Psalm 148
Praise of the Lord is to permeate every aspect of the universe. It would be impossible to define the scope of God's dominion and lordship, but in an effort to be as comprehensive as possible, the psalmist emphasizes that everyone and everything is to praise the Lord. Eight times in the first four verses he expresses in the strongest imperative that we are to praise the Lord. God desires that we love Him, that we serve Him, that we fear Him, that we are obedient to His commandments, and that we live for Him, but the overarching priority is to praise Him. All else that we do is for the purpose of His praise; it is to glorify, exalt, and bless His name. This is God's desire for (1) all the hosts of heaven, (2) all of creation on the earth, and (3) all mankind.
