SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 2nd
Good morning!
Going to be another warm one today! The TV weather has been predicting mid to upper 90's for us. My phone says we should only be 88*. There is something about seeing that thermometer break the 90 mark that makes me sweat - er, I mean glow - even more! If it gets really bad, we have a cool lower level to retreat to.
Yesterday I spent a lot of time in my sewing room organizing projects. I found a big shoebox full of leftover HST's and 'ears' that have been cut off during various projects so I pressed all those out and some day when I'm really bored, I'll square them all up. In various sizes from 1" to about 4". there around 350 of them. Then I'll put them all together one day to make something. Someday.
Our truck should be home late today. So the plan is to leave for the ocean beach in the morning. I tell you, we are lucky people! Our truck fails, but we get home OK - no tow trucks involved. Cats are safe. Truck gets fixed under warranty/recall and we STILL get to go camping! Somewhere in our youthful childhood, we must have done something good!
So today will be adding a few more things to our mostly already packed trailer, and maybe fuzting around in my sewing room some more. And making a nectarine crisp to take camping.
BECCA - I hope you get a good view of the eclipse. DH was researching special glasses on line last night. they aren't expensive. If I lived anywhere but here, I'd for sure have AC in my house! But here, it would only get used maybe 7 days a year. So most houses don't have it. Businesses and stores do though. Good for you for making such an effort to improve your blood work! Nutrition is so important and I am lax about it.
JANA - I mis-typed. Sorry I knew you weren't teaching your JN class, but I guess my fingers thought you were! lol! Are you going to use batiks? What color? and is Sarah dong the same pattern? Cindy has one half finished that she started years ago - in purples, of course. She's told me the pattern so many times and I've forgotten it just as many times. I'm embarrassed to ask her again.
IRISH - so happy the honey doers showed up and are doing all the high-in-the-sky stuff for you! and those same fairies didn't stop by my house last night either! We were so tired when we went to go to bed and there were the freshly washed sheets and pillowcases tossed onto the mattress in a big heap. We had to make it before we could get into it. Riley couldn't wait and hopped up there anyway so she added a level of difficulty - had to make the bed around the cat!
CHICKIE - your days are so full!! You really need a Mini-Miriam! You could make her do all the chores and you could do all the sewing. I think that's fair. Hope you get to see the eclipse, too. We were invited to La Grande, OR to our friends to watch it. they have plenty of RV parking. She of the lung transplant. she is doing much better now and they say they still really want us to come, so we'll make final decision next week. But only on condition that she DOES NOT cook for us all like she always tries to do! We will be doing the cooking. Our usual two other couples we hang with will also be going - if we go. All the state parks in Oregon have been booked for months. We are lucky to have good friends in 'the path'. I am thinking of whipping them up a quick quilt as a thank you. If I really put my mind to it, I can do it. I hope. If not, I can always mail it afterward.
TINA - glad you had time for supper yesterday! And glad the kids were good for you. I know you've been busy, too, sorting ISBS blocks and getting labels printed and packages mailed. It's such a good feeling to have a clean house. I wish it lasted longer! How are the newly weds? and how is Holly feeling after her surprise surgery? Is already back to work?
Yesterday friends stopped by about 1:30pm to get some wine we'd picked up for them in Yakima. So, of course, we had to try a bottle. Well, with four people, one bottle doesn't go very far, so we had to try another bottle. And then it was supper time so we tossed a salad, and pulled together a quick meal of spaghetti salad, and garlic bread - our second this week. They didn't leave until almost 7:30. I enjoyed their visit but I got nothing done all afternoon. Then we watched the special on Diana. It was OK, but I felt that the producers were just capitalizing on the anniversary of her death. there was nothing new.
So - supper again tonite. we still have some sauce and meatballs left. I'm not sure if Bill can handle spaghetti again for the third night in a row. But maybe . . . I could cut up the meatballs and spread it all out on pizza dough and top it with cheese . . . and a salad. We'll see what happens.
Is your menu coming together yet?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 2nd
Good morning! Yesterday I walked twice to take care of Choc and Maggie and drove twice. NO MESSES! She’s old and crotchety and needs doggie Depends. I hope someone takes care of me when I get that way… oh, wait… it’s not that far off!
Mary—I feel for you with the heat!!! We are in the upper 80s—still melting, but so welcome from the higher temps. Last evening when I went to Choc and Maggie’s at 11:30, we were 70 degrees and 99% humidity! It’s nice to have nighttime temperatures below 80. I use the “ears” as leaders and enders and eventually square them and put them in with the 1.5” pieces. You are living right with all that could have gone wring!!!
We will see a partial eclipse here. I can’t remember the percentage, but it should at least be twilight. I do need a mini-me for chores!!!
Yesterday I worked on the baby quilt as DH didn’t need me at the rental. He will when we put down the laminate flooring again—meanwhile, I’m hiding in my sewing room. I should be able to finish the top today if I don’t have to go help. With luck, maybe I’ll get it sandwiched. The quilting will be simple. Maybe the wavy line stitch on my machine… The hooligans and I just have to go to Ava’s today.
Blackie and Pocket Lint are doing great. They come “home” for their sweet feed and milk at night and get shut in the pen. They get sweet feed for a start in the morning, then they go out to the pastures all day. The cows all come up to the pasture by the house, and I get to see little Phantom and the rest of the calves. The cows are shameless beggars, and sometimes they are rewarded with a treat of range cubes. All the animals at my house are so spoiled! I’m making 8 to 16 cups of hummer feeder a day. Those little buggers can empty a 4-cup feeder in a matter of hours!
I immediately thought of meatball subs, but your meatball pizza sounds better!
Dinner here—corn on the cob, tomatoes, melons… and something else for DH. I need to make a freezer run to the garage… He won’t starve!
Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Well, it's hot all over. We will push 100 and possibly over that. The record here for the number of days that we reach 100 or more is 21 and we are at 13. So grateful for AC and the Batt Cave. For most of the time, the house in California we didn't have AC, just a fan and I learned how to keep the house cool by closing up the drapes.
No idea for dinner.
My additional skinnies patterns arrived yesterday. Also got the fusible fleece and black I needed. So I need to get myself down to the Batt Cave and get busy.
Michael is out over at our niece's home, mowing their lawn. Sandee is highly allergic to grass and her husband Scott, just had the same weight loss surgery last Friday. He is doing very well.
Enjoy!

Good early afternoon from warm, sunny, gorgeous, SW. Pa...We have a slight breeze and it's heavenly....
Mary, sorry for your heat, very unusual, right? Mother Nature must been nipping at the bottle this year and has everything messed up.....So glad to hear that ocean trip is still on and you'll be able to visit with all those friends....What do you mean, in your childhood you did something good, you do good things all the time and truly deserve all the good things coming your way.. Had to laugh about
you making the bed....Heck, that's the way it is around here, always a big lump in the middle...I've even tried doing the bed while BabyGirl is downstairs sleeping but sure enough, she senses and up she comes...My right hand helper!
Chickie, I often think or wonder if someone will take care of me like I've babied these fur kids, lol....Also, think, those depends days are looming.....I would love to have to fill up my feeders more often, maybe not as much as you, but with 1 lonely bird, it takes awhile for her to empty it...A friend who just passed away kept feeders all around his place up in the mountains and it was a sight to watch him try to take one down to refill it...Those birds would be flying all around him, waiting...I'm sure he could have had them eating out of his hand...Your dinner sounds like mine, plain and simple but oh so good!
And on that note, I'm out of here....Finished the vacuuming upstairs, downstairs is in order and now to get myself half decent....Today I'm stopping at the religious store to get a St. Joseph statue for Terry (finally), then onto visit with Jim, then take care of the cats/kittens at PetSmart and then have to stop at Aldi for milk and eggs on my way home.....Probably be ready to hit the sack when I finally get home but hopefully, I'll be able to keep awake to see a program on PBS about the Wild side of Ireland (that's where I'm going, lol)......
You all have a great day....
Happy eating................

Jana, your quilt sounds beautiful!
Chickie, how sweet to get to see those babies everyday
Irish, glad you have people to help you with the high places.
Becca, I'd love AC instead of a swamp cooler.
I have a massage scheduled for tonight at 5 so we might have grilled cheeses for supper

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 2nd
Late morning to everyone:
Got outside early and worked until I couldn't stand the heat and humidity anymore. Usually we have low humidity but today we have a cloud cover and it makes the humidity. I have been in the pool 3 times already this morning just to get wet. 92 degree water is really not very cooling.
Discovered a dove's nest in another section of the backyard, this time up in a tree. Don't think a cat can reach it, like it did for the mockingbirds last month. However, doves don't make nice nests and last year the babies fell out and died on the pool deck. I decided not to change my routine in the backyard, like I did for the mockingbirds.....whatever will be, will be. I have to keep ahead of the weeds.
Yesterday DH and I pulled out stuff from the closets in the garage, looking for stuff to add to his office yard sale. It was horrible working in a 104 degree garage, even with a fan. Then this morning we found out the local papers never did put our ad in the newspapers. Plus this weekend the church across the street from DH's practice is hosting a huge funeral and all parking in the vicinity will be used. So we are postponing the yard sale to next week.
My quilting retreat to the coast was canceled too. The hostess developed medical issues. This will give me more time to get those hanging sleeves on the back of the 4 quilts I am going to put into the show in September. DH brought home another chrome Baker's rack from work to put into the guest bedroom where I have my stash. It looks much nicer than stacked boxes. Easier to reach those bottom boxes too.
Well, have to go into the office with DH. Some late money came in and I have to post it to the outstanding accounts...probably will have to write off all the rest. You all have a wonderful day and prayers for those in need.
Dinner tonight will be an experiment, according to DH, stir fried pork Hussein, with rice and snow peas. We will see if we like the flavor.

Forgot, my quilt will be batiks, warm colors, reds, yellows, oranges, creams, with a touch of a green. May need a purple in there too. Looking at the fabric requirements, it calls for 20 different fabrics.
The shop where my BFF works has the most batiks in the area, so that is where I wilk start.
