tough times. Maybe you should all plan a little trip together to celebrate your friendship! How is your DBIL doing?

CHICKIE - Did you survive the weather yesterday or is it still hammering you? If any new little calfies are thinking of coming out in that, they ought to think again and stay inside and play. Sending prayers for your DD . . And to Doyal.

PAM - I've never had a canoli. They aren't so big in our part of the country, though I think they should be! But I do like chicken nuggets! how was the quilt show?

Well, all the leftovers are gone and no more parties so I guess I'm up tonite. What to cook, what to cook . . . . .? Maybe pasta? Or, since it's going to be a stormy day, chicken soup would be in order. I have some cooked rice in the freezer I can add to it. We also have some chili in the freezer I can heat and have over baked potatoes . . . Lots of options!

what are your options for tonite?

Good morning from rainy CA. It was predicted to get 2-4 inches, but seems to have stayed north of us. We are just getting gentle rain. It is warm too. Good sewing weather.

The boys have been sawing and hammering away to get DH's man cave done before it rained. They will return Monday to put all the finishing touches in. DH wants to do his own painting and finishing inside so he can have it just the way he wants. I have to keep reminding him this is just a workshop, not a little house! The mockingbirds nesting right next to the new shed have gotten used to the chaos and I see them flying in and out feeding their 3 babies. And we continue to have no cat poop so maybe this year the babies will fledge. Last year the cat got them after a week.

Brought my first rose into the house (the rain would have spotted it) and all 8 blooms on my orchid have opened. Here are some pics:

Foundation for the man cave. The mockingbirds are in the red bush to the right.

Tonight is sloppy joes and salad, but of course DH will bump it up a notch. He can never make the same thing the same way. Wish he would write things down, though so they could be duplicated.

Have a wonderful weekend and prayers for all those in need.

Good afternoon from a semi sunny, semi dreary, still wintery, SW. Pa...Yep, woke up to more snow, you know that white stuff that just won't give up and let it be spring......But, give it a day and it will be all gone, I hope.....

Mary, I have a feeling Jim felt I might start being lazy so he wants me to make my own sunshine, lol...But, I also know, he has to be so busy with all his friends, so it's OK.....Getting closer and closer on that quilt, so exciting..........My DBIL is a slight bit better although, he still is talking in the past..My sister said, it's real hard to understand what he's saying but he has talked mostly about camping with his Dad or going home to see Mom...Already, she's starting to wear herself out by running back and forth and her kids all more or less expect her to be sitting with their dad all day, which isn't right....Bite my tongue!
I had a strange thing happen last night and it really hit hard...I had been watching the Penguin game and when they had their break, I left the TV on and came in to check the computer...Well, I could hear the game and at one point, I yelled in the other room, "Jim what's happening"...I was back a few years when Jim was still home...then I didn't want to go back in the living room, I didn't want to loose that feeling....I often think these might be signs, he's letting me know, he's OK....

CHickie, I keep forgetting to tell you, our Stephan will soon be leaving Sheppard AFB in Texas and will be assigned to one in Kansas...Not sure of the name but it starts with a Mc.....Today is his birthday and hopefully, I'll talk with him later and find out which one....Also will be keeping DD and of course your DH in my prayers....And might even surprise you and answer your email, lol....I was thinking, maybe you should start to carry rocks in your pockets so you won't get blown away.....

Linda, love, love your pictures...Your house is lovely and I can see why DD wants to "get er done"...I know what you mean about writing down those special recipes....My Nick would come up with dishes but wouldn't let anyone know how he did it...I'm just hoping he wants to cook while he's here for the summer, lol.....

Becca, The gals I had lunch with yesterday are special...3 of us are now widows (oh I hate that word) and the other gal's DH is on Hospice so we all have had our share of woes....As Mary said, we all should take a trip together, would be fun...It is tough watching the "kids" leave isn't it? Kathy always told me, when the kids were leaving, she never watched...She would walk them to the car and then go back in the house but me, I stand on the street until I can't see them any longer, lol....Left over spaghetti is the best....My neighbor, Donna, gave me a nice bowl the other day and I finished it last night, so good.....Stay warm, spring is coming, honest!

Just trying to "redd" up the house and then might pull some fabric for a runner...I need something springy and Lord knows, I have the fabric....Not going anywhere today, too cold for me...Hopefully, tomorrow will be warmer, but it is what it is......One big accomplishment so far today, I replaced the potty seat and that even involved using a big screw driver...So proud of myself!

As for my dinner, pretty much used up all the leftovers so could be new food but so far, don't know what.....And the bad thing, I don't even have a bag of chips as a back up.....

Almost forgot, I got my new Visa card in the mail (the one from my bank), so look out Chewy.com....Fur kids will be so happy.....lol...

You all have a great day...........

Happy eating..............

Good afternoon!

I will have Ethan in awhile. Today is set up for tomorrow's last performance of Sarah's choir for the year. The choir was invited to perform at the Missionary Training Center in Provo. This is very special, as the Church doesn't extend invitations like this very often. Stu is coming up from school to help on the technical end. He is very excited to go back to the MTC, since he was there as a missionary not long ago.

Mary - almost there with that quilt. I am sure it is a work of art!

Becca - sad to have Denise and Mark leave, but three months is not that long before he retires.

Linda - you have a beautiful home. We have a joke here about man caves or my Batt Cave - when one of us gets too fussy about finishes, tbe other says or reminds, "it's a BASEMENT!" Then we smile.

Dinner - kid friendly, but little guy will eat just about anything. His favorite is pasta anything.

Matt is on his way home - through the storms. Hopefully it is raining over Donner. The rest of the mountain passes across Nevada are much lower and this Pineapple Express picks up the moisture coming over the Hawaiian Islands which is much warmer than the Alaskan current. Our snow on the mountains is melting fast and our snow level is close to 10,000 feet. If they need to stop, they have the RV for shelter, warmth, sleeping and food! Even TV to entertain the gremlins! LOL!

Irish - you snuck in on me - Jim is just on the other side, cheering you on. I still catch myself wanting to dial my mom's phone number to share something about the kids. I just smile and know that she already saw it too!

Enjoy,
Jana

Oh yes, Lila is being a stinker - no appearance yet!

Hi everyone! :)
We've been windy windy here, I could use some rain if anyone wants to send it.
Frankie moved 6 trees over to Dad's house. I have pine trees and mulberry trees that come up all the time so I share. I just hope they do good with the move....the wind isn't the best for them when moving.
I made a pot of beans and corn bread last night, most likely that will be supper tonight.
We hatched out 2 baby chickens 2 days ago, waiting to see if we get more. I'm hoping we get at least 4 more.
Not much going on here, just same old serif......taking care of the boys, watering, yard work, helping Dad, regular chores. Have as great one!
Tina
