SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, July 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:41 am

Good Morning!

Today is Bill's birthday. Lots of birthdays in July in our family - DGS, my BFF, my mom, 2 DH's, 2 friends, and Scottie will wind up the month when he turns 4 next week. So I'll be making a cake today, and tonite we'll go to supper at an Italian restaurant, one of Bill's favorite places on the water, with friends. They have an outdoor patio on the beach and I love listening to the gentle waves lapping during dinner.

And you know, Bill's handheld sledge hammer broke a couple of years ago. So I planned to get him one for his BD and wouldn't you know, after never mentioning it, two days ago, he suddenly he bought one!! I took it from him and gave it back this morning! With a bow on it. lol!

CAROLE with an e - sorry about your words flying the coop. Something was going on yesterday with QIAD. I couldn't get on at all for a while. But I out-chattered them and finally had my say!

TINA - how is everybody? Including YOU! Usually there isn't a whole lot of surgical pain after the first day or two with a laproscopic procedure. If it doesn't subside before long, Holly should call the doctor about it. I wonder what your sister did about your brother for dinner? How long does she plan to stay in Deming? Has she said? Please tell Mary Rose hi for me!

JANA - I hate when mistakes like that happen, but like with most art, there is a way to fix it or work it in! Once I quilted a quilt for our friends, Warren and Lois and when I took it off the frame I saw I'd put the backing wrong side out and there was the seam!! So my SIL embroidered a long skinny label for me and I hand stitched it on over the seam, from side to side. It looked 'artistic', they loved it, and I never fessed up my error. Not to them, anyway.

BECCA - you and your DH have a lot of blood work done! you must feel like a pincushion sometimes.

IRISH - I hope your sister's friend keeps the kitten. One time my sis lived above her landlord's apartment. No pets allowed. But she can't live without cats and soon had three and they all sat in the windowsill all day long. The landlord HAD to see them, but never said a word to her. So I hope your friend gets away with it. If not, I bet I know where that purrbaby will wind up . . . >^+^<

CHICKIE - how is Doyal's spider bite? A brown recluse is pretty worrisome as they are more deadly than black widows.

As I said, supper tonite will be at Mossimo's, an Italian restaurant, for Bill's bd. But I thawed hamburger to make a Mexican dish last night, but because we had a surprise lunch out with my brother, we weren't hungry come suppertime so now I need to cook the hamburger for tomorrow. I should know better than to thaw things - plans always change here.

Have you got a plan yet?

Good morning from warm, sunny, SW. Pa....Another purrrfect summer day and here I am without a pool, lol....Just thinking about our pool has brought back quite a few good memories....We put it in at a time when the kids were just old enough to really enjoy and it kept them home...Had it for 27 years and then filled it in. Our Neighbor said, she was going to start digging and bring it back to life and boy would she be surprised...When filling it, everything, probably including that kitchen sink when into the hole.....

Mary, please give Bill a big hug and special birthday wishes from me...Isn't it just like a man to spoil your surprise, lol....Your dinner out sounds heavenly, especially sitting by the water..One of our 1st trips to Florida, our friends took us to a place on the water and the waiter, knowing we were all Irish, came over and sang Danny Boy...One of the best memories....So far, I think the kitten will stay with those who found it, I'm hoping....And I'm also thinking, when I go to PetSmart on Friday to clean cages and play with fur babies, I just might take Jim with me...If not tomorrow, then the next time...I think it might do him good to play with a few of them....

Chickie, I too am worried about that spider bite....Hope Doyle is OK..And also hope you have time to sit down and put your feet up and have a few minutes to yourself.....

Becca, Blood work is a pain, thank goodness we only get it every 6 months or so...In fact, I'm taking Jim next week for his....My DDIL, Kevin's wife has to have her's done often and she usually comes home looking like she's been in a terrible accident...Her veins are very deep and takes quite a few jabs to find and on top of that she bruises very easy...If someone asks, she'll say, Kevin did it! Hope everything is good in your neck of the woods.....

Tina, also hoping you're able to sit down and put your feet up and like Chickie, take a few minute of "me time".....

Gotta cut this short...I'm going to scrub rugs upstairs and want to get them done before it gets too warm...Terry is stopping by on his way home from work...Not sure if this could be "stay and do something" or maybe we'll just catch up...Also, Kathy said, she'd be calling when she got home, lots to chat with her...
Last night, dinner with my sister's family was lots of fun...We went Chinese and sat until almost 8:00 and then they were going back to the house to visit some more...This old body came home, too many "late" nights and I can't take it.....

And once again, I'm not even thinking of what to have for dinner, I'm not even sure what I'll have for lunch, lol....

You all have a great day.........

Happy eating...............

Good morning!

Happy birthday, Bill! Sounds like a fun evening is planned. How neat to be sitting on the beach listening to the waves—special music! The birthday gift is funny—same thing happens here all the time.

DH’s hand is fine from the spider bite. Fortunately, he is not affected by insect or spider bites very often. Thank you all for your concern! I have been watching it and asking him how it is doing. He told me it was swollen, painful and a big spot was forming. He was so serious. Then I looked at it. He is always doing that to me, and I’m so gullible and believe him at his word. I wanted to wring his neck!

Life here is never boring—some days I crave boring and quiet. Yesterday I made two batches of jam—blackberry and jalapeño. I took care of all the dogs and made a trip to pick up Maggie at the vet yesterday afternoon. And, I finished #2 baby quilt—the one for my DD’s friend. DH’s niece and her DH are adopting a son, so there’s another baby boy quilt on my horizon. First… I want to quilt my DD’s kitty quilt for her 50th birthday next week. I need to make her a comfort quilt for her friend at work just diagnosed with stage 3 uterine cancer.

DH was working on the door handles of his ’50 Chevy pick up yesterday, and I heard him start it up, so I went out and we took a little ride around the area. I wanted to stop and let Ava out for her potty break, and when I came back the truck wouldn’t start. So, we walked the half mile home and got his truck and pull started it. Apparently it was just flooded.

We are having heat warnings again today, so it’s a good day to stay in and sew… after I take care of Ava.

Irish—I love the special serenade! Great memories!!! That would be a special outing for Jim to play with the kitties. I used to always take my dog with me to visit friends in nursing homes or care facilities. All the clients loved seeing them, and it took me almost an hour to get to who I was visiting because of all the pets and cuddles on the way. You know I always want you to eat extra Chinese for me! Sounds like you had a fun time!

Tina—I think in laparoscopic surgeries, they pump air into the abdomen. If it doesn’t all get pushed out the incisions, extra air rises and can make shoulders or other areas (abdomen) super sore until it’s absorbed into the tissues. Hope Holly feels better soon!

Jana—on the first baby quilt I did, I cut all four of the inner borders the same size. When I realized the error of my ways, I cut little cornerstones. We always seem to figure out how to conceal our errors. Mary’s solution with the backing was extremely creative. Must file that…

Tina—I’m hoping your sister will leave the area and give everyone peace and quiet! For a free meal, she’s pretty picky—no chiles, no kids! Hummmm…

Carole—I hate when my words disappear!

So glad to hear that Chriss is o.k.! Hope there isn’t a reversal of the fire. I’m so terrified of fire now, and to have to leave my home and not know… that’s worse than our situation. My heart goes out to everyone involved in the fires across the USA and Canada.

I'm hoping we get a call from Sears soon to go pick up my dishwasher. I've gotten used to having one, and I miss it.

We had ham sandwiches last evening with huge tomato slices. I guess you would call them HLTs. DH also had cheese on his. Tonight… I think I’ll go get some burger and thaw it. Taco salads would be yummy and not difficult.

Stay cool!

Bon appétit!

Okay....never found my words from yesterday. Darn, but it is a new day and all is well.

Irish, I am so glad that you are volunteering with the cat place. I am sure the days you work will give you comfort. When I have had a bad day a hug or two from my Luke makes it all better. Luke is still recovering from his foot surgery and really is not as happy as he normally is. Hopefully in another three days it will be completely healed . He hates having the child's sock on his paw, but that is the only way to protect the incision.

Chickie - my GS when he lived with the Jerk was bitten by the brown recluse spider. The jerk never watched it or took him to the doctor and it never healed and he has to have surgery on it. When we were taking care of the kids in SC Luke got bite also. When he came in I found the bump, called the vet and he waited after hours for us to bring Luke in and it was the brown recluse. Luke had to have surgery. Those bites can affect your kidneys, and other organs so the vet said . Glad I caught his right after he was bitten. So be careful, those are nasty spiders!!!!!

Weighed in at TOPS this a.m. And I turtles...stayed the same. I am so grateful for at. Blew it last night and had pizza, not one slice, but TWO!!!! So I am grateful I stayed the same.

Tonight we are having ravioli and sauce and then we are off to a Reba concert. Hope Luke leaves his paw alone while we are gone. Well we are off to meet with the vascular surgeon to see if the aneurisms are still small enough that we will only have to have them checked every 6 months. Also, DH is no win PT for his back. He is really having a bad month, it will be a couple of weeks before we know the results of the ultrasound on his kidneys. I would be lying if I said I am not worried.

Maybe I will even get lunch out after the doctor's visit.

Hugs,

Carole with an e

Late morning everyone:

Today is supposed to be 99. We shall see. It is usually hotter here out in the country. We have had a long streak of 100+, about the break records. I have to get outside early to beat the heat.

Seems like the mockingbirds are looking at the same bush again. Didn't they learn the last time two weeks ago when the cat got their babies? This time I won't be so careful not to disturb them, maybe that will discourage them. Besides, that whole area is so overgrown that I must trim it up now.

DH is still cleaning out the office, working on selling equipment and being generally grumpy about everything. He just wants it done and over so we can sell the building but it is what it is. I am glad I will be leaving on Sunday to go back to San Diego for a week. It will give me a break from having to be constantly patient and keeping my mouth shut! I will come home for just two days, then I will be going to the coast for a quilt retreat with 4 of my quilting friends for 4 days. This is my birthday present to myself. I will be nice and relaxed when I get back so I can continue to be patient.

We planted a Meyer lemon tree 2 years ago in the backyard. That poor thing is the victim of so many pests that it can't gain new leaves fast enough to grow bigger. First DH didn't give it enough water so I took over that, then it was a horde of grass hoppers, then cutter bees, then earwigs, now it is leaf miner destroying all the new growth. At least the tree is little so I have been squishing the leaf miner larvae by hand, leaf by leaf. It does have 10 lemons on it this year but we will see if it still has them in January for harvest.

Chriss is about 1 1/2 hours away from me and appears safe from the fire for now. But I can imagine how bad the air is for her. The smoke has made its way here and I wake up each morning coughing and have to come in by late morning because it gets hard to breathe.

MaryZ - Bill did the best thing he could for his scratched eye, sleep. If it was a superficial corneal scratch, they heal quickly. Just watch for redness, cloudiness of the cornea or increase in pain. Sometimes a branch will introduce bacteria that can cause problems, so just keep an eye (pun intended) on it.

All you other ladies....Blessings on the good things in your life and strength and patience to endure the trials and tribulations you have been given.

Dinner will be Chinese noodles with bok choy and cut up left over chicken, with watermelon to cleanse the palate. I tried to make a creme brulee but when I put it into the broiler to caramelize the sugar, it caught on fire and burned the top. Haven't got the hang of my new stove yet. So I just lifted the burnt crust off and it ate like pudding. DH laughed at me.

Good afternoon!

Another hot day in paradise! It rained, or should I say bucketed! Rained and flooded streets and yards by me. Sarah has a dumb neighbor - she was running the sprinklers after we got a half inch of rain. The water from her yard was waterfalling over the wall into Sarah's yard, which is a big no no here. The neighbors won't listen that it is illegal to drain your water into the neighbors. We were lucky that the water didn't get into Sarah's basement. Sarah and her DH will try again to talk to the neighbor, before they totally finish their backyard. The neighbors are regrading that backyard, which changed the water flow. Sarah is adding a french drain to capture water before it gets in as well.

Dinner last night was fajitas and tonight will be fresh corn on the cob with grilled chicken. Might add the fresh asparagus I got yesterday as well.

Ethan is begging to come, so they will be here in a short while.

Enjoy,
Jana

Hi everyone :)
Happy birthday to Bill! What a lovely sounding place for supper!
Chickie, you're spot on, exactly what the Dr told her.
Irish, enjoy your outing and those kitties.
Becca, I seriously hate getting labs done anymore.
Carole, I remember when Luke was bitten, scary.
Well have I got news for you all! Holly is getting married Monday! I'll wait while you all pick yourself up off the floor. ....
Mary Rose is here! We're having fun :)
I went to the Dr and he took sewing away for a couple weeks but I told him I had a deadline for my Sue's so he's letting me do those. I have tennis elbow basically.
I'm not sure about supper yet. ... I'm hoping for good weather do we can do burgers on the grill and a salad.
