SUPPER CLUB - Friday, October 13th
Good Morning!
Welcome to my grandson's 24th birthday! how can it be that I have a grandson that old?? Seems like I was just 24! How did he, let alone his mother! get to be such a great age!!
We had a rainy day here yesterday. But I loved it! We went to Tacoma and I got fabric to finish and back two quilts. Then we went downtown to the courthouse so I could figure out jury parking areas, etc. because I received a summons to report later this month. It's a rat's nest of remodeling, construction, new 1-way streets, security booths, restricted parking areas, etc., all around the courthouse and I wanted to figure out where I was to go.
My nephew who had the brain tumor is being released today, though instead of home, they are thinking rehab because he is unstable on his feet. They fear if he goes home he might fall and hit his head. An undesirable situation after brain surgery. He is talking on the phone, walking a bit with a walker, eating real food. Friday the 13th is a good day for our family!
I checked the Secret Santa thread yesterday and have to admit I was shocked to realize how quickly the mailing date is rushing up. I kept thinking this is Christmas stuff and Christmas is 3 months away. But mailing for SS is Nov 20, is only 5-1/2 weeks away. So I got busy in my sewing room through the afternoon.
Annie slept on our bed last night - all night long! No one else did, though. That I know of, anyway. Things are coming long with our new fur-baby.
BECCA - yes, it did feel good to get so much done the other day. I was sorry to poop out before it was finished, but another day or two and it will be done. Hope Denise is feeling better. My LDH#1 was prone to kidney stones and his doctor told him that his stones were composed of calcium and to cut back on milk, which he loved. When my girls were little, their aunt knitted them all the characters in Strawberry Shortcake. they were so cute and the girls loved them.
JANA - oh you poor dear!! Glad you found your templates, but sorry for what happened later. I just was reading about it in yesterday's sew-in. Is there no way to gather up those pieces, tape them back together and copy them? Did Sarah already cut hers up? could you copy her page? Though I picture Sarah someone who does her homework on Friday night! lol! So sorry this happened! But we've all done silly errors.
CHICKIE - I forgot what a big bullet I dodged when we had supper with you on our first visit! Whew!! One Halloween I went as "Spiderella". I ratted my hair until it stood out 8 inches all around my head and then sprayed it stiff. I used a white make-up all over my face and then heavy black around my eyes, purple or black lipstick, and painted a few spiders on my face. I also put some spiders in my hair. My dress was of the Morticia Adams style and I pinned a plastic web to my back. People who saw me several times a week didn't recognise me. Bill was Dracula and again the make-up (and removing his glasses) did the trick. No one knew him either! Do you have dollar stores or thrift shops in your area? Great source of costume ideas.
The Sweet and Sour meatballs were a hit with DH last night. And there's enough for later this weekend. But tonight it's going to be chicken tortellini soup. And I better go get the chicken out of the freezer before I forget!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, October 13th
Good morning!
We will have Gracie for a visit tonight. Her parents need a date night out. Ethan may be here as well. Those two are best buds. Sarah did some math and Ethan, Gracie, and Emma will all be in the same high school, at the same time. Poor High School! LOL
Dinner needs to have a pasta something, as Gracie and Ethan love pasta.
My JN pattern pieces were beyond the retaping and some sections were missing. Sarah is not doing the class, but now has the pattern, thanks to me. The cutting templates can be saved and reused, but the sewing templates cannot. Sarah will make this quilt down the road apiece. Coh, she does her homework early, not like her mother, who is the Friday type!
Just talked to my Daniel. He is on call, but the State is playing politics, so he is just waiting. He is organizing donations from his area to aid the fire victims and needed some contacts that we had here to know where to take them.
Well, Ethan gets out early today, so if I get any work done before that, I better get going,
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, October 13th
Good morning from slightly chilly, slightly dreary, SW. Pa..We did have sun earlier (that's what got me up) but now just dreary....
Mary, I just can't get over your nephew leaving the hospital so soon after brain surgery....Medicine sure has come a long, long way...And you should know by now, after a certain age, all those kids pass you up...Happened to me years ago, that's my story and I'm sticking to it....I love, love when you get dressed up at Halloween and no one knows you...My friend Cindy and I dressed as an old couple, wearing her parents clothes...Her Dad is very small and she wore his suit and I powdered a wig, wore her mothers dress, stuffed alittle and we went to a club near by, sat up at the bar and had a drink...Later we went back (in regular clothes)and everyone was talking about that cute old couple that had stopped in..Another year, Jim dressed up as a woman and went to the firehall and all the men were trying to buy him drinks.....Lots and lots of good memories....
Last night was another, out after dark, night....Had a hard time leaving Jim, then went to my sister's and then to bingo...Dinner was pork chops, rice, gravy, corn and sweet potatoes...She also had cherry pie and I took my apple thingie...SO GOOD! Then bingo was fun, even won a few bucks...But, I just don't like coming home after dark to an empty house...DBIL is having his surgery today so it will be a long day for the two of them...With all his problems, we all know about Murphy's law, which just happens to be their last name.....
Not too much happening in this neighborhood today, everyone is hidden inside, I guess...But, today is "ugly" day and then I'm going to Terry's and we're going to sandwich THE quilt...Their table is much bigger than mine and hopefully, with the 3 of us, it might go smoother...Terry even offered dinner, WooHoo!
So, not sure what I'll be having for dinner but I do like surprises.....
You all have a great day....
Happy eating...............

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Friday, October 13th
Sorry to be MIA but life has gotten rather busy. I have to start early and by the end of the day I am bushed and fall into bed.
Have been painting the inside and outside of the new sun room. The contractor did one coat inside but his helpers were so sloppy and the coverage was not good plus we did not like the monochrome look. So I have been scraping, masking and repainting TWICE all around the windows (there are 5 big, big windows) and the French doors and the walls. It is getting colder and colder in the am's so I have to hurry up and get it done before the fog and cold sets in. Think I have until end of October. DH has been painting outside trim and lower wall to match our house. Hopefully the contractor will come back in several weeks to do the floor. The rugs and furniture are arriving in pieces and have to be stored in the family room. I will send pics when it is done.
Also, last week was rough, as my cousin passed away, my local BF's son passed and another local BF's partner passed away. And my BF in New Mexico is losing her brother soon. I guess this is the age it all starts. Although these were all people under 70. Guess I will have to start a collection of sympathy cards.
Not getting much quilting done, except for Teresa's lotto blocks. I figure I can catch up when our winter starts in November. Hope you are all getting to sew for me!
Well, maybe I can catch up with all your doings this evening. Till then, have a good and prayers to all those in need.
Last night's dinner was at our favorite Chinese restaurant--Broccoli with beef and General Tao Chicken. Both too tired to cook. PS DH did make his pizza on flat bread this week and it was really good. It may rival our usual Poppa Murphy's pizza.
