SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 12
Good morning!
We are not so rainy as yesterday and moving into a sunny, 50* weekend! I can dig it!!
Albert said that now they are waiting for records from his last anesthesiologist of 6 years ago to be sent to Seattle. They KNEW they'd need these records so I just don't understand why they weren't requested weeks ago. And this isnt' just here. Our TX friend was waiting for records to be transferred before he could have a much needed bowel surgery. Every week they called the first doctor and asked if they'd been sent. "No, but soon", was always the answer. After almost a month of making weekly calls and getting the same answer, my friend drove into town (Austin, TX), went to first doctor, requested the records to be copied, hand carried them up two flights of stairs (in the SAME building!!) to the second doctor, and slapped them on the desk. Problem solved in 15 minutes and friend got his surgery. Now THAT'S frustration and incompetence at its lowest!
We had fun with our friends last night. We all met at 4pm, had a few beers, some Mexican food, and, after our 'night' of carrousing, we were home by 5:30, in jammies, in front of the fire and TV. My kind of wild life!! lol!!
CHICKIE - your weather is crazy! But it doesn't seem to slow the cow babies down in their appointed rounds, does it! lol! My DDIL has a dog walking/sitting/business, too. I have no idea how much she makes now, but she says she is doing well. I wish she was closer though so we could use her ourselves now and then.
IRiSH - I'm glad you have your computer issues resolved. I hope you had fun with Nick on his last day. As for cars, I HATE car shopping. Bill's going to get what he wants anyway so I just wait until it's color picking time. I LOVE red. But I also like the new really bright turquoise. Goes with my eyes. My oldest DD just bought a new Toyota RAV that color and it's beautiful! The older I get the brighter I want my colors. No white, grey, brown, or black here! Sorry Jim isn't quite as perky as he used to be. I imagine each day is different. I used to take handwork, too, when I visited my dad. I'd sit next to him and we'd watch TV or he'd nap. He refused to go into the common rooms except to eat so we'd always be in his room.
JANA - what a great idea you had! That house would be a purrfect quilting retreat house! Got a pretty nice view, too! I think I posted a photo last summer of us out on the waterfront patio of an Italian restaurant. That's the eatery that is near this house. In fact, the house could have been in the background if we could know which one it was and we had a good magnifying glass. So what color is your Highlander? we have a sky blue Camry. I'm ready to go back to red (or that bright turquoise), even though our truck (and the old truck) is red. But our Camry is coming up on 14 years old, still looks new, has never had anything wrong with it, and only has 87,000 miles on it. So, unless things change drastically, no new cars for us for a while. But the Highlander is what we're thinking when the time comes. Do you like it?
BECCA - I can't believe you're on your third control panel on your new heat system. Isn't there a lemon law on things like this like there is on cars? I think I'd start hammering on the company to replace the whole thing with a new unit.
TINA - Glad you stopped in! sounds like a bit of stress is going on there. Headaches, insomnia, and neck and back pain are typical physical responses to stress. Hopefully after next week things will ease up for you. I'm not sure of the point of setting your dad up with e-mail and on-line banking if he's going to cancel internet. But if you don't mind a comment from someone who's 'been there, done that,' more than once, he really shouldn't cancel everything and then see where he stands, and start adding back what he wants. They charge big fees to reconnect these services. He should see where he stands and then start eliminating what he feels he can live without. Much cheaper and easier way to go. Or renegotiate contracts for cheaper rates. Just a thought . . .
BECKY - having the kids pop dinner in the oven is a great start! Meatloaf is a great learner supper! Easy to make.
For tonite I'm popping a pot roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions into the crockpot. Salad on the side. And dressing on the side of that! We don't eat a lot of beef but it sounded good and our new store had a buy one and get one for free sale on pot roasts. So we have one in the freezer for later. Family may fly in for Al's surgery and if they do, they'll all stay with us again, I'm sure. So it will be good to have some simple things stockpiled. In fact, maybe it's time to start making some plans in regards to that! Hmmm. . . .
anyway, just thinking out loud here. sorry. Beef! it's what's for dinner. Here anyway. How about your house?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 12
Good morning! We had brutal cold this morning again. So thankful we don’t have ice and snow to deal with. The wind chill was -10 and temperature 8 when I was feeding. Blackie and Pocket Lint were in their pen letting me know they wanted feed as they are doing about every day. Blondie and Annie got their warm bottles and feed as well. The cows got some range cubes, and I got COLD! The sun is shining, and it’s so much easier to handle the cold than when it’s dark and gloomy and same temperatures.
I have all the dogs to take care of today and tonight, and then I’ll be “off duty” a few days. I’m glad your DDIL is doing well with her business!
Really… SIX years ago? I’m sure that your DB’s health has changed a lot since then. I totally relate to having to go demand copies, pay for them, and hand deliver. It’s ridiculous!!! Not everyone has an advocate to run interference for them.
Sounds like a fun party! We didn’t leave the house until 5:45! DS and DDIL picked us up, and we went out to eat then to the movie. DDIL and I enjoyed Jumanji while the guys, including one of the DGSs, went to Star Wars. We were home by 10:30!
So…. We all need to enter the contest and win the house for a quilting retreat house!
Becca—Mary had a great suggestion about the lemon laws. I think you should write to the president of the company and document all the difficulties you’ve had.
Tina—it does sound like stress with you. You’ve been through so much the last six months that you really need time to decompress and regenerate.
Beef! It’s what’s for dinner here, too… at least for DH. I have steak to grill and baked potatoes to go with it. Soup is sounding really delicious to me, so I may make something or open a can… Last evening I had salad and a cheesy, chicken, Mexican style sup that was delicious and warming when the weather was unpleasantly chilling.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Fri, Jan 12
Good late morning from a very foggy but warm, SW. Pa...Right now, it's 56 but Chickie's cold is headed this way and we're dropping way, way down tonight and snow....
Mary, you know, with everything computerized these days, there is no excuse for waiting...Of course, the person who's in front of the computer has to know what he/she is doing...For over a week, I've been trying to get a simple RX refilled but, instead of the pharmacy listening to me and faxing the new doctor, they kept calling my old doctor until, I CALLED my new doc and had them send in a new RX...I was upset and my little problem is nothing like what you all are going through.....
My days with Jim are pretty much what you described but I'm also hoping when he stops taking the new meds, he'll snap back a little...
Chickie, I agree about some or maybe most of the medical system being ridiculous...And know exactly what you mean about having an advocate..Had I not had the fellow from the AMVets help with Jim, we'd be up that creek....I also agree about the sun (which is shining nicely in my window)...Those dreary days sure make for getting out of bed a nasty task..But, one thing, my fur babies love when Mom is lazy in the mornings and we just snuggle a little later than usual...
Yesterday was such a fun day...Nick chose Chinese (which I was real surprised), then we went to Kohl's and that kid knows how to shop, too much! Then we stopped at the Subaru dealer and check em out! I've decided, you know what they said in the OJ trial, "If it fits?" Well, if the big thing fits in the garage, I'll get it, if not, then I'll go for the other one...Going to wait until Terry is back from N.C. and we'll see.....I've never had to make this decision before, just as Mary, pick out the color..This last car, Jim knew I wanted silver and got it while I was in Florida...I get a headache just thinking about it.....
I dropped off Nick and came home to 2 huge boxes on the front porch and boy did I need him then...I have been ordering the cat stuff from Chewey.com and those boxes are heavy...I've found, I get the same cat food and it's much cheaper than buying it at Walmart and it's also free shipping...(And, come summer, those men in the brown truck just might be wearing shorts.......)
I can't stay and chat...Have some errands to do and then visit with Jim and need to get back before the rain hits and temps drop...
As for dinner, left over Chinese just might do it...
You all have a great day....
Happy eating............

Good morning!
Mary - We love our Highlander. The mileage isn't good, but she is wonderful every way else. It is marshmellow pearl white with a tan interior. Sunroof too, but right now what I love the most is the heated seats! Tush warmers are wonderful! We still have my Solara and Michael's Tacoma. 2 drivers and three cars, but every once in awhile, one of the kids needs to borrow, so we have extra! LOL
Chickie - fun to go to the movies!
Not much here - dinner is still lurking in the freezer. I need a milk and veggie run, so more than likely, some type of soup will appear. Probably the white banned one with sourdough bread.
Enjoy!

Hello everyone, rainy here before the big chill hits tonite.Had to go to town for DHs Meds .And picked up few groceries bec of the cold front coming.
On the Heat Pump the Co here checked with the company as did we.They are covered good by their lawyers bec of lawsuits. We cannot get anything done except parts are covered but we pay labor. The people here have gone way beyond for us,They feel bad bec we have had so much trouble. In our last house we owned the people that bought our house sued the H& A co.due to repairs. It was a lemon too.UGH.We Both try to think on other things.
Maryz We have found with medical issues you have to be the goffer No one is competent so you have to take care of issues on your own.I did that when DH Had his first stroke.I found out then you have to do it yourself if you want it done. Its sad but that’s the way the system is.
Irish It is a major decision to make.I too would be cringing.Sure hope it all falls into place for you.Hugs & thoughts coming your way from me.
Tina I understand perfectly where you are.And Poor Dad isn’t up to making decisions now either.Prayers for both of you too.
Chickie You’re a better Woman than I to go out in that bitter cold.My Head wouldn’t allow it.And your Dog duties too at nite.Did you see where the man in Naples FL was taking his dog out & a bear got him in the face & Head.On the face at one place was 40 some stitches alone.Do be careful.
Jana Enjoy your Whatever falls out of freezer.lol
I have chicken strips defrosting. Will do them with steamed cauliflower and broccoli. And pineapple chucks. Becca

Hi everyone
I guess I didn't write the "rest of the story" yesterday. Mom and Dad have been out of contract for years so canceling isn't a problem and if he cancels tv, internet and cell and goes with what's available where he lives then he saves almost $300 or $400 a month, I can't Renner which he said. He'll still have tv, internet and cell but just different companies and smaller tv package but unlimited on internet and cell. They had stuff before so they could use it away from home while traveling or while Mom was at the hospital. Now he says he'll be stationary.
I'm going to try a bourbon chicken recipe tonight for us and Dad. I hope it's good.
Mary, Dr's need to be on the receiving end of their own services. I'll be praying for your brother.
Tina
