SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Jan 27th
Good morning!
Scottie still tires easily and sleeps a lot more than usual, but otherwise, he seems like his old self. I pulled his IV catheter last night (I left it in just in case he ended up needing to back on IV's), and this morning I gave him about 15 little kibbles mixed in his teaspoon of Rx canned food. He's going to become addicted to having gourmet meals and then I'll be stuck having to mix his food for the rest of his life! lol! It's happened before!
Yesterday we did errands so got a late start on wallpaper, but do have half of it up - the hard half, thankfully. So today we plan to see the end of this job! I bet you're all as happy about that as I am! lol! I can finally start putting pictures back on the walls. And maybe tomorrow I can sew something!
My turkey tetrazzini was really good. Basically a turkey noodle casserole with herbs for flavoring. I couldn't find my regular recipe so I used a different one and it called for pimentos and parsely. I didn't have either of those so I subbed sun-dried tomatoes and capers. Gave a different flavor, but good. THEN, because earlier in the week our happy hour friends that we usually meet at the Mexican restaurant wanted to get together but we couldn't because of Scottie, came here to share supper. It was a spontaneous invitation. A nice evening and we spent 3 hours relaxing and laughing, even if I was in sweats with wallpaper paste in my hair!. We needed that. I made CHICKIE'S world-famous baking powder biscuits, too, which were a hit. Not as good as The Chick's, but still tasty. Especially with homemade jam.
BECCA - so glad you found your DH's burrito in the store freezer and not along the roadside! lol!! Do you ever make tacos? They are such easy Mexican food to fix. We usually make them with hamburger and either a packet of seasoning or just chili powder and cumin. But sometimes I used cooked chicken.
IRISH - I figured you were putting a new car on the back burner, but I wanted you to tuck that flooded car thought in the back of your mind for when/if you do go car shopping. I'm relieved that Jim now has a bed alarm and a comfy chair. And that he loves his Ensure! My brother, Jim, hated it. He wanted cheese and potato chips and pizza! lol! Your poor sis. You both have had a heck of a year! Good thing you have each other's backs!
LINDA - I'm so happy that your life is calm and sedate right now. I think those of us who are taking our turn in the crisis barrel appreciate being about to read about dressing up for a nice evening out! I know I do! Do you wear formal gowns to the Philharmonic or just pretty clothes? Does this include a nice dinner? As for rain - right now our back lawn is a 2-foot deep lake with ducks swimming on it! At least it's not a frozen lake! Good thing it slopes away from the house and not the other way around!
JANA - Poor Sarah! I feel for her! She is such a good person. I made a note about using wallpaper paste and stuck it inside the cabinet door in the laundry. I love wallpaper and have quite a bit of it throughout the house. Good to note about Safeway. I've seen the same thing at QFC, a Kroger store. At the meat counter and in the bakery, as well.
CHICKIE - congratulations on your good report at your doctor's appointment. I sure hope the naproxen works for your knee. I can testify to the fact that your old wallpaper stuck with Elmer's is probably still there! We used it in a few places where our old paper came unstuck. We did our best to remove it last week, but have to say, some of it is now painted over and some of it is getting papered over! lol! We won't be doing that again!
TINA - meatloaf and yahtzee - can life get any better?? Such a wholesome, comforting family evening! Glad you are getting some sewing done!
Our weekend is forecast to be windy with hard rain for two days. Those ducks out there are smiling! If Scottie had his way we'd be having duck for dinner! lol! But it's going to be leftover turkey tetrazzini. And some kind of veggie on the side. No biscuits tonite.
Have you got a plan yet?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Jan 27th
Good morning from a dreary, kind of overcast, warmish, SW. Pa...As soon as it's not that freezing cold, we can handle this.....And so far, the thaw hasn't been too bad, except all those cars that were surrounded by water...But, living near the big 3 rivers in Pittsburgh there is always a fear of flooding, not that I'm close but I hate to see it happen....
Mary, thank goodness Scottie is close to being back to normal even if you do have to serve him special dinners...I think, along with having babies that are sick, having our pets under the weather ranks right up there on top...Hurts my heart just thinking about it....Wallpapering always reminds me of my Mom and Dad doing the dining room...My Mother was a stickler and it never failed, before the 1st piece was in place on the ceiling, these 2 would be arguing..Mom "fired" Dad and ended up doing the complete room herself..We lived in a very big house with high ceilings and she in turn did all the rooms except the kitchen, alone.....My Dad didn't like doing inside things and knew exactly how to get out of it, lol...
Becca, Happy to hear DH is having a morning out, will do him a lot of good and give you some alone time....And I do agree about, so good I have my sister...There have been times when I would have sold her, cheap or even given her away, but as we've grown older, honestly don't know what I'd do without her....
Chickie, Yesterday I talked to the Hospice gal and she asked how he was at using his hands...WELL, when I told her about the quilt you gals had put together for him, she was floored...I had taken it in once before and it seemed no one took the time to really "show" him but this gal is so excited, can't wait to get her hands on it....Once again, you all have helped....
Not much happening in this neighborhood, I think everyone is still sleeping or away and didn't tell me, lol...Not like it used to be when the kids were all younger and you'd have someone knocking on the door and kids playing in the yard... There are times when I really miss that.....Haven't done much but most of the uglies are done and I just want to run the vacuum and then go visit with Jim....Later today, Terry is bringing Scout, his Norwegion Elkhound, down for an overnight stay...Terry and his wife are planning a trip and Scout will be staying with Grammy and this is to get him used to the house...Terry did hook up a line so I won't have to try to walk him...We laughed at that one..Scout is big and likes to chase any little critter that moves so I could vision me walking him and come along a rabbit and me hanging onto the end of his leash, headed for the next county...Best we are tethered to the house!Of course Scout doesn't like to be outside so his jaunts won't take too long...He's my kind of dog, loves to laze in his bed in front of their fireplace....
I do need to stop and get Jim some new sweat pants...Hospice said it might be easier and more comfortable to wear these instead of the jeans....
As for my dinner, I have left over chili from yesterday...I threw everything in this pot and it turned out pretty tasty...
You all have a great day...........
Happy eating..............
