SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 26th
Good morning,
I'm a little extra groggy this morning so if I say something goofy, I actually have a good reason - at least for today. Scottie is a new dog this morning. Or maybe I should say he's like our old dog! Demanding breakfast, chewing on my feet, barking for what he wants. And such bright eyes again! I'm thinking he won't have to go back to the vet today! But he's going to be on a very special diet and some medications for a while. Vet said we came close to losing him.
Yesterday we repainted our green accent wall, and like it much better. Then we put up the border on the part of the room we painted last week. Wouldn't stick no matter what we did. And we followed the directions exactly, which said to use water. On two different strips. So off to H.D. for wallpaper paste instead. Success! Today, we'll hang the big paper or as much as we can until we poop out. It's happening earlier and earlier in the day as the project wears on! lol!
TINA - you made it! Glad to hear it. Working on Christmas projects and for NEXT year! Aren't you the smart cookie! Happy Belated birthday to Frankie! Oh, and Bill says to let you know that oatmeal raisin is his favorite cookie though we now use Craisins instead of raisins. And just in case anyone needs to know, MY favorite is Choc chip WITH walnuts.
JANA - I think you guys broke the law! Murphy's Law! All those cuts should have been an inch short! lol! But so glad they weren't.
BECCA - sorry you don't like your new store. So far, I'm not crazy about ours either. The music is TOO LOUD and too big and the milk is too long a hike! I've never been a regular Safeway shopper but I may convert. On they other hand, they do have that wine bar . . . .
You gave Bill and me a real laugh yesterday. I was reading your meal plan and it went something like this: "DH is having a burrito I found..." and being early in the morning, my mind immediately was finishing that sentence with "along the road". I started laughing when I realized what I'd done and Bill asked what was so funny. lol! I went for another cup of coffee to wake me up!
BECKY - we like sauerkraut here, though I doubt any of my kids or grands do. But it's a main dish here and I add kielbasa, diced carrot, a bit of potato, and doctor it from there. It's always different.
IRISH - How is Jim doing? I hope things are smoothing out for you a little bit. And any word on your DBIL? I know right now a new car is the last thing you are thinking about, but I've been giving it some thought and after several news stories I've watched, I see a lot of cars from floods during the hurricanes have been shipped to various parts of the country and being sold without full disclosure. ABC World News did a story and it's probably on their website how to check to see if a car has been in a flood. Anyway, I've been worrying that you might get a "flood victim".
We still have some turkey. I think I'm going to make a turkey tetrazzini. I'll assemble it this morning though because I know I'll be too bushed to cook by end of the day. I can just pop it into the oven. And a fresh veggie to be named. I have broccoli, asparagus, and carrots to choose from. Or maybe sliced tomatoes.
I have enough turkey to share . . . .

Good early afternoon from a very sunny, getting warmer, SW. Pa...Going to be a great day and a better weekend....
Oh Mary, so, so happy to hear Scottie is back, what a scare! And glad to hear you're getting that room taken care of...How come, when you start something, thinking it isn't going to be a major project and then all those extra things come along...But, then when it's done, you do appreciate it so much more....
My DBIL is back home and under the care of my sister and seems to be doing OK...My sister is scheduled to have more surgery on her wrist so he'd better be OK...Then in April or May, she's have a total knee replacement...One thing after the other with that family....
Just wanted to check in and make sure you all were behaving...I've gone a whole day without having that dreaded phone call telling me Jim had fallen...They have been trying different types of chairs, to make him more comfortable and be safe...And his bed does now have an alarm if he decided to take a stroll...They have decided to also put him on a very soft diet and hope he'll start to eat better but he still loves his Ensure...I do feel so much better with Hospice helping, what a wonderful group....
So, need to hop in the shower and then get on my way....For my dinner, maybe the car will do it's thing and surprise me....(And Mary, you're right, I don't even want to think about heated seats and colors right now).....
You all have a great day.................
Happy eating.............

Morning All:
We had 1/4" rain yesterday and everyone is so excited...using the words: quite a bit, a lot, exceeded expectations. Seems kind of funny when I read what you all get in other places of the country.
I have been catching up on reading and seems I missed a lot of things.
MaryZ - so glad Scottie is better. Being an animal lover we have had a lot of pets over the years and they all have gone to pet heaven. We haven't replaced them because the loss is just to much. Prayers for your family and its current journey.
Irish - So glad Jim is home and under Hospice care. Although I did all the actual hospice care for my parents and daughter, it was so nice to have their support.
Farm Chick - see my comment to Mary.
To all others: My life is so sedate and calm right now. Family is doing well and does not need me, DH is settling into retirement, not much happening in this small town, so all I can do is send best wishes and prayers for the same to you all.
Only "big" thing coming up is our monthly Fresno Philharmonic night this Sunday. Only time we "get dressed up to go to the city".
Have a good weekend and prayers to those in need.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 26th
Good afternoon!
We are very chilly, down right cold as far as I am concerned! We got a dusting of snow last night and it has now been blown away. Too cold to have melted off.
Michael is getting the bulletin done for Sunday meetings. Sarah was here, then off to get little guy. It seems as if she will have the in-laws for a couple of days. The power company is doing some kind of construction near their home in Ogden, and supposedly will turn off the power for 3 or 4 days - sounds a little out of line to us to turn it off for that long. Anyway, her FIL is on oxygen and needs power to keep the concentrator running, so that is why they may be here. Sarah is rather dreading the thought of having them that long, but she is a trooper and will do what she has to.
Mary - I found in all the times that I hung wallpaper that the glue on the paper never stuck, so I always pasted my paper the first time and made sure that it stayed! I pity the person that bought my house in Concord, as I hung lots of paper in that house that if they didn't like my taste, they would have to remove it! LOL It was a single young man that bought the house, so I think that his taste would not be towards farmhouse country style! Watch out for Safeway - they had a habit in California to repackage the old meat with fresh new looking meat and then sell it. The chain was fined many times, but kept up that practice. But it was the only store that I could shop at. A town of 120,000 people and only Safeway in town. We had Costco the next town over and Trader Joes.
Becca - I too hate these great big stores and the awful elevator music that they play. It makes me in and out quick! I love Mexican too! Not real talented in making it, but keep trying - most of the comes out pretty good.
Irish - glad that they added that alarm. The place put one on my Mom's bed too. She thought that she could get up and walk, but the osteoporisis had taken that away.
Linda - around here, we'll take what moisture we can get - even little bits. Glad that DH is settling into retirement. Just when I thought that my DH was done with consulting, the company has called him back. Guess that he will be doing this until he is dead or the company changes the entire system again. It took my DH 40 years to change over the system to something that runs - so it will be a long time again now!
Dinner - humm - guess that means that I have to cook something. Saw a recipe for a Italian skillet meal - looked good - guess that we will try that one. The kids are wanting to take me and the grown ups out for my BD dinner in February. They think that turning over the hill is a big deal - I am not owning up to being that old - I am 24! But we will go to a family style Italian resturant over across the valley. The reviews are very good. Similar to a favorite of mine in the redwoods in California. The town there was very small - a gas station and these three Italian resturants.
Sorry - can't spell today!
Enjoy
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 26th
Good afternoon! I had to get out of the house early and get to town for a doctor appointment where I waited for what seemed forever (over an hour). But, I had a good book with me, so time flew by. Good news! I’m in great shape for the shape I’m in. I lost some poundage and shed a bunch of points on my cholesterol. The doc was quite impressed. He checked out my knee thoroughly and said it’s severely inflamed but healed from the initial sprain and gave me a script for naproxen. I can live with that! Then I stopped by Mom’s and visited a bit. I was going to get an oil change for my truck, but the place was so busy I didn’t stop. I bought fuel and came on home. On the way, I stopped and walked Choc and Maggie and then Ava.
Tina—you are working on 2018 Christmas! I’m working on 2017!!! Talk about getting a little behind in my work… ! I’m starting to think about 2018 Christmas, but I must do these first! Hope things are moving along with the big trailer project and your dad can get settled in. Happy late BD to Frankie!
Mary—what wonderful, wonderful news about Scottie! That’s just too much of a close call. Know you were a frazzled wreck of worry.
Becky—your dinner sounds yummy! I think Mom and I are the only sauerkraut eaters in the family. DH can’t stand it.
Jana—the temperature says it should be warm today, but the wind is so cold and blowing so hard the pond has intermittent white caps. Brrr! I feel for Sarah!
I couldn’t get wallpaper to stick before I moved one time, and I pasted it on with thinned Elmer’s glue! I bet that paper is still stuck 30 years later!
Becca—good luck with your shopping! We are limited here, and I hate to drive 100 miles round trip to get groceries, so I endure and shop when I go see DD. I think at this point that any food that your DH will eat is “healthy”. I wish we didn’t have to eat, too!
Rose— That’s funny about your ¼” rain exceeding expectations and being quite a lot. There is something wonderful about life being sedate and calm. Enjoy. So glad your DH is settling in to his retirement. It is a big deal for guys, I think. Enjoy your concert!
Irish—I feel so fortunate I’m not needing knee surgery here! Glad to hear that Jim now has a bed alarm. I’m sure he probably has a chair alarm as well. I couldn’t have taken care of my late DH without the Hospice assistance with the nurses coming in twice a week and the aides coming thrice to help me bathe him. They also provided the bed and Hoyer lift so I could get him up into a chair and back to bed. Hope your car finds Subway or other good stop!
Dinner here tonight… I probably need to grill DH a steak and make a baked potato. Or, we may have the last of the ham and beans. He likes the ham; I like the beans. We won’t starve for sure!
Bon appétit!

Did I come here this morning? ....I guess not. ... hmmm.
Chickie, these Christmas presents were going to be for Christmas 2017 but that didn't happen so I'm gonna finish them and give them for 2018 Christmas. Don't tell any of them.... they'll never know. ....shhhhhhhh
I made meatloaf for supper, it was Dad's night to come here and eat. Jazmyne is staying the night so we also played Yahtzee. It was a good evening. He loves it when Jazmyne is here, she helps his heart.
I gotta fold a load of laundry, clean the kitchen and go soak in the tub. Night.
