SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, April 13th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Apr 13, 2017 2:48 am

Good Morning!

It's not actually raining at this particular moment in time. hooray! We'll see what it's doing by the end of my post. Sigh. Today we're off to Costco and the grocery store. I never have to go to Costco alone. Bill considers it entertainment and often 'lunch' with all the samples they give out. So while we're out, we swing by the regular grocery, as well, and so I have my own carry-out helper! and he's experienced, too. He was a box boy when he was a kid. I guess it takes him back . . .

SHIRLEY MAE, nice to have you join us! All that BBQ sounds like a great perk of Rod's trade! yum! Hope his new glasses work out for him.

TINA - Sounds like your anniversary week is going well! Did you wash your quilt or just put it on the line to air? I can't fit our king-size into our washer so it means a trip to Tacoma to a laundromat and add the $5 bridge toll to the cost. so it doesn't get washed too often! Let's work a deal - I'll send you some of my rain if you send me some of your warm. Deal?

BECCA - you were a white tornado yesterday with all those chores you got done! I did nothing. I didn't even write out my grocery lists. But I did take a 20-minute nap. :o) Have you heard yet when the next wave of twins are due to arrive?

CHICKIE - How's things at your house? I know you're having a big family Easter brunch. How many folks do you expect? And what's on the menu? Going to have an adult egg hunt?

IRISH - you know you worry us if you don't sit down at the table for several days in a row. Don't make me come back there! Wait! I take that back! I'd love to come back there! All I need is time and $$. Sigh. Hope things are OK . . .

JANA - how's the pantry coming along? when you restock like this, do you just go to Costco for most things? My nephew, who always has to be innovative with unusual projects, made a big storage area in the 'attic' of his house and he has enough paper products up there for 3 years. And he says it's extra insulation, too!

Dinner did morph a little bit last night. Same menu - chicken, potatoes, carrots - but I browned the chicken and then layered it all into the crockpot with a bit of celery for flavor. Added some broth and a splash of white wine and enjoyed the aroma all day long. It was so good! and there's enough left for another meal! So no cooking tonite, but I'll have a lot of veggie cleaning and camp meal prep work to do. And I'll probably bake a cake and put it in the freezer to take along. I like to put on my audio book and 'read' when I have a lot of work in the kitchen (or anywhere for that matter). Kind of puts me in the 'zone'.

What's the story at your house for tonite?

Good morning!

Let's see, no rain, Costco run, I must be at Mary's neck of the woods. We are heading off to finally start the restocking of my pantry. It is more depleted than i thought. So i have a list of what is needed. Costco first, then home to unload, then out to Winco, with a short stop at a LQS for a cream TOT. Then i will be in the pantry, moving stock around so that the oldest is in front and writing today's date on each thing that goes in the pantry, to make sure i rotate my stock. At least i can see my fabric! LOL

Dinner, since there is a run to Winco, i am sure that the fresh necessities of tortilla soup will land in the basket.

One last chore of the inventory before we leave, the freezer.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning! We were supposed to have rain today, but it’s being pushed to tomorrow… maybe.

I think Costco with all the samples is fun too! I know people who went to Sam’s Club just for the samples for their lunch. It’s nice to have a box boy who knows how to pack!!! I honestly prefer to bag my own groceries than have the checkers do it.

Shirley Mae—it was nice to see you! I need to have my DH learn to be a BBQ judge! He’d be thrilled with all that meat, and I’d be thrilled not to have to cook and would enjoy the “sides”. Dessert for him would be the icing on the cake—no pun intended!

I don’t have time to do an adult Easter egg hunt! It would be fun… I’m going to try to get to town today and get groceries, then I’ll be able to have lunch with Mom on Saturday and coffee with my friend and avoid shopping the day before the holiday. Menu is “the usual”… sausage links and patties, probably sausage balls, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, gravy, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, banana bread… The last three items are being brought in by DDILs and DGDIL. I have no idea how many to expect… guess we can always eat leftovers for brunch next week!

I’m ready to be home! We have gone to too many visitations for extended family and friend’s deaths. Yesterday was a long day… took a gun to a gunsmith over in Missouri, then stopped through Joplin area for dinner, and on to Baxter Springs for the visitation for friend’s wife. Made it home in time to feed the calves. I’d fed them just before we left in the afternoon. The hooligans were happy we made it back! I’d fooled them and left the doggie door cracked (not latched). I gave them treats and told them to stay there that we’d be back soon. Tinker Bell stayed outside because she was wet. I knew she’d try to get in and push the door open, and they would be waiting in the drive for us. I predicted correctly. Odie was waiting vigilantly and ran down the lane when we drove through the gates. Boomer was sitting by the parking spot, and Tinker Bell was jumping with joy—teeth smiling--around the lawn. Always a huge welcome!

Jana—please come organize my pantry! I did the rotation a few weeks ago and try to move things forward each time. I hid my newest jam from DH and am making him clean up all the 2-3 year stuff before he gets the new. Otherwise, he would just get his favorites and forget the rest. He loves his toast and jam or biscuits and jam! Oh, the freezers! I work on them, too. I need to use your suggestion of writing the dates with marker so I don’t strain my eyes seeing the small expiration date prints—great idea!

Sorry this is kind of short… I need to get brunch started. I was checking in yesterday when the power went off for the second day in a row. The power company has been doing some repairs in the area. It’s annoying and inconvenient, but not a problem other than cutting off my internet and phone service inside our metal house (we have an antenna outside and booster inside so we have reception).

Menu here—some leftovers… I know they are in there. At least I didn’t cook last night… Chinese buffet—I always think of you Irish!!!

Have a great day! Bon appétit!

Good morning :)
Mary, I still say you can send me some of your rain ;) I washed my quilt, it's 104" square, I have an extra large capacity front loader washer and it does a great job! I just wash it on a short permanent press with an extra rinse cycle and very little soap then hang it on the line that Frankie made me out of an old metal antique tractor wheel for the base and then metalfence posts welded on it, it's supposed to sspin but I think my bearing went out on it.
I started out our anniversary all wrong, ugh. ...a kidney stone woke me up at 4 this morning. .. I'm trying to ignore it but so far that's not working. I'm going to try to vacuum and see what that does.
Tonight is dinner out if I can make it :)

When i mark my cans - its usuaally on the top metal lid with the month i bought it and the year. If the lid isn't usable, i find some place on the side. I mark everything, even what goes in the freezer this way. I keep a couple of markers on the shelf in the pantry cold storage room.

Shortly i will have a excel spreadsheet print out with everything on it, so when I take out things, i mark what i have taken out, so i can just look at that sheet and plan my shopping trip. Much easier, if i would just get with the plan!

Hello everyone,sunny & 70s here,nice day.Got bathrooms cleaned,strawberry nut bread loaves made.Took walk,Made lunch .Now in sewing room.

Maryz The twins are due in Nov,not sure of date.DGS was talking of all the rainfall this morning.Think he has moss growing on him.lol The 6 yr old had pneumonia first now the little boy 4 has it.Would think that climate would be bad on that kind of infection & sinuses..

Jana Guess with your family you need to be organized.I too write the dates of purchase on lots of items I buy.Like to know how long it takes to use it.But for groceries it's important.I have found outdated items on shelves before.

Shirley Mae My DH would be a great judge as he loves meat & especially BBQ.Sure would help out on Bill. But bad I guess on waistline.lol

Chickie I don't like going to visitation either.Guess None does but it seems necessary.
Your Brunch sounds Good.

Irish Sure hope alls well at your place.Hoping you're getting ready for Easter & Terrys move. And working on your quilt.Thinking of you.

Just took the neighbor her bread. It was warm & she said she was going to have some right away.We have black eyed peas, turkey sausage. And the strawberry bread for after,
Becca

Good afternoon from a slightly overcast, could be warmer, SW. Pa....

I'm here and really have no excuse as to have been missing....I've been a little moody lately so we'll blame it on that, lol....But, after having a talk with myself, I think we're all better....

Mary, I love, love going to Costco and mostly for the samples...One of the lunch gals has a membership and the 4 of us would use her card...Kind of funny, when we go, we have to take 2 cars because we all buy the toilet paper......I had heard our KMart was closing and Costco was moving in (closer to me) but so far nothing has happened....Oh boy, would I love for you to follow through on your threat....

Becca, You really are "going to town" with the chores...It's hard to keep up with you....And you know, November will come around before we know it...So exciting1

Chickie, you also had a full day...That's special to have such a big welcoming committee when you get home...Once in awhile, Baby Girl will be sitting at the top of the cellar steps but most of the she'll be sleeping and then give you the look "oh were you gone?"...Some security system we have, right? lol.....

Jana, any more, I don't have to worry about keeping a lot on hand but when the kids were all home, that was a different story..And I never had to worry about things going out of date, lol...I really do miss those days.....

Well, my baby is home! He officially starts his new job on Monday...He'll be staying with a friend until he can find a house or an apartment and the boys are staying in N.Caroliina for now...Anyone want to buy a gorgeous 4 bedroom/3 bath home on a wooded lot in N.C. let me know, lol....As much as I'd like to have had Terry stay here, we both thought better of it..But, he will be here a lot, thank goodness...And I made sure he got a key, lol....He even went to the PO and introduced himself and had his name added to our box....

Haven't really accomplished too much today, had good intentions but that kind of fell through...Did a little laundry and that was about it...I'm hearing from the kids and we're going to be having a house full on Sunday so I'm going to have to get myself organized...But, it will be so nice to have them all in one place at the same time...This hasn't happened since the wedding in October...

As for our dinner, it's going to be soup and sandwiches...I have left over veggie/beef soup and probably grilled cheese...AND I found some cookies in the freezer, much to Jim's delight....

You all have a good afternoon and evening....

Happy eating...............
